U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

Ivar Larson
STROMSBURG -- Ivar Larson, 83, of Stromsburg died Friday, March 5, 1999, at York General Hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Stromsburg Cemetery.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Evangelical Covenant Church in Stromsburg.

Winifred Larson
CENTRAL CITY -- Winifred Marie Larson, 81, of Central City died Friday, March 5, 1999, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Stromsburg Cemetery. The Rev. Gilbert Larsen will officiate.
Miss Larson was born Feb. 20, 1918, to Claus and Anna (Olsen) Larson at Wolbach. She moved with her parents at an early age to a farm north of Meadow Grove. She attended District No. 77 school and Meadow Grove High School.
She and her parents moved to Tilden in 1952. She then lived in California for a number of years, working in a sewing factory and later taking care of elderly women.
She returned to Nebraska in 1978 and lived with her parents. She took care of elderly women in the Battle Creek and Grand Island area. She was a resident of Integrated Health Services in Central City at the time of her death.
Survivors include two brothers, Raymond of Sunnyside, Wash., and Don of Central City and one sister, Esther Wieting of Downey, Calif.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Rudolf, Allan, John and infant Arnold and one infant sister, Anna.

Marvin McAfee
FULLERTON -- Marvin McAfee, 80, of Fullerton died Saturday, March 6, 1999, at Litzenberg Long Term Care in Central City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Jim Howland will officiate. Burial will be in Fullerton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the church.
Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Shotkoski
ST. EDWARD -- Thomas A. Shotkoski, 74, of St. Edward died Friday, March 5, 1999, at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward. The Rev. Edward Gill will officiate.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post No. 2 226 of St. Edward.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward with a wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 8:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Francis Standage
RAVENNA -- Francis D. Standage, 83, of Ravenna died Friday, March 5, 1999, at Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Ravenna with the Rev. Mark Cadenbach officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery in Ravenna.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church.
Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Ravenna Senior Citizens Center.
Mr. Standage was born on July 27, 1915, at Poole to Bert and Margaret (Lohring) Standage. He was educated in Poole.
He married Mildred Franklin on June 10, 1936. They lived on a farm a quarter mile north of Poole and then moved to a farm near Hazard. They operated the general store and post office in Sweetwater for seven years.
They lived in Mason City for 25 years, where he was a rural mail carrier. He retired and moved to Ravenna in 1988.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rural Mail Carriers Association and Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include one daughter, Loine Standage of Ravenna.
He was preceded in death by his wife, five brothers and two sisters.

Noble Bailey
Noble C. Bailey, 66, of 213 N. Darr died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, at his home.
Services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home.

James White
James White, 78, of Grand Island died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Jim Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City cemetery with military rites by the Burwell American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. White was born on Oct. 31, 1919, in Garfield County to George and Nora (Conner) White. The family moved in 1924 to Merrick County, where he was educated. The family moved back to Garfield County in 1936. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945.
He married Mary Buss on Jan. 16, 1945, at Norfolk. They farmed in Wheeler County for 41 years. She died on Aug. 5, 1981. He moved to Burwell in December 1986 and to Grand Island in June 1995.
He was a member of the Burwell VFW and the Coca-Cola bowling team at Westside Lanes in Grand Island. He enjoyed playing cards.
Survivors include two sons, Richard and James Jr., both of Grand Island; a daughter, Colleen Hopkins of Kearney; six grandchildren; five step grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 12 step great-grandchildren; one brother, Elvis White of Burwell; and three sisters, Bona Klink of El Paso, Texas, Dolly Foulk of Eugene, Ore., and Wilma Mason of Sacramento, Calif.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred and Aaron.

Jessie Marie Blake
KEARNEY -- Jessie Marie Blake, infant daughter of Anthony and Antonetta (Douglas) Blake of Kearney, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, at Omaha.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Glea Johnson
POLK -- Glea M. Johnson, 75, of Polk died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Solt Funeral Home in Polk is in charge of arrangements.

Jerome “Bud” G. Veik
d. October 19, 2011
Services for Jerome “Bud” Veik, 85, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond with burial at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Stonacek Memorial Chapel, Osmond. He died October 19th at Plainview Area Health System.
Jerome George Veik was born on May 18, 1926, in Humphrey to John and Johanna (Stokes) Veik. He graduated from McLean High School in 1944 before serving in the Army’s 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper. Bud farmed in the Randolph area for 2 years and later drove a transport truck part time for Dawson Oil of Osmond. He married Violet Thomsen on March 8, 1949 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond. After marriage he was an independent truck hauler and hauled for Thomsen Sand and Gravel. In the early 1970’s he started Plainview Sand and Gravel with Violets brother Earl Thomsen. He was involved in the sand and gravel business for 65 years. Bud was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond, a member of the Osmond Community Club, he helped with many of the Osmond town celebrations, American Legion of Osmond, and Pierce County Fair.
Bud enjoyed talking to people, telling stories, and was the historian of Osmond. One of his favorite pass times was having coffee with his buddies at the Osmond Mini Mart and swapping stories. He and Violet were regulars in McLean for Wednesday morning coffee and then to Randolph for lunch at the Senior Center. His love for his family was boundless, and he was loved and respected by all that knew him.
He is survived by his wife Violet, married 62 years, of Osmond; five daughters: Carolyn and husband Gary Christensen of Lincoln, Marilynn and husband John Gunter of Marshall, Minn., Jacalyn and husband Dan Pospisil of Pierce, Shari Gorman of Dawsonville, Georgia, Shelly and husband Tom Hinds of South Sioux City, Nebr. 11 grand children, 10 great grandchildren, two sisters: Jean Backhaus of McLean, Elaine and husband Bob Joranko of Riverside, Cali., five brothers: Ray and wife Arlene Veik of McLean, Nebr., Jim and wife Ellen Veik of Absorakee, Mont., Lester Veik of Riverside, Cali., Larry and wife Linda Veik of Post Falls, Ida., Lloyd and wife Donna Veik of Riverside, Cali.
The organist will be Mrs. Clarice Gansebom with congregational hymns “Lift High The Cross”, “For All The Saints”, “My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less”.
Casket bearers are Greg Christensen, Shawn Gunter, Justin Cochran, T.J. Hinds, Nathan Hinds, Pete Shoemaker, Rick Sebek, Mike Loween, Terry

Violetta K. Reineke
d. March 15, 2013
RANDOLPH — Services for Violetta K. Reineke, 96, of Randolph will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Frances Catholic Church with burial in the parish cemetery. The Rev. Michael Swanton will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church with a Christian Mothers rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a rosary at 7:30 p.m.
Arrangements are by Stonacek Memorial Chapel in Osmond.
She died Friday, March 15, 2013, at Osmond General Hospital.
She was born May 5, 1916, at Randolph to Benjamin and Anna (Schrad) Kavelage. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, Osmond.
She married Frank A. Reineke Jan. 21, 1936, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Osmond. After marriage, they farmed in the McLean area. They retired and moved to Randolph in 1975.
She was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Randolph, and Christian Mothers.
Survivors include eight children, Margaret and husband Dale Lewandowski of Loup City, Ervin and wife Dinah Reineke, Randolph, Kenneth and wife Nancy Reineke, Randolph, Melvin and wife Diane Reineke of Hastings, Marilyn and husband Don vonRentzell of Waverly, Gerald and wife Diane Reineke, Hastings, Gary and wife Mary Reineke, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Patrick Reineke of Bow Valley; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and son-in-law Neil Bloomquist of McLean; and sister Anabell and husband Andrew Weeder of Osmond.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank Reineke, daughter Marcella “Sally” Bloomquist, infant son Francis Reineke and a great-grandson, Tucker vonRentzell, and also her brothers, Clarence Kavelage, Louis Kavelage, Lawrence Kavelage and Eugene Kavelage
Music will be by guitarist/cantor Mr. George Bradley with “Amazing Grace, ” “Shepherd Me O God, ” “Isaiah 49, ” “Be Not Afraid.” “On Eagles Wings.”
Casket bearers will be Doug Burbach, Gaylon Burbach, Cliff Burbach, Dennis Burbach, Keith Burbach and Larry Kessler.
