Charlotte Killion
AURORA -- Charlotte Killion, 102, of Aurora, formerly of the Murphy area, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, in Memorial Community Care at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Phillips United Methodist Church. The Rev. Richard L. Brian will officiate. Burial will be in the Phillips Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mrs. Killion was born on Dec. 17, 1895, on a farm one mile south of Murphy to Theodore and Alice (Scott) Roberts. She grew up and attended rural school near Murphy and graduated from Aurora High School in 1915. She received her teaching certificate from Kearney State College and taught in rural schools around Aurora.
She married
Robert D. Killion on April 20, 1919, at her parents' home south of Murphy. They farmed south of Murphy for the rest of their lives. Mr. Killion died on Sept. 12, 1986.
Mrs. Killion entered Memorial Community Care at Memorial Hospital in Aurora on Aug. 6, 1993.
She was a member of the Phillips United Methodist Church and Phillips Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 204.
Survivors include a son, James Killion of Omaha; a daughter, Verla (Mrs. Bob) Ketchum of Aurora; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and one sister.
Virginia Kokes
NORTH LOUP -- Virginia Rose Kokes, 71, of North Loup died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Ord Evangelical Free Church. The Revs. Paul Day and M.S. Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Pacific Garden Mission.
Mrs. Kokes was born on March 13, 1926, in Ord to Emory and Minnie (Zikmund) Thomsen. She attended school in Ord, graduated from Ord High School in 1944 and then worked for her father.
She married
Robert Kokes on Aug. 30, 1951, at Ord. Two weeks later, Mr. Kokes enlisted in the military, and the couple lived in Texas for a year. While Mr. Kokes was stationed overseas, Mrs. Kokes lived in Ord with her family. When he returned from the service, they lived on a farm along the North Loup River in Valley County.
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She enjoyed raising chickens, gardening and collecting recipes.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Rob of North Loup; two daughters, Susan (Mrs. Curtis) Schauer of North Loup and Peggy Kokes Alloway of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; four sisters, Eileen H'ppner of Jonesboro, Ark., and Ruth Smith, Jeanne Ackles and Carolyn Hayek, all of Ord; and two brothers, Larry Thomsen of Ord and Dale Thomsen of Burwell.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister.
Donald Miller
GIBBON -- Donald I. Miller, 59, of Gibbon died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Faith United Church in Gibbon. The Rev. Larry Booze will officiate. Burial will be in the Gibbon Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon.
Memorials are suggested to the Gibbon Emergency Unit, International Missions or Glad Tidings Assembly Church of Gibbon.
Mr. Miller was born on July 3, 1938, to James Ivan and Ethel J. (Brown) Miller. He grew up on a farm in the Gibbon area, graduated from Gibbon High School in 1956 and attended college.
He married
Dorothy May in June 1963 in Riverdale. They lived on a farm west of Gibbon. He farmed in the Gibbon area for more than 21 years until ill health forced him to retire in 1993. He worked in security at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney from 1985 to 1988 and was active with the Air Care flights.
He worked for the University of Nebraska at Kearney as a custodian. He spent several winters in Haiti building homes for the poor and working in medical clinics.
He was active in Glad Tidings Assembly Church of Gibbon.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Joshua of Bennet; three daughters, Angela Gillming of Kearney, Heather Brown of Forest City, Iowa, and Regan Schuster of Gibbon; five grandchildren; his mother, of Kearney; and three sisters, Dorothy Rayburn and Marilyn Sheldon, both of Kearney, and Janet Keller of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Alvin Slocum
LITCHFIELD -- Alvin E. Slocum, 82, of Litchfield died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Litchfield. The Rev. Heidi Revelo will officiate. Burial will be in the Litchfield Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church or Litchfield Emergency Unit.
Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Slocum was born on May 29, 1915, in Valley County near Arcadia to George and Etta May (Sinclair) Slocum. He grew up and attended schools in the Arcadia and Litchfield areas.
He moved in 1939 to Scottsbluff, where he worked for Cook Packing Co. He was inducted into the Army in 1942 at Cheyenne, Wyo. He served in the 339th Replacement Company for 22 months in northern France, received the Good Conduct Medal and was discharged in 1946 at Leavenworth, Kan.
He married
Mabel A. Linden on March 1, 1947, at Grand Island. The couple lived in Litchfield, where they owned and managed a grocery store and bar. He later worked in construction and in packing plants in Ansley and Broken Bow. He worked at Swift in Grand Island for 14 years. He retired in 1979.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Eagles and American Legion.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Roy of Litchfield; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Eugene of Litchfield and Clarence of Lincoln.
His wife died in 1989. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice; two sisters, Vida Brown and an infant sister; and three brothers, Ralph, Cecil and Jane.
Frances Sauvage
DENVER -- Frances Sauvage, 91, of Denver, formerly of Boelus, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, in Denver.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Rosalie Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Soulville cemetery near Boelus.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Sauvage was born on Nov. 22, 1906, in Boelus to Antone and Annie (Schmaljohn) Rask. She grew up in the Boelus area and attended schools there. She graduated from Kearney State College and then taught at elementary schools in Indianola and several other communities in that area.
She married
Walter Sauvage. The couple lived in Oberlin, Kan. She lived in Denver for 25 years.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Indianola.
Survivors include one son, Raymond Kurtz of Denver; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; and a sister, DaVonna Wichman of Fairbury.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Solomon and Marguerite Brechner; and two brothers, Leslie and Antone Rask Jr.
'Jean' Hornby
Marilyn "Jean" Hornby, 66, of 2423 Del Monte Ave. died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
'Andy' Peterson
SARGENT -- Andrew "Andy" Peterson, 89, of Sargent died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Marvin Peterson will officiate. Burial will be in Lone Tree cemetery in Weissert.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
