ALBION -- Naida Watson, 68, of Albion died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services are pending with Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Carl Abegglen
LEWELLEN -- Carl Abegglen, 87, of Lewellen died March 3, 1999, at Denver.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Fort McPherson in Maxwell. Mr. Abegglen was cremated.
All Veterans Burial and Cremation in Denver is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Abegglen was born on March 21, 1911, at Columbus.
He married
Lorraine Losene on Sept. 30, 1940, at Sioux City, Iowa. A U.S. Army veteran, he served with Patton in Europe during World War II and landed on Omaha Beach. He worked for Railway Express Agency in Grand Island. He retired in 1971. Mrs. Abegglen died in 1983.
Survivors include a son, Craig Abegglen of North Platte; a daughter, Carol McAuliffe of Bennett, Colo.; four grandchildren; and a sister, Florence "Dee" Belnap of Chula Vista, Calif.
Dr. Alexander Filip
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Dr. Alexander J. Filip, 83, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Omaha, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Sterling House of Leawood, Kan.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Visitation Church in Kansas City.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Bishop John J. Sullivan's Food Pantry.
D.W. Newcomer's Sons Stine and McClure Chapel in Kansas City is in charge of arrangements.
William Adamson
FULLERTON -- William Adamson of Fullerton died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Services are pending with Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton.
'Tom' Caffrey
GREELEY -- Walter "Tom" Caffrey, 73, of Greeley, formerly of Columbus, died Monday, March, 1, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church in Columbus. The Rev. Anthony Espinosa will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure's cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. vigil, Thursday at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Caffrey was born on June 30, 1925, at Norfolk to Bernard and Elizabeth (B'dinger) Caffrey. He was raised in Columbus and graduated from St. Bonaventure's Catholic School in 1943.
He married
Elvira Schr'der on June 18, 1946, at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church. He worked for Consumer Public Power District and for the Union Pacific Railroad as a switchman/brakeman for 20 years. He was a real estate broker and appraiser and was part owner of Reece Wooden Sole Shoe Factory. He went to work at Gerhold Co. until his retirement.
He enjoyed travel, trains and reading.
He was a member of St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Elks Club, Izaak Walton League and the Nebraska Realtors Association.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Donald B. Caffrey of Wayne; a daughter, Patricia (Mrs. William) McQuillan of Greeley; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Bernard Caffrey of Fort Collins, Colo., and John Caffrey of Des Moines, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by two sons, James Caffrey and Thomas Caffrey.
Alta Hebb
BROKEN BOW -- Alta Katherine (Behrens) Hebb, 92, of Broken Bow died Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Fred R'dger will officiate. Burial will be in the Seward Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Memorials are suggested to the Prairie Pioneer Center in Broken Bow.
Mrs. Hebb was born on Oct. 26, 1906, in Seward County to Carl V. and Carolyn (Gembler) Imig. She graduated from Seward High School in 1924.
She married
Roy W. Behrens on March 25, 1925, at Seward. They lived in Lincoln. She worked at the W.T. Grant Store in Lincoln for 42 years, retiring in 1971. Mr. Behrens died in 1972.
She married
Ernest Hyslop on May 15, 1975, in Broken Bow. They lived in Broken Bow. He died in 1978.
She married
Robert Hebb on Oct. 8, 1980, at Loup City, and they lived in Broken Bow. He died on May 6, 1989. She continued to live in Broken Bow.
She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Church in Seward and later transferred to the First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rebekahs, Garden Club, Grange and Libros Amamus.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Marlea (Mrs. Ted) Keys of Elsmere; a stepson, Lyle Hebb of Bailey, Colo.; many step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
In addition to her three husbands, she also was preceded in death by one brother, Lester Woods.
Elmer Lukesh
ORD -- Elmer A. Lukesh, 80, of Ord died Monday, March 1, 1999, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. The Revs. Jim Warner and Stanley Gorak will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Catholic School.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lukesh was born on March 20, 1918, in Geranium Township in Valley County west of Ord to Joseph and Mary (Ptacnik) Lukesh. He attended District 29 School and high school at Woodman Hall.
He married
Lorraine Duda on June 12, 1945, at Ord. He lived all his life in Valley County. He farmed until 1953. He worked at the Ord Quiz for 38 years as a composition editor until 1991. On Saturdays, Mr. Lukesh worked as a clerk at the Ord Sale Barn from 1953 until it closed in the late 1970s. Since 1991, he had worked at the Ord Pizza Hut.
He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Western Fraternal Life Association 112 for 57 years and Ord Elks Lodge 2371.
Survivors include his wife; one son, James Lukesh of Lincoln; three daughters, Mary (Mrs. Emil) Schmidt-Kment of St. Paul, Kathleen Lukesh of Lincoln and Karen (Mrs. Darien) Cox of Grand Island; eight grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, William, Albert, Joseph, Frank, John and one infant brother; and one sister, Emma Lukesh.
Emma Novak
ORD -- Emma Novak, 89, of Ord died Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Keith Menter will officiate.
Burial will be in the Ord Bohemian Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Western Fraternal Life Association 112 or to the Senior Classics of Valley County.
Mrs. Novak was born on Aug. 25, 1909, three miles west of Elba to Anton and Bessie (Tuma) Svoboda. At age 9, she moved with her parents two miles north of Ord and attended the Melia School. They then moved west of Ord, and she attended the Brace School.
She married
Frank Novak on March 19, 1929, at Broken Bow. The couple lived on the Novak farm west of Ord. The couple moved into Ord in 1969. Mr. Novak died on Sept. 7, 1996.
While on the farm, Mrs. Novak enjoyed raising chickens and gardening. While living in town, she did craft work, grew flowers and spent time at the senior center. She had been a charter member of the Neighborly Sisters Club since 1945. She was a member of Western Fraternal Life Association 112 for 66 years and served as secretary for 22 years.
Survivors include one son, Eugene of Ord; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, James Sr. of Burwell, Raymond of Portland, Ore., and Eldon of Cotesfield; and two sisters, Bessie Toogood of Goleta, Calif., and Viola Christopherson of Tacoma, Wash.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, LaVerne; and four brothers, Charley, Joe, Wayne and Frank.
