Floyd Payton
Floyd F. Payton, 71, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Del Roper will officiate. Mr. Payton was cremated.
There will be no visitation. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Hospice or the donor's choice.
Ruth Clausen
RAVENNA -- Ruth Clausen, 92, of Ravenna died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Ravenna. The Rev. Mark Cadenbach will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery in Ravenna.
Visitation will be prior to service time Friday at the church.
Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Clausen was born on March 6, 1906, in Turlock, Calif., to George and Hattie (Sypher) Green. She was educated in Ravenna and graduated from Ravenna High School in 1927.
She married
Holger Clausen on Aug. 11, 1931, at Phillipsburg, Kan. The couple farmed near Litchfield and later near Ravenna. They moved to Ravenna in 1966. She moved to an apartment in Ravenna in 1987.
She was a member of the Methodist Church for 50 years, Rebekah Lodge for 48 years, American Legion Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Garden Club. He worked as an aide at the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Lee Chapman and Robert Green; and two sisters, Gladys Strong and Maude Tillson.
Lydia Nelson
BROKEN BOW -- Lydia A. Nelson, 94, of Broken Bow died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Robert L. H'ft will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Nelson was born on Oct. 5, 1904, at Dodge to William and Emma (Flamme) Cegavske.
She married
Marius Nelson on Oct. 3, 1921. They farmed in the Mason City area and retired in 1962. They lived in Broken Bow after retirement. Mr. Nelson died in 1981.
Mrs. Nelson was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Broken Bow and the Mason City American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include one son, Norman Nelson of Lincoln; one daughter, Lois (Mrs. Dean) Willoughby of Mason City; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter and one brother, William.
Rachel Oliver
ORD -- Rachel Oliver, 103, of Ord died Jan. 20, 1999, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Ord First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. David Stipp will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ord Memorial Chapel. There will be no viewing at the church prior to services on Saturday.
Memorials are suggested to the nursing home, church or Corner Cottage.
Mrs. Oliver was born on Sept. 22, 1895, on a farm northeast of Ord to Richard and Marilla (Fredrick) Flynn. She grew up in Valley County, was educated at Ord and also attended college in Grand Island.
She married
Carl Jay Oliver on Sept. 13, 1919, at Grand Island. She taught school at Olean. The couple farmed near North Loup and two miles south of Olean until 1943, when they moved to the Oliver family farmstead at Olean.
The couple moved to Ord in the late 1960s. Mr. Oliver died on Aug. 5, 1982. Mrs. Oliver had lived at the Valley County Nursing Home for 10 months, moving from Corner Cottage.
She enjoyed playing pinochle.
Survivors include one daughter, Greta Stallings of Sacramento, Calif.; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
Eldon Sich
ORD -- Eldon Sich, 84, of Ord died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Ord. The Rev. David Stipp will officiate. Additional services will be conducted by the Ord Oddfellows Lodge.
A private family burial will be prior to services at the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Sunday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Robert Wykoff
PHILLIPS -- Robert L. Wykoff, 59, of Phillips died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Eric Ford will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Wykoff was born on Dec. 28, 1939, at Grand Island to Robert W. and Meta (Beberniss) Wykoff. He grew up and received most of his education in Grand Island.
He entered the U.S. Army in 1957 and served in Germany. After his discharge, he worked for IBM at Binghamton, N.Y. He later moved to Salt Lake City, where he continued to work for IBM. He moved to California in 1965 and worked for Republic Van Lines. He later worked for the convention center in Los Angeles. He returned to Grand Island in 1985 and worked locally for American Van Lines.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the American Federation of Labor. He loved playing golf.
Survivors include his mother, Meta Steele of Grand Island; two sons, Robert Wykoff of Omaha and Michael Wykoff; and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a half brother, Johnny Wykoff.
