Floyd Gorecki
COLUMBUS -- Floyd Gorecki, 91, of Columbus, formerly of Farwell, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at Morys Haven in Columbus.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church in Columbus. The Rev. Dan Keller will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure's cemetery at Columbus.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. vigil, Friday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation will continue from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Gorecki was born on April 7, 1907, at Farwell to Joseph and Cecelia (Zocholl) Gorecki. He was educated in Farwell.
He married
Marcella Kezeor on Jan. 28, 1929, at St. Anthony's Church in Farwell. He farmed in the Farwell area. He moved in 1950 to Genoa, where he operated Gambles Hardware Store; in 1957 to Lincoln, where he drove a shuttle service; and in 1958 to Columbus, where he drove a taxi and did carpentry before retiring.
He was a member of St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church and had served on the Farwell school board.
Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn (Mrs. Emil) Bosak of Genoa and Joan (Mrs. Dan) Boss of Columbus; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and 13 brothers and sisters.
Frances Rupprecht
WAVERLY -- Frances "Lorraine" Rupprecht, 85, of Waverly, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at Community Care of Waverly.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Ralph Steffensmeier will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. wake service, Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will resume from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Ruby Hartman
CANON CITY, Colo. -- Ruby V. Hartman, 83, of Canon City, Colo., formerly of Kearney, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney. The Rev. North Sherrill Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Kearney Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney. Further visitation will be Friday afternoon until service time at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Zion Lutheran Church Ladies Aid.
Ida Knudsen
Ida K. Knudsen, 97, of Grand Island died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Faith United Methodist Church. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Monday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the donor's choice.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one son, Leslie Knudsen of Grand Island; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Leon; four brothers and one sister.
Monica Morrow
Monica E. Morrow, 80, of Grand Island died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at Lakeview Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Tim Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Ord cemetery in Ord.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, with the family receiving friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Nebraska Children's Home or donor's choice.
Steve 'Dub' Daily
ANSELMO -- Steve "Dub" Daily, 81, of Anselmo died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at his home in Anselmo.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. The Rev. Doug Jones will officiate. Burial will be in New Helena cemetery near Anselmo.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to New Helena Cemetery.
Mr. Daily was born Aug. 24, 1916, to Steve and Gertie (Farley) Daily at Milburn. He attended school in Milburn and graduated from Milburn High School. He then began farming with his parents.
He married
Irene Cooley on July 12, 1940. They later divorced. He continued to farm near Milburn for 30 years. At the time of his death, he was living in Victoria Manor in Anselmo.
He was a member of United Methodist Church in Anselmo and Broken Bow Elks Lodge 1688.
Survivors include four sons, Dan of North Platte, Walt of Laughlin, Nev., Charles of Vacaville, Calif. and Joe of Pocatello, Idaho; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two brothers, Ted of Hastings and Alvin of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jerry; five brothers and one sister.
Jewell Hanson
STROMSBURG -- Jewell A. Hanson, 68, of Stromsburg died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stromsburg. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday. Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg is in charge of arrangements.
Martha Jarecke
ST. PAUL -- Martha E. Jarecke, 90, of St. Paul died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Mark A. Pivarunas will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. rosary at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Howard County Community Hospital or to the family's choice.
Mrs. Jarecke was born May 20, 1907, in Chicago to Jacob and Hattie (Jarvis) Geck. As a small child, she moved with her family to Genoa, later moving to St. Edward and Fullerton. She attended numerous rural schools and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1925.
She married
Edward R. Jarecke on Aug. 21, 1928, at Fullerton. The couple lived on a farm north of Palmer until 1938, when they moved to St. Paul. The couple owned and operated Jarecke Implement. In 1946, they added the Chrysler and Plymouth car dealership to the business. They retired in 1977 and continued to live in St. Paul.
She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and flowers.
She is a member of Mary Immaculate Catholic Church of Omaha and former member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of St. Paul and its altar society.
Survivors include her husband; five sons, Jack of Grand Island, Jerry of Valparaiso, Tom of St. Paul, Bob of Alexandria, Va. and David of Lincoln; one daughter, Emily Jean (Mrs. Tom) Reidy of Kearney; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one brother, Frank Geck of Fremont.
She was preceded in death by three grandchildren; four brothers, Eddie, Emil, Joe and Ted Geck and one sister, Helen Walker.
Mildred Long
ALBION -- Mildred Long, 82, of Albion, formerly of Primrose, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Primrose. The Rev. Mary Avidano will officiate. Burial will be in Dublin cemetery at Primrose.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service.
