Augusta Tyler
CHEYENNE, Wyo. -- Augusta L. Tyler, 95, of Cheyenne, Wyo., formerly of Greeley and Merrick County, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at Cheyenne, Wyo.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Cheyenne, Wyo. The Revs. Janet Forbes and Michael Ingersoll will officiate.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Grand Island City Cemetery. The Rev. Eric Ford will officiate.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Mrs. Tyler was born Jan. 5, 1903, to Gustav and Inez (Lee) Wagner on a farm in Greeley County near Wolbach. She grew up and began her education in a rural school in Greeley County.
In 1909, the family lived on the north edge of Aurora. In 191,1 the family moved to the farm settled by her grandparents in Merrick County.
She attended rural school District No. 47 South, graduating from the eighth grade in 1918. She attended Chapman High School for 2 1/2 years, then transferred to Central City High School for 1 1/2 years to secure normal training.
She graduated from the 12th grade in June 1922. The next 12 years she taught in rural schools in Merrick County. She also attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln for two summers to renew her teacher's certificate. She also taught Sunday school in Nebraska for 11 years.
She married
George E. Tyler on June 30, 1935, at Grand Island. They lived in Cheyenne, Wyo., where she taught in the third grade in the primary department for 30 years and served as superintendent for 12 of those years. Mr. Tyler died Nov. 25, 1995.
She was a member of the First Methodist Church and the United Church Women Prayer Circle. Other clubs include the Union Pacific Old Timers and Auxiliary, Happy Has Beens, Mallet Club, Queen Esther Circle and the Cheyenne Women's Club. She had served as president of each club.
She served four years as state president of the Wyoming District of the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Rocky Mountain Conference. She was awarded a life membership by the Rocky Mountain Conference of the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Woman's Division of Christian Service of the Methodist Church.
The Wyoming Extension Homemakers Council awarded her a certificate for 30 years of service in the Harmony Extension Club in Laramie County. She was state treasurer of United Churchwomen for four years and served as state president for four years. Mrs. Tyler was Worthy Matron of Oak Leaf Chapter No. 6, Order of Eastern Star. She was also very active in the Friendly Forum Group since its organization.
Survivors include three sisters, Dorothy Wells of Grand Island, Hazel Ruge of Omaha and Emma Rembolt of Chapman.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters and a brother.
John Buettner
John L. Buettner, 42, of 904 N. Wheeler, died this afternoon at St. Francis of apparent natural causes. Funeral services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Theodore Kane
Theodore L. Kane Jr., 90, of Grand Island died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at the St. Francis Medical Center of Grand Island.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before service time.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Mr. Kane was born Feb. 29, 1908, to Theodore L. and Susan (Connor) Kane at Grand Island. He was raised in Grand Island and received his education at St. Mary's School. He entered the U.S. Army on Oct. 19, 1942, and served until Feb. 2, 1945.
He married
Lillie M. Van Bibber in Kearney. They lived in Grand Island. Mr. Kane held various jobs in Grand Island working as a laborer. Mrs. Kane died on July 26, 1996.
Survivors include a son, Mark Kane of Omaha; three daughters, Susan Kensinger of Grand Island, Patricia Stobbe of Kansas City, Mo., and Shirley Stillman of Albuquerque, N.M.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandsons.
Lucille Lambert
PALMER -- Lucille Lambert, 80, of Palmer died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at St. Francis Skilled Nursing Unit in Grand Island following a short illness.
Services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Palmer United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken West officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill cemetery in Palmer. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Palmer's Funeral Home in Palmer.
Rachel Oliver
ORD -- Rachel Oliver, 103, of Ord died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Ord. The Rev. David Stipp will officiate. Burial will be in Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to Valley County Nursing Home, First Presbyterian Church or Corner Cottage.
Dan Ruark
PHILLIPS -- Danny "Dan" R. Ruark, 58, of Phillips died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center. Services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home. A complete obituary will appear later.
Delmont Ruhter
KEARNEY -- Delmont G. Ruhter, 80, of Kearney, formerly of Prosser, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Christ Lutheran Church near Juniata. The Rev. Steven Heinsen will officiate. Burial will be in the Concordia cemetery near Juniata.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and one hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Jackson-Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ruhter was born Oct. 29, 1918, to George F. and Sophie Helene Meyer Ruhter at Hastings. He attended school in Prosser.
He married
Sandra J. Shade on March 24, 1979, at Kearney. He farmed in Prosser and founded the Prosser Machinery Auction in 1966. He worked for Kearney Livestock for 41 years. He was an antique dealer for years. He enjoyed going to auctions, fishing and hunting.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church near Juniata.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Randall Ruhter and Sam Ruhter, both of Prosser, Stanley Ruhter of Wood River and Thomas D. Ruhter of Detroit, Mich.; three stepsons, Sam, Billyjo and Ted Clinebell, all of Kearney; two stepdaughters, Terri and Dee Clinebell, both of Kearney; a twin sister, Dorothy Hoffmann of Kenesaw; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Leona.
'Babe' Yilk
GREELEY -- Magdaline "Babe" Yilk, 88, of Greeley died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Greeley Care Home in Greeley.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. The Rev. Gerald Carlson will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery at Greeley.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the church or Greeley Care Home.
T.J. Finn and Sons Mortuary in Greeley is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Yilk was born Jan. 31, 1910, to Joe and Alice (Small) McKenzie at Greeley. She grew up in Greeley and attended school there, graduating from Greeley High School. She then moved to Omaha for several years, doing housework for a living before returning to Greeley.
She married
Richard Yilk on Nov. 7, 1935, at O'Connor. They lived on a farm before moving to Greeley, where she did bookkeeping for her husband's welding shop for many years. She has lived at Greeley Care Home for the last six years.
She enjoyed embroidery and made many quilts and pillow slips.
She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers and five sisters.
Morleen Crouch
Morleen L. Crouch, 50, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Pastors Kenneth and Myrna Van Ostrand will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
A closed-casket visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Crouch was born on May 16, 1948, at Beatrice to Edward and Lorene (Butt) Lickliter. She grew up and was educated in Beatrice. She lived there until she was 21. She moved to Grand Island in 1987.
She married
Donald Crouch on Oct. 7, 1988, at Marysville, Kan. They lived in Grand Island.
Survivors include her husband; three sisters, Edlene (Mrs. David) Green, Irene (Mrs. Phillip) Fourcloud and Helen (Mrs. Cecil Jr.) Jessop, all of Grand Island; and one brother, Gary Lickliter of Beatrice.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Ray; and her parents.
