Melvin Sunderland
ALBION -- Melvin W. Sunderland, 56, of Albion died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at a home near Hayes Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Primrose. The Rev. Ralph Steffensmeier will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with military rites.
Levander Funeral Home in Albion is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Sunderland was born Dec. 27, 1942 at Denver, Colo. to William Henry and Evelyn (Hemmingsen) Sunderland. He received his education at Spalding and Cedar Rapids.
He served in the United States Army from Oct. 23, 1961, until July 15, 1963.
On Nov. 22, 1971, he married
Harriette Irene Burda at Primrose. He worked at Appleton Electric of Columbus and also in various communities as a law enforcement officer. Currently he was working as a deputy with the Hayes County Sheriff's Department.
They moved to their present home in Albion in 1992.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Steinauer and American Legion post No. 347 of Primrose.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Jennifer and Joan, both of Albion and Suzanne Johnson of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant son, Samuel William Sunderland.
Lester Wiese Jr.
CHAPMAN -- Lester Lawrence Wiese Jr., 56, of Chapman, died Monday, May 24, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Wiese was cremated. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Mr. Wiese was born on May 23, 1943, in Fort Riley, Kan. to Lester and Erline (Modesitt) Wiese. He grew up in the Kansas area, joined the Army in 1961 serving in Korea until 1963. He worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant from 1963 to 1964.
He then moved to California to become a tool and die maker.
Mr. Wiese married
Cindy Brown in 1984, they were divorced. He worked in California for 21 years and then moved back to Nebraska where he retired for health reasons.
Mr. Wiese was a member of the United Methodist Church and AA. He also enjoyed motorcycle riding.
Survivors include his mother, Erline Wiese of Alda; one daughter, Kristin Wiese of California; one brother, Robert Wiese and one sister, Margie Saleido, both of California.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Wiese Sr.
Palmer Canfield
Laura Canfield
ANGOLA, Ind. -- Palmer L. Canfield, 77, formerly of Ericson, and his daughter, Laura "Wendy" Canfield, 34, died May 18, 1999, at his home in Angola, Ind.
Mr. Canfield was cremated and will be buried in Greensboro, N.C.
Survivors include one son, Jerry; a daughter, Janice; two grandchildren; four sisters, Lillie of Iowa, Bonnie Lue of Oklahoma and Bessie Pierce and Pearl Paxton of Grand Island; and five brothers, Frances of Minnesota, Arthur of Texas, George of New Mexico, Arlis of Grand Island and Eldon of Dannebrog.
He was preceded in death by one son, Larry; one daughter, Laura; and two sisters, Mary and an infant sister.
Elaine Allison
SARGENT -- Elaine Z. Allison, 80, of Sargent died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at Sandhills Manor in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Walt Collins will officiate. Burial will be in the Gates Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Allison was born July 21, 1918, at Sargent to Samuel and Edna (Wooters) Scott. She spent her childhood in Custer and Blaine Counties and attended school at Dry Valley and Sargent schools.
On Dec. 11, 1937, she married
Charles F. McKnight at Broken Bow. After their marriage they traveled all over the United States. She returned in 1951 to Broken Bow.
On Oct. 21, 1964, she married
Wilmer E. Allison at Broken Bow. She moved to Sargent where she lived until December 1998 when she entered the Sargent Rehab Center, Jennie Milham Medical Center and Sandhills Manor at Broken Bow.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church at Broken Bow.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Charles McKnight of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two daughters, Jeraldean (Mrs. Gary) Predmore of Sargent and Betty Grim of Newman Grove; a step son, Lonnie Allison of Kearney; three brothers Eben Scott and Robert Scott, both of Broken Bow and Sam Scott of Sargent; two sisters, Gyneth (Mrs. Lyle) Orvis of Broken Bow and Avis (Mrs. Mike) Guggenmos of Ogallala; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Irma Stone, her first husband, Charles; a daughter, Eleanor Pedrick; and a granddaughter.
Daniel Bartlett
ORD -- Daniel C. Bartlett, 90, of Ord died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Mr. Bartlett was cremated. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Ord. The Rev. David Stipp will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church of Ord.

'Rod' Bradley
RAVENNA -- Roderick "Rod" William Bradley, 38, of Ravenna died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, in an automobile accident near Ravenna.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the United Methodist Church in Ravenna. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery in Ravenna.
Rasmussen Mortuary of Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to his wife.
Mr. Bradley was born Aug. 1, 1960, in Omaha to Harvey and Margaret (Bradshaw) Bradley. He attended school in Superior, Kearney and Ravenna. He graduated from Ravenna High School in 1979 and attended Community College in Hastings.
During his high school years he drove a milk truck and later joined his father and brother, Richard, with Bradley Truck Lines until 1996. Later he was employed by Chief Industries in Kearney.
He married
Starlet Daughtery on Oct. 12, 1996. The couple lived in Ravenna.
He was a member of the Abundant Life Church in Grand Island.
Survivors include his wife; three stepchildren, Sara Daughtery of O'Neill and Chris Daughtery and Brandy Daughtery of Atkinson; one step grandson; his parents, Harvey and Margaret Bradley of Ravenna; three brothers, Rick, Ron and Ryan Bradley, all of Ravenna; and one sister, Rebecca Russell of Ravenna.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, two brothers and one sister.
'Sal' Czaplewski
LOUP CITY -- Sylvester "Sal" G. Czaplewski, 72, of Loup City died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Reginald A. Urban will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery at Loup City.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service, Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Mr. Czaplewski was born on Aug. 23, 1926, on the family farm east of Loup City to Joseph and Pauline (Mendyk) Czaplewski. He began his education at District 45 School and later attended District 4 Hawk School when the family moved to a farm southwest of Loup City. He also attended Loup City High School.
Upon completing his education, he farmed with his family and worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island during the Korean War. He worked for many years as a cement mason for numerous construction companies, including Geer-Melkus, Dick Looye Construction and Law Co.
He was also self-employed for a number of years. He and his brother John lived in various Central Nebraska communities until returning to Loup City in the spring of 1998. He had lived at the Rose Lane Home for a month.
He was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church.
Survivors include two brothers, Leonard and John Czaplewski, both of Loup City; and two sisters, Magdeline Dymek and Angeline Bonczynski, both of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Czaplewski.
