S.V. McClure
HASTINGS -- S.V. "Mac" McClure, 78, of Hastings died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Hastings. The Rev. S.G. Kessler will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview cemetery in Hastings.
Visitation will be one hour before services Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Mary Lanning Health Care Foundation.
Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McClure was born on May 29, 1920, in Roanoke, Ala., to J.B. and Lula (Glore) McClure.
He married
Mary Jane Campbell on Jan. 11, 1947, in Wichita, Kan.
He worked for W.W. Virtue, later the J.M. McDonald Co., from 1937 until retiring in 1981. He became senior vice president and also served on the board.
Mr. McClure was a trustee of the First Presbyterian Church and was instrumental in building the J.M. McDonald Planetarium in Hastings.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Linda (Mrs. Harry) Argue of Middleton, Wis.; one son, John C. McClure of Columbus; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Annie Alexander of Huntersville, N.C., and Ollie Mae Hawkins of Davidson, N.C.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, J.B., C.S., William and Eugene McClure.
Mary Quinn
AURORA -- Mary Quinn, 106, of Aurora died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services are pending with Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ann Vroman of Billings, Mont.; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Elwood Sandell
POLK -- Elwood M. Sandell, 87, of Polk died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Polk. The Rev. Roger Burke will officiate. Burial will be in Lindale cemetery near Polk.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Solt Funeral Home in Polk. Memorials are suggested to Gideons International.
Nellie Schachta
LOUP CITY -- Nellie Schachta, 83, of Loup City died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center in Grand Island.
Services are pending with Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City.
Jacqueline Scheffler
BROKEN BOW -- Jacqueline Scheffler, 78, of Broken Bow died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Keith Menter will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established to the American Heart Association.
Mr. Scheffler was born on Aug. 22, 1920, in Philadelphia to Samuel and Edna Satin.
She married
Sgt. Paul H. Scheffler of the U.S. Air Force on March 15, 1943. Her many interests included current events, politics, national and international affairs, literature, from current periodicals to the classics, biographies, the arts, painting, sculpture and the theater. She was active in several organizations, primarily literature clubs, charities and organizations.
She was interested in all local, national and international affairs, daily newspapers and weekly and monthly news and literary magazines.
She enjoyed cooking and entertaining in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Lima, Virginia Beach and Norfolk, Va.
Survivors include her husband, of Pass Christian, Miss.; one son, Peter of Huntsville, Ala.; one daughter, Susan Scheffler of Richmond, Va.; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Edwin.
Warren Wegner
CENTRAL CITY -- Warren William Wegner, 79, of Central City died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Central City. The Rev. Debra Tompsett-Welch will officiate. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Memorials are suggested to American Legion Post 6.
Mr. Wegner was born on April 17, 1919, in Central City to Edward H. and Faye C. (Tibbetts) Wegner. He graduated from Central City High School and had been named Nebraska State Actor of the Year in all classes. He then attended the University of Michigan and Nebraska Central College. He worked for Merrick County farmers, then joined his father in the family business, Wegner Monument.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II as a medic with the 3rd Emergency Rescue Unit in the South Pacific.
He married
"B" Clausen on June 22, 1946, in Boelus. He continued to work with his father until 1950, when the couple purchased the business. They operated it until their retirement in 1985. He also served as a substitute rural mail carrier.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 6, serving on the church board and as past Legion commander and honor guard member. He served on the Central City Council and the Valley View Country Club board. He had been president of the local cemetery board and was past president of the Sportsman Club
He enjoyed stamp collecting, hunting, fishing, gardening and raising hybrid violets.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dick and Delton, both of Central City; two daughters, Candice of Central City and Coral (Mrs. Jim) Schnase of Hastings; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Robert as an infant.
Eloise Seeger
BRULE -- Eloise "Toots" Estelle Seeger, 85, of Brule, formerly of Merna, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, at a nursing home in Grant.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Doug Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the Merna Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family meeting friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Seeger was born on Aug. 7, 1913, in Dale Valley near Merna to Earnest Budd and Mary Eliza (Moore) Wood. She grew up and attended school at Dale Valley and Merna High School.
She married
Harold O. Seeger on Sept. 3, 1932, in the parsonage of the Merna EUB Church. Their first years were spent farming in the Dale Valley area. In November 1948, they purchased a farm south of Merna, where they had a grade-A dairy and raised Black Angus cattle.
The couple spent many of their retirement winters in Truth or Consequences, N.M., and a summer with cousins, Floyd and Marge Seeger, in Sula, Mont.
Mrs. Seeger enjoyed gardening, flowers, strawberries, crocheting, quilting and sewing.
She was a Girl Scout leader and 4-H leader. She was a member of the Merna Chapter of the Eastern Star, served twice as worthy matron and received her 50-year membership pin in November 1998. She was a member of the Merna Methodist Church and was active in the Ladies Aid in Merna.
After Mr. Seeger's death on Jan. 18, 1985, she moved to Lincoln to be near her daughter, Joan. She spent four months in Seoul, South Korea, and then moved to Brule to live with daughter, MaryBeth.
After suffering a stroke on Dec. 18, 1998, she lived at Golden Ours Convalescent Home until her death.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan (Mrs. Keith) Kennedy of Lincoln and MaryBeth (Mrs. Paul) Sanchez of Brule; one son, Ervin Seeger of Federal Way, Wash.; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Elwyn of Litchfield, Francis of Kearney and Ernest "Bud" Jr. of Grand Island.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three granddaughters, four sisters and two brothers.
