Lavon Hall
LOUP CITY -- Lavon E. Hall, 92, of Loup City died Friday, April 30, 1999, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loup City. The Rev. Leon Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery at Loup City.
Visitation will be one hour before services Tuesday at the church.
Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Children's Home in Omaha.
Mrs. Hall was born on Oct. 22, 1906, at Loup City to John Franklin and Nina (Hayes) Nicoson. She attended Loup City public schools and Sherman County rural schools and graduated from Wiggle Creek High School in 1926. Upon graduation, she moved with her mother to Arthur County.
She married
Richard R. Hall on Nov. 25, 1933, at Ogallala. The couple ranched and later began to raise bronze turkeys for Swift and Co. In 1948, they moved to Wheaton, Mo., where they worked in the broiler business. They moved to Coffeyville, Kan., in 1951. Mr. Hall died in August 1972, and Mrs. Hall returned to Loup City in 1987. She lived at Westside Park.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Day of Tulsa, Okla.; one son, Larry Hall of Pueblo West, Colo.; and several grandchildren.
Edward Jarecke
ST. PAUL -- Edward R. Jarecke, 93, of St. Paul died Thursday, April 29, 1999, at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Most Rev. Mark A. Pivarunas will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul Senior Center.
Mr. Jarecke was born on May 23, 1905, at Duncan to Matthew and Hedwig (Tryba) Jarecke. He grew up on the family farm near Duncan and attended St. Stanislaus' Parochial School in Duncan.
At the age of 18, he began farming with his brother-in-law near Palmer.
He married
Martha E. Geck on Aug. 21, 1928, at Fullerton. The couple farmed north of Palmer until 1938, when they moved to St. Paul. He owned and operated Jarecke Implement, and they added a Chrysler and Plymouth car dealership to the business in 1946. He retired in 1977.
He and his wife continued to manage rental properties until 1996. Mrs. Jarecke died on Jan. 31, 1998, and Mr. Jarecke moved to Heritage Living Center in April 1998. He enjoyed antiques and gardening.
He was a member of Mary Immaculate Catholic Church of Omaha, Knights of Columbus Council 1918 of St. Paul and a former member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul.
Survivors include one daughter, Emily Jean (Mrs. Tom) Reidy of Kearney; five sons, Jack of Grand Island, Jerry of Valparaiso, Tom of St. Paul, Bob of Alexandria, Va., and David of Lincoln, 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren.; one brother, Tony Jarecke of Tyler, Texas; and three sisters, Barbara Jarecki of Kearney, Germaine Cummins of Holdrege and Amelia Wilson of San Antonio.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, John and Ben; and five sisters, Hedwig Micek, Viola Gonka, Anna Maslonka, Marie Gerber and Helen Fock.
William Plock
COMSTOCK -- William B. Plock, 83, of Comstock died Friday, April 30, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services are pending at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Charles Schamp
AURORA -- Charles W. Schamp, 47, of Aurora died Friday, April 30, 1999, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Mr. Schamp was cremated.
Services are pending with Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Mary Ann Swann ALBION -- Mary Ann Swann, 69, of Albion died Friday, April 30, 1999, at her home.
Services are pending with Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
James Hrnicek
SEWARD -- James "Jim" R. Hrnicek, 80, of Seward died Thursday, April 29, 1999.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent dePaul's Catholic Church in Seward. The Rev. James Benton will officiate. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Catholic cemetery in Ulysses.
A rosary prayer service will be at 8 p.m. Sunday at Wood-Zabka Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and one hour before the church service Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Hrnicek was born on Nov. 21, 1918, at Seward to Engelbert and Agnes (Soukup) Hrnicek. He graduated from Dwight Assumption High School.
He married
Lillian Dolezal on Feb. 8, 1949, in Dwight. The couple farmed north of Staplehurst until 1990.
He was a member of St. Vincent dePaul's Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sons, James Hrnicek and Robert Hrnicek, both of Seward; six daughters, Marie Elliott of Grand Island, Marjorie Jones of Gibbon, Alice Maddox of Rock City, Ill., Wilma Hrnicek of Atkinson, Irene Hrnicek of La Conner, Wash., and Mary Hrnicek of Seward; 14 grandchildren; one-great grandchild; and two sisters, Agnes Wolfe of Auburn, Calif., and Beatrix Kohl of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two grandchildren and a brother, Leo Hrnicek.
Merle Stromberg
Sun City West, Ariz. -- Merle Leroy Stromberg, 77, of Sun City West, Ariz., formerly of Wahoo and Polk, died Monday, April 26, 1999, in Sun City West.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shepherd of the Hills Methodist Church in Sun City West. Graveside services will be at a later date in York.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church of Polk or the United Methodist Church of Wahoo.
Mr. Stromberg was born on Sept. 15, 1921, on the family farm near Polk to Oscar and Josephine (Sundberg) Stromberg. He worked for Standard Oil and farmed until purchasing the Standard Oil Station and Carwash in Wahoo.
He married
Jocelyn James on March 29, 1945, in Palmer. He later worked for the Nebraska Public Service Commission until his retirement.
He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, United Methodist Church in Polk and United Methodist Church in Wahoo. He was a current member of Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in Sun City West.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Stromberg of Wahoo and Terry Stromberg of Fort Collins, Colo.; two grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Stromberg of Washington, D.C., Charles Stromberg of Lincoln and Marvin Stromberg of Lompoc, Calif.; a sister, Eulala (Mrs. Irwin) Buchholz of Sebastopol, Calif., and two sisters-in-law, Elanor Stromberg and Elaine Stromberg, both of Polk.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd, Wallace and Rolland; and a sister, Hazel Powell.
Ruth Weber
HERINGTON, Kan. -- Ruth E. Weber, 84, of Herington, Kan., died Thursday, April 29, 1999, at Herington.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Brockmeier Funeral Chapel in Herington. The Rev. Eugene Hicks will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 2 to 8 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Herington Hospital.
Mrs. Weber was born on March 22, 1915, at Wichita, Kan., to Glen and Gertrude (Grounds) Cochenour.
She married
Albert "Sam" Weber in 1954. She was a retired bookkeeper for the Wichita Stockyards.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Kenneth Weber of Grand Island; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leon Cochenour of Topeka and Glen Cochenour of Winona, Minn.; and one sister, Wilma Beckstrom of Wichita.
