Gertrude E. Fricke, 77, of Grand Island died Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Evelyn Niemann
Evelyn H. Niemann, 77, of 516 N. Grace died Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at Park Place Nursing Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Congregational Church. The Rev. Lonnie Logan will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Kleine Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Niemann was born June 28, 1921, in Grand Island to Henry and Anna (Sieman) Rickert. She lived and went to school in Grand Island.
She married
Bob Carson.
She later married
Carl Niemann on May 18, 1958, in Kearney. He died in 1982.
She worked as a waitress at the Conoco Cafe and also operated a forklift at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Depot in the 1950s.
She was a homemaker, loved watching her grandchildren and working in her flower gardens. She also liked to jug fish at Sherman Lake.
She was a member of the Christian faith and the Platt-Duetsche.
Survivors include one son, Gary Carson of Wheatridge, Colo.; two daughters, Sharon (Mrs. Ervin) Luth of Grand Island and Gloria Jenkins of Denver; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry Rickert of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and one sister, Irene Austin of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by one son; two grandchildren; five sisters; and two brothers.
Helen Musil
RAVENNA -- Helen Nerine Musil, 84, of Ravenna died Tuesday, May 18, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ravenna. The Rev. Steven Schlund will officiate. Burial will be in the Highland Park cemetery in Ravenna.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Musil was born Dec. 14, 1914, at Boelus to Grant and Susie (Schlegal) Smith. She received her GED June 9, 1972.
She married
Fred Bert Musil on April 25, 1936 in Kearney. They worked together and produced a successful farming operation south of Ravenna until 1980. She was a homemaker.
The couple moved to Ravenna after his retirement.
She was a member of the South Ravenna Women's Club for many years. She served as pianist for the women's club and the Bethlehem Dorcas Society. She loved music and was a self-taught pianist and organist. She loved to sing.
She served on the calling, wedding and funeral committees for the church and also embroidered baptismal napkins.
In 1981, she organized two Bible study groups.
Survivors include one son, Alan of Ravenna; one daughter, Connie Avey of Sidney; one grandchild; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers; and six sisters.
James Cook
OMAHA -- Memorial services for James C. Cook, 79, of Omaha will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Ellen Campbell will officiate. Military honors will be provided by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul.
Mr. Cook died on April 4, 1999, at his winter home in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Memorials are suggested to the Howard County Historical Society.
Mr. Cook was born on March 19, 1920, at Quincy, Ind., to Wayne and Stella (Pinkerton) Cook. He attended grade school in the Quincy area and Shortridge High School in Indianapolis.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Sept. 10, 1940, in the 108th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He was a military policeman and was recognized for his skill with a rifle. He later re-enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Manila, where he drove for the commanding general, Eugene Lowry Eubanks. He was discharged on March 5, 1947.
He worked for Layne Western, helped install the well for the Fort Randall Dam project and installed a deep well turbine pump in St. Paul.
He married
Margie Becker on Dec. 22, 1949, in St. Paul. The couple lived in Omaha, where he drove a city bus until purchasing a tavern in St. Paul, which they operated from 1959 to 1963. The couple then returned to Omaha, where he drove a bus for the next five years.
He then worked part time for Fairmont Foods so he could attend Radio Engineering Institute. He graduated in July 1970. He began working for Liberty Tape in 1969 as an electronic technician and later as national sales manager. He retired from Electro-Sound, which bought Liberty Tape, as national marketing manager in March 1985.
The couple spent retirement days in Texas, Florida and the last 11 winters in Scottsdale, Ariz. He had numerous serious health problems for several years but was still an avid golfer.
He was a member of Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10752, both of St. Paul, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 154 of Omaha and a longtime member of the Audio Engineering Society.
Survivors include his wife; his mother-in-law, Effie Andersen of St. Paul; and a brother-in-law, Virgil Becker of St. Paul.
Gary Onnen
NORFOLK -- Gary L. Onnen, 43, of Norfolk died Saturday, May 15, 1999, of a medical condition at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Home for Funerals in Norfolk with the Rev. Lee Weander officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.
There will be no visitation.
Mr. Onnen was born on Oct. 31, 1955, at Akron, Iowa, to Donald Sr. and Lorraine (Huls) Onnen. He attended grade school in Akron and high school in Plainview.
He worked for Norfolk Transmission, Riverside Ballroom and Classen Manufacturing in Norfolk.
He was a member of the Eagles Club.
Survivors include one son, Christopher of Osmond; one daughter, Sheri Onnen of Grand Island; his mother, of Grand Island; three brothers, Donald Onnen Jr. of Lincoln, Dennis Onnen of Grand Island and Greg Onnen of Lincoln; and two sisters, Joyce Onnen of Kingman, Ariz., and Jan Robinson of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Lloyd Sea
LINCOLN -- Lloyd E. Sea, 87, of Lincoln died Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at Eastmont Towers in Lincoln.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney. The Rev. Bert Knudsen will officiate. Burial will be in the Kearney Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday and until service time Friday afternoon at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Sea was born on April 25, 1912, in Kearney to Frank and Hulda (Johnson) Sea. He graduated from Kearney High School. He farmed west of Kearney and also near Wood River until retiring in the early 1990s.
He married
June Roberts on May 15, 1985, in Wahoo. They lived in Kearney until he moved to Eastmont Towers in 1990.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Wahoo.
Survivors include his wife.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
