Letha Burnett
BROKEN BOW -- Letha C. Burnett, 85, of Broken Bow died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Bob Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m., with rosary recited at 7 p.m., Friday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Memorials are suggested to the church, Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center or Jennie Melham Home Health.
Mrs. Burnett was born on May 2, 1913, in rural Blaine County to Edward and Mary (Taylor) Robinson. She attended Janesville country school.
She married
Eugene Burnett on Nov. 28, 1932, at Broken Bow. She lived on a farm and ranch near Berwyn. They retired in 1968 and moved to Broken Bow. Mr. Burnett died on Aug. 23, 1984. Mrs. Burnett remained in her home until her death. Helping her in her home were special care givers Doris Cole, Barbara Staab and Sharon Leibhart.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow, the Altar Society and Community Extension Club.
Survivors include one sister, Mabel Baillie of Broken Bow.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Pierpont and Nova Holley; and four brothers, Ray Robinson, John Robinson, Joe Robinson and Gail Robinson.
Sophie Dose
HAMPTON -- Sophie L. Dose, 87, of Hampton died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Hampton. The Rev. George E. Damm will officiate. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mrs. Dose was born on Sept. 11, 1911, in Hamilton County to Henry and Minnie (Blase) Smith. She grew up in Hamilton County and attended a country school. She lived with her parents and did housekeeping for neighbors until she married.
She married
Arthur Dose on April 3, 1934, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Polk. They lived on a farm north of Hampton. They moved into Hampton in 1971, and she entered the Hamilton Manor in Aurora in September 1996.
She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church at Hampton and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed playing cards with a card group in Hampton and quilting with a group of women.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Don of Hampton; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Norma (Mrs. Lester) Rhode of Hampton.
Donald Johnson
GIBBON -- Donald L. Johnson, 68, of Gibbon died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services are pending with Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon.
David Mace
CENTRAL CITY -- David Mace, 46, of Central City died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln after a lengthy battle with diabetes.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Rev. Debra Tompsett-Welch will officiate. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Mace was born on July 22, 1952, in Central City to Marvin L. and Roberta (Johnston) Mace. He attended Riverside School in Polk County. His family moved to Central City, and he attended Central City public schools and graduated from Central City High School in 1970. He also attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for one year.
He married
Marla Summers on June 1, 1973, at the United Methodist Church in Central City. They lived and farmed near Central City until April 1992, when he suffered a heart attack and was forced to quit farming. He and his family operated a dairy. Mr. Mace also did custom baling and windrowing. He worked for OK Tire in Central City for many years.
He enjoyed reading, gardening, farming and carpentry. Mr. Mace and his wife operated a day care in their home.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Samantha of Central City; one son, Adam of Central City; his mother, of Central City; three brothers, Eugene of Auburn, Wayne of Aurora, Colo., and Roger of Lincoln; and one sister, Dianne (Mrs. Dennis) Wurm of Fairbury.
Donald Miller
SCOTIA -- Donald "Sarge" Dean Miller, 71, formerly of Scotia, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
Mr. Miller was cremated. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Walter Phelan will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the Scotia Rescue Unit.
Mr. Miller was born on June 27, 1927, at Scotia to Herman and Elsie (Klein) Miller. He grew up in the Fish Creek and Scotia areas. He attended District 30 School east of Scotia and was confirmed into the Lutheran faith in 1945.
He served in the U.S. Army from December 1945 to September 1948. He re-enlisted in December 1950 and served until September 1951. He served in the U.S. Air Force from August 1957 to August 1963.
He returned to Greeley County, where he worked for farmers and hauled gravel for Greeley County until retiring in 1996.
He enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends and taking care of his mother.
Survivors include two sisters, Ila Mae Hoagland of Noel, Mo., and Fern Tuma of Cotesfield.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence.
George Miller
GIBBON -- George D. Miller, 83, of Gibbon died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at God Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lakeside cemetery in Canon City, Colo. Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary of Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Miller was born on March 3, 1915, in North Loup to Louis J. and Mae (Flint) Miller. He grew up on his father's farm near North Loup. He graduated from North Loup High School in 1931 and took postgraduate commercial courses at Gillette, Wyo.
He worked at California Hand Prints in Hermosa Beach, Calif., from 1937 to 1940.
He married
Thelma Hamrick on Dec. 19, 1941, at Cumberland, Md. He worked at Carbide and Carbon Chemicals Corp. in South Charleston, W.Va., from 1941 to 1950; as office manager of the Canon City plant of the New Jersey Zinc Co. until 1962; and as purchasing agent for Estes Industries in Penrose, Colo., from 1962 to 1972. Mrs. Miller died on June 24, 1972.
Mr. Miller bought real estate for an investor for two years and retired in 1975.
He married
Reatha Manchester Bridge on Oct. 31, 1981, at Canon City. He moved to Gibbon in October 1998.
He was a member of the Friends Church and IOOF and a life member of BPO Elks Lodge 610.
Survivors include his wife; one stepson, Jack Bridge of Kearney; one stepdaughter, Ginger Sorenson of Othella, Wash.; three step grandsons; two step great-grandchildren; and one brother, Willis G. Miller of Richmond, Va.
Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers.
Robert Swan
ARNOLD -- Robert C. Swan, 77, of rural Arnold died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at the Callaway District Hospital.
Mr. Swan was cremated. A memorial service will be at a later date. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of arrangements.
