Charley Slack
Charles "Charley" H. Slack, 77, of Grand Island died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at the Grand Island Veterans Home, where he had lived since 1992.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Kearney Cemetery. The Rev. C.J. Willis will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 759 and the Kearney National Guard Unit.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney. The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's ward at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Mr. Slack was born on Feb. 20, 1922, in Gothenburg to Charles W. and Laura E. (Read) Slack. The family moved to the Kearney area, and Mr. Slack graduated from Kearney High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy from October 1942 to May 1946. He served as a meat cutter for Safeway Stores for 20 years until he retired.
Survivors include one son, Chuck of Nashville, Tenn.; two grandchildren; two great-grandsons; five brothers, Earl of Kearney, Roy of Aurora, Colo., Donald of Newton, Kan., Raymond of Gothenburg and Riley Slack of Frankfort, Ind.; and four sisters, Mae Humrich of Smith Center, Kan., Betty Jane Eggers of Kearney, Nancy Ann Cox of Denver and Frances B. Honse of Moreno Valley, Calif.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Carol Young
Carol J. Young, 60, of Grand Island died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Eric Ford will officiate.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Survivors include her husband, Edgar; one son, Brent of Kansas City, Kan.; one daughter, Jody (Mrs. Chris) Wallace of Chicago; two grandsons; two brothers, Robert Benner of Watertown, S.D., and Harold Benner of Washington State; and one sister, Dorothy Frandsen of Brookings, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Joyce.
Ngu Le
SHELTON -- Ngu T. Le, 80, of Shelton died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Private family services were on Monday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon. Following cremation, the family will have private burial rites at a later date.
'Pars' Parsons
HORDVILLE -- E.N. "Pars" Parsons, 75, of Hordville died Monday, March 15, 1999, at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Hordville.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Albert Springer
AURORA -- Albert Edward Springer, 92, of Aurora died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Aurora Pleasant View Bible Church. The Revs. Barry McCormick and Marlin Rasmussen will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery southwest of Aurora.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mr. Springer was born on May 8, 1906, at Murphy to John and Katherine (Springer) Springer. He attended District 4 School near Murphy.
He married
Freda Oswald on Jan. 22, 1936, at her parents' home southwest of Aurora. They farmed in the Murphy area until 1945, when they moved to a farm north of Aurora. They moved to their home in Aurora in 1969.
He was a member of the Aurora Pleasant View Bible Church and was a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He joined Gideons International in 1950 and taught at Bible camp for nine years.
He was a member of the American Angus Association and the Aurora Lions Club. He belonged to a horse club for several years and was involved in 4-H.
Survivors include his wife; one son, John of Aurora; one daughter, Eda K. (Mrs. Larry) Aspegren of Oklahoma City, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Minnie Viner
LOUP CITY -- Minnie Viner, 83, formerly of Ord, died Friday, March 12, 1999, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Taylor Cemetery. The Rev. Roger Gillming will officiate.
Visitation will be from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Rose Lane Home.
Mrs. Viner was born on April 21, 1915, on a farm 12 miles north of Taylor in Loup County to Josef and Francis (Elsiek) Sebesta. She attended Golden Rod School in Loup County.
She married
Anton Viner at Burwell. She lived for a number of years at Beatrice and then at Ord. She had lived at Rose Lane Home in Loup City for several years.
Survivors include one brother, Otto Sebesta of Nampa, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred and Arthur Sebesta and an infant brother; and two sisters, Francis Graham and Mary Adams.
Ralph Barnett
Ralph E. Barnett, 85, of Grand Island died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at the Nebraska Veterans Home of Grand Island.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the All Faiths Chapel in Grand Island. The Rev. Fred Gardner will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Arkansas.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home and noon until service time on Thursday at All Faiths Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Veterans Home.
Mr. Barnett was born Feb. 10, 1913, to Edward William and Ada (Biggs) Barnett at Levanon, Mo. He grew up and received his education at Joplin, Mo. He joined the United States Army on May 7, 1942, and served until Jan. 31, 1965. He was a cook while in the service.
He married
Maxine Patricia Smith on June 5, 1914, at Joplin, Mo. After his retirement from the Army, the couple lived in Arkansas. For the past 10 years he had lived in Upland, until moving to the Nebraska Veterans Home two years ago.
He loved to cook and enjoyed baseball.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen DeFreece of Lincoln; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Alfred David Barnett of Butterfield, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his wife and infant sister.
Ruth Lindburg
POLK - Ruth Lillian Lindburg, 97, formerly of Polk, died Monday, July 27, 1998, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Polk. The Rev. Roger Burke will officiate. Burial will be in the Lindale cemetery near Hordville.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Solt Funeral Home in Polk.
Mrs. Lindburg was born Sept. 2, 1900, in Hamilton County to Louis Peter and Josephine (Benson) Jones. She grew up and attended rural Hamilton County School.
She married
Willard Louis Lindburg on Dec. 3, 1919. They lived on a farm north of Polk and farmed for most of their lives. Mr. Lindburg died on March 11, 1975. Mrs. Lindburg moved to Hamilton Manor in 1988 where she lived at the time of her death.
Mrs. Lindburg enjoyed quilting. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Polk, the choir, and many other church organizations. She was also a member of the Womenis Extension Club.
Survivors include one son, Dean Lindburg of Hordville; two daughters, Adelaide (Mrs. Ernest) Bousquet of Lincoln and JoAnn (Mrs. Robert) McKillip of Lincoln; one sister, Vannie Erickson of Hampton; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Elaine Stevens; six brothers and two sisters.
