Hilmer Wallin
Hilmer E. Wallin, 90, of Grand Island, formerly of the Hordville and Taylor area, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Elmwood cemetery in St. Paul, with the Rev. Elton Walth officiating.
Solt Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of arrangements.
'Mike' Flanagan
ALBION -- Duane J. "Mike" Flanagan, 64, of Albion died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion with the Rev. Brian Bergum officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Albion.
Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mr. Flanagan was born on Dec. 15, 1933, in Albion to John and Ruby (Standerwick) Flanagan. He received his elementary education at Albion Public Schools and graduated from Albion High School in 1951. He attended Kearney State College for a short time.
He married
Carol Freese on June 1, 1954, in Albion. He worked at Quiter Motors as a salesman, sold greeting cards and did other jobs until he was unable to work because of health problems due to epilepsy. He entered Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in August 1976. He enjoyed all sports, especially Nebraska football. He liked working with various crafts. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Albion.
Survivors include one son, Joe of Albion; four grandchildren; Carol Flanagan of Albion; and three brothers, Bill of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, Tom of Cozad and Bob of Florence, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and John; and one sister, Rosemary Flanagan.
Velma Meese
ORD -- Velma Meese, 96, of Ord died Saturday at Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services are pending with Ord Memorial Chapel.
Lillian Pokraka
ORD -- Lillian V. Pokraka, 92, of Ord died Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Rev. Jim Warner will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Ord Memorial Chapel with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Valley County Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Pokraka was born May 5, 1906, to Joseph and Veronica Beran in Ord. She was raised in Ord where she also received her education.
She married
Ignatius L. Pokraka on Aug. 23, 1927, in Ord. The couple farmed near North Loup until their retirement in 1966. Mr. Pokraka died March 25, 1986, and she continued to live on the farm until 1990, when she moved into Ord.
She was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and was involved in the Rosary Society. She was instrumental in establishing the HUD housing in North Loup.
Survivors include one son, David J. Pokraka of Racine, Wis.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.
JoAnn Anderson
LINCOLN -- JoAnn C. Anderson, 63, of Lincoln, formerly of Arcadia, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998, at Lincoln.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Arcadia United Methodist Church at Arcadia. The Rev. Murry Johnston will officiate. Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mrs. Anderson was born July 21, 1935, to Gerald and Coralyn (Lewin) Dean in Arcadia. She graduated from Arcadia High School and attended Kearney State College.
She married
Walter E. "Gene" Anderson on Sept. 4, 1955. While being a homemaker, she worked for Square D and the Lincoln Public Schools at Hawthorne School as an aid. Mr. Anderson died Oct. 2, 1997, and she continued to live in Lincoln.
She was a member of the Arcadia United Methodist Church, and the Lincoln Chapter of Xi Alpha Delta of Beta Sigma Phi where she also served as past secretary and vice president.
Survivors include five sons, Steve, Bruce, and Rodney "Rock", all of Lincoln, Gary of Topeka, Kan., and Donny of Bismarck, N.D.; and four grandsons.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Melvin Callahan
OREGON CITY, Ore. -- Melvin Callahan, 61, of Oregon City, Ore., formerly of Shelton, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, of a heart attack.
Mr. Callahan was cremated. Services were Dec. 4 at the Hillside Chapel in Oregon City.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.

Mr. Callahan was born April 16, 1937, in Shelton. He graduated from Wood River High School in 1954.
He married
Patricia Rohrer in 1959. He served in the U.S. Army and lived in Sitka, Alaska for 20 years before moving to Oregon City in 1977. He was supervisor for Smurfit in Oregon City for 21 years.
Survivors include his wife, Patti; three daughters, Kathleen Vilandre and Shannon Loucks, both of Alaska, and Heather Newman of Estacada, Ore.; two sons, Shayne of Estacada, Ore., and Shaun of Molalla, Ore.; four brothers, Jerome of Lexington, Floyd and Raymond, both of Grand Island, and Frank of Wood River; and two sisters, Evelyn Peterson of Cozad and Joan Rosinski of South San Francisco, Calif.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael; a granddaughter; his father, William; his mother, Lena, and a brother, Bernard.
Adah Strong
MESA, Ariz. -- Adah Campbell Strong, 88, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Taylor, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, following a lingering illness.
Services were Nov. 28 in Arizona.
Mountain View Mortuary in Mesa was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Strong was born Jan. 17, 1910, to George and Stella Campbell in Taylor. She grew up in Taylor, graduating from Taylor High School. She taught several years in Loup County Schools.
She married
Allen Strong of Almeria in December 1932. They ministered in churches in Rock County, Fremont, St. Edward, Ord, Englewood, Colo., and Yarnell, Ariz. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Jan. 3, 1993.
Survivors include five children, Dale Strong, Gordon Strong, Carolyn Cushing and Charles Strong, all of Arizona, and Zada (Mrs. Lanny) Hughes of Colorado; a brother, Arnold Campbell, and a sister, Louella (Mrs. Jay) Lees, both of Mesa, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Archie and Clyde Campbell.
