Hazel Nichols
CENTRAL CITY -- Hazel Irene Nichols, 88, of Central City, formerly of York, died Friday, March 5, 1999, at Central City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Arbor Drive Baptist Church in York. Military graveside services will be in Greenwood cemetery in York.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Monday at Metz Mortuary in York. Memorials are suggested to the church or Litzenberg Long Term Care Center Aviary Fund.
Miss Nichols was born May 7, 1910, to William and Louisa Ella (Benson) Nichols at Linwood. She graduated from Ord High School and worked for Fairmont Foods in Loup City.
She served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1944 to 1946. She returned to Loup City and worked at Fairacres Dairy in Grand Island. She then moved to York and kept books for J.M. McDonalds Store until she retired. She later became a resident of Litzenberg Long Term Care Center in Central City.
She was a member of Arbor Drive Baptist Church in York, York Christian Women's Club and past member of Senior Fun Club and York Friendship Club.
Survivors include one niece, Linda Greger of Central City.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and seven sisters.
Thomas Shotkoski
ST. EDWARD -- Thomas A. Shotkoski, 74, of St. Edward died Friday, March 5, 1999, at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward. The Rev. Edward Gill will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 226 in St. Edward.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward with a wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Shotkoski was born Jan. 1, 1925, to Adam and Priscilla (Goc) Shotkoski on a farm in Vorhes Valley north of St. Edward. He attended Vorhes Valley Grade School and graduated from St. Edward High School in 1942.
After graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force from June 21, 1944, to June 15, 1946. He also earned the rank of sergeant. He returned to St. Edward, where he operated Home Cafe until 1947.
He married
Veronica P. Chlopek on Oct. 18, 1948, at St. Edward. They lived in Boone County, where they farmed and operated a dairy.
He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church and American Legion Post No. 226 in St. Edward.
He enjoyed hunting.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Kenneth of Albion, William, Robert and Daniel, all of St. Edward; three daughters, Patricia Luther of Columbus, Theresa (Mrs. William) Loughman of St. Edward and Peggy (Mrs. James) Wonderly of Wray, Colo.; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard of Boone and Vernon of Fremont and one sister, Helen Laudenklos of Clarkson, Wash.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Leonard and one daughter, Susan.
Albert Smith
ST. LIBORY -- Albert Smith, 83, of St. Libory died Sunday, March 7, 1999, at Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Libory's Catholic Church in St. Libory. The Rev. David L. Rykwalder will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with a 7 p.m. vigil service and Knights of Columbus rosary. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Smith was born Oct. 1, 1915, on the family farm west of St. Libory to John and Anna (Steinbach) Smith. He attended St. Libory's Parochial School and upon completing his education, he farmed with his family.
He married
Marie A. Jansen on Jan. 23, 1940, at St. Libory. The couple farmed southwest of St. Libory. Mrs. Smith died May 21, 1992. He continued to farm the rest of his life.
He enjoyed farming and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a member of St. Libory's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council No. 1918 in St. Paul.
Survivors include four daughters, Jeanette (Mrs. Don) Vogt of Dannebrog, Roxana (Mrs. Norman) Fischer of Oakland City, Ind., Shirley (Mrs. Gary) Slaby of Roca and Mary (Mrs. Craig) Alberti of St. Libory; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Louis Smith.
Victor Campos
Victor Campos, 84, of Grand Island died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. parish rosary, Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Hospice.
Mr. Campos was born on Jan. 12, 1915, at San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to Wenceslao and Manuela (Martinez) Campos. He moved to the United States at the age of 9 and was educated in the Grand Island public schools.
He married
Julia Aguilar on Feb. 29, 1940, at St. Mary's Cathedral. Mr. Campos worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for a few years and worked for the Silas Mason Co. at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant. He then returned to the railroad and retired from the Union Pacific after 33 years of service.
He enjoyed carpentry, fishing and gardening. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral parish.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Benny and Arthur Campos, both of Grand Island; two daughters, Gloria (Mrs. Kit) Johnson of Overton and Monica Campos of Grand Island; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Art Campos of Dannebrog.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Ronald Faubion
Ronald R. Faubion, 36, of Grand Island died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Ryan Ronnfeldt
Ryan Scott Ronnfeldt, 4, of 611 N. Eddy died suddenly Tuesday, April 27, 1999, of natural causes.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Mundelein, Ill.
There will be no visitation.
Ryan was born on Aug. 29, 1994, in Hastings to Larry Jr. and Nadine (Hickman) Ronnfeldt.
Survivors include his parents; a brother, Nathan; a sister, Brittany; his paternal grandfather, Larry Ronnfeldt Sr., and step grandmother, Rose of Grand Island; maternal grandparents, Larry and Kriss Hickman of Mundelein, Ill.; and great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hickman of Minden, Thelma Ronnfeldt of Grand Island and Mrs. Illo Powell of Doss, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Elizabeth Marie Ronnfeldt; and great-grandparents, Art Ronnfeldt, Ida Smith and Katheryn Peterson.
Mabel Fossberg
POLK -- Mabel Fossberg, 78, of Polk died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at York General Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Polk. The Rev. Roger Burke will officiate. Burial will be in Lindale cemetery near Polk.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Solt Funeral Home in Polk.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Polk Rescue Unit.
Mrs. Fossberg was born on Nov. 16, 1920, in Scotia to Conrad and Ollie (Schultz) Hermsmeyer. She grew up in the Scotia area, attended Fish Creek Elementary School and graduated from Scotia High School in 1938.
She taught in a small country school near Scotia for a short time and then attended the University of Wyoming for a year. After returning to Nebraska, she lived in Hastings.
She married
Gordon Dever Fossberg on March 17, 1947, in Scotia. The couple lived in Oxford before moving to Polk in 1948. She taught in a country school in Merrick County for several years.
She began teaching in the Hordville public school system in the mid-1960s. She received a degree from Kearney State College in 1973 and continued teaching in Hordville until retiring in 1987.
Mrs. Fossberg was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Women's Missionary Society, the Birthday Club and the Polk Women's Club. She enjoyed playing the piano and cooking.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Daryl and Roger Fossberg, both of Lincoln; two daughters, Sharon (Mrs. Phil) Thomas of Huron, S.D., and Rita (Mrs. Ron) Fowler of Hordville; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Melvin Hermsmeyer of California and Irvin Hermsmeyer of Grand Island; and one sister, Esther Knosp of California.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jane Marie; one brother, Paul Hermsmeyer; and one sister, Edna Leibli.
