Carl Burney
Carl C. Burney, 95, of Grand Island, formerly of Bradshaw, died Saturday, May 15, 1999, in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bradshaw United Methodist Church. The Revs. Jaclyn Hoy and Vernon Rice will officiate. Burial will be in the Plainfield cemetery in Bradshaw.
Metz Mortuary in York is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Burney was born on Dec. 12, 1903, at Everton, Mo., to Christopher C. and Martha (Howell) Burney.
He married
Irene E. Johnson on Feb. 2, 1927, in Nebraska City. He farmed in the Seward County and Bradshaw areas until 1970.
He was an active member of the Bradshaw United Methodist Church and a former director of the ASC office.
Survivors include one son, Duane Burney of Grand Island; two daughters, Virginia Bowman of Grand Island and Darlene Bowman of Bradshaw; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, six brothers and six sisters.
Raymond Lyions
Raymond C. Lyions, 80, of the Grand Island Veterans Home died Monday, May 17, 1999, at the veterans home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Ken West will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery in Wolbach with military rites by Ray Mapes American Legion Post 236 of Wolbach.
Visitation will be prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Mr. Lyions was born on Feb. 19, 1919, in the Brayton area in Greeley County to Thomas and Eva Johnston Lyions. He was raised in the Brayton area. He attended Midwest Rural School northwest of Wolbach. He then worked for area farmers.
He entered the U.S. Army and served in Italy during World War II. After his discharge, he farmed with his brother Leonard northwest of Palmer. He then lived and farmed with a couple in the Hastings area.
He entered the Grand Island Veterans Home on May 24, 1985.
Mr. Lyions enjoyed helping other residents and helping his brother on the farm.
Survivors include one brother, Leonard of Palmer.
He was preceded by two brothers, William and Thomas.
Eveline Dillow
HASTINGS -- Eveline F. Dillow, 95, of Hastings died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at Hastings.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church in Hastings. The Revs. Jim Miller and Don Nunnally will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside cemetery in Gibbon.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Brand-Wilson Mortuary and one hour before services at the church Thursday.
Memorials are suggested to Grace United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Dillow was born June 17, 1903, to John and Lydia (Boettger) Hornickel at Mira Valley in Ord.
She married
Samuel Dillow on July 1, 1924. She taught Sunday school as a young woman. They moved to the Hastings area in 1966. Mr. Dillow died Nov. 30, 1970. She did volunteer work at Good Samaritan Village.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was active in the church nursery. She was active in extension work and the Women's Missionary Society.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Peters of Lodgepole and Mary Jane (Mrs. Dean) Zimmerman of Dewitt; one son, William of Holdrege; and two granddaughters.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and one grandson.
Steven Grigsby
CENTRAL CITY -- Steven Lee Grigsby, 44, of Central City died Monday, May 17, 1999, in Central City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Rev. Charles Pollard will officiate. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
Mr. Grigsby was born on Oct. 10, 1954, in Aurora to Robert "Bub" and Raymona (Page) Grigsby. He attended District 8 School and graduated from Central City High School in 1972.
He married
Linda Marie Huber on Jan. 15, 1982, in Central City. He farmed on his own until the late 1980s and then worked for various farmers in the Central City area. He then worked for Overland Ready Mix Sand and Gravel, where he was working at the time of his death.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and was past president of the Corvette Club. He enjoyed refinishing and collecting classic cars. He also enjoyed motorcycle rides.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Ryan, Mark and Shawn Grigsby, all of Central City; his mother, of Central City; two brothers, Rick Grigsby and Ronald Grigsby, both of Central City; and one sister, Peggy (Mrs. Brad) Wells of Central City.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Helen Musil
RAVENNA - Helen Nerine Musil, 84, of Ravenna died Tuesday, May 18, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna.
Services are pending with Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna.
'Larry' Thompson
HASTINGS -- Lawrence J. "Larry" Thompson, 55, of Hastings died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Carl W. Utley will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview cemetery in Hastings.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church Thursday.
Memorials are suggested to Adams County Cancer Society or the Alcott School PTO.
Mr. Thompson was born Aug. 22, 1943, to James and Eva (Halvorsen) Thompson in Knox County. He attended grade school in Winnetoon and graduated from Creighton High School in 1961. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1963 to 1967. During that time, he also served in the Vietnam War.
He married
Janet Cook on Jan. 29, 1971, in El Dorado, Kan. He started working for Sears Roebuck and Co. on Feb. 11, 1967, in Newton, Kan., and later transferred to the Sears store in Hastings in June 1971. He was working for Sears at the time of his death.
He was a member of American Legion 11 in Hastings and VFW 1151 of Creighton.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Bobbi (Mrs. Pete) Faber of Hastings and Dawn (Mrs. Jim) Baldwin of Hastings; his mother, Eva Thompson of Osmond; five grandchildren; and one sister, Evaline Hoeppner of Osmond.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Roberta Wilson
ORD -- Roberta Wilson, 76, of Ord died Monday, May 17, 1999, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Evangelical Free Church in Ord. The Rev. Paul Day will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery at Scotia.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Burwell Community Memorial Care Center.
Mrs. Wilson was born on May 15, 1923, at Ord to Edward and Sophia (Kuehl) Timmerman. She grew up in the Springsdale area east of Ord. She graduated from Ord High School in 1941. She then went to work for the telephone office in Ord. She later worked as a beautician in Grand Island for a short time.
She moved to Kansas City and married
Leonard Markley. They later returned to Ord. She attended Chadron State Teachers College and received her teacher's certificate. She taught at Barker Country School west of North Loup.
She married
Marvin Wilson on May 20, 1959, at Ord. They later owned and operated the Hillcrest Motel in Ord for several years before they retired.
Mrs. Wilson had attended the Evangelical Free Church in Ord. She was an avid antiquer and Sunday school teacher and loved baking for her family.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin; a stepdaughter, Linda (Mrs. Jerry) Tillinghast of Holts Summit, Mo.; one grandson; three step grandsons; a brother, Verl Timmerman of Mesa, Ariz.; and two sisters, Mildred (Mrs. Adam) Zebert of Ord and Arlene (Mrs. Richard) Peterson of Mesa, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Markley; a sister, Marie Knapp; a twin brother, Robert Timmerman; and two infant brothers.
