Albina Hruban
CENTRAL CITY -- Albina Hruban, 95, of Central City died Friday, May 14, 1999 at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Private family graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Central City Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Hruban was born Dec. 1, 1903 in Texas to Joseph and Francis Novak. She lived in Texas until she was two years old and then moved to Omaha.
She married
Method J. Hruban on March 5, 1926. The couple was in the florist business in Omaha and several other locations including Schuyler and Pamona, Calif. before settling in Central City in 1947.
In 1972 she married
her brother-in-law, James Charles Hruban. They also had a florist business in Schuyler. The couple moved to Litzenberg Long Term Care in Central City in 1990.
Mrs. Hruban was active in the Nebraska Florists Association, the American Legion Charter in Schuyler, the Republican Party and the Business of Professional Women. After retirement, the couple planted a large gardens and gave produce to a neighboring nursing home.
Survivors include three daughters, Gustie (Mrs. Voimer) Belda of Temple, Tex., Gloria (Mrs. Tom) McHargue of Central City, and Georgia (Mrs. Gordon) Iverson of Tacoma, Wash.; one son, John Hruban of Parkville, Kan.; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands.
Ruby Lindsay
CAIRO -- Ruby L. Lindsay, 82, of Cairo died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Cairo United Methodist Church. The Rev. Alan Davis will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Cairo.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Apfel Funeral Home.
Santos Montelongo
AURORA -- Santos Montelongo, 97, died Saturday, May 15, 1999, in Aurora.
Arrangements are pending with Higby Mortuary.
Arthur Rowedder
ANSLEY -- Arthur "Art" Rowedder, 69, of Ansley died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at the Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. The Rev. Bob Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in the Ansley cemetery with military honors. Govier Brothers is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, and from 8 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the mortuary.
A memorial has been established to the American Heart Fund.
Tony Savage
CENTRAL CITY -- Tony S. Savage, 90, of Central City died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Central City. The Rev. Nelson Newman will officiate. Burial is in the St. Lawrence cemetery in Silver Creek, with Military Rites at the graveside by American Legion Post No. 6 in Central City.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. with a vigil at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Mr. Savage was born Dec. 22, 1908, south of Genoa in Nance County to Thomas and Julia (Iwan) Tomasiewicz (also known as Savage). He was educated at Nance and Merrick County grade schools. He farmed near Clarks until June 1934.
From 1934 to 1935, he served as an assistant lay inspector with the Dept. of Agriculture in Ogden, Utah. He later worked for Standard Oil Company at Clarks and Ord, Capper Publishing Company of Topeka, Kan. and Swift and Company in Columbus and West Point. In 1941, he returned to government service.
He married
Jean Lisko of Osceola on Sept. 11, 1935, in rural Polk County.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1928. He served during World War II.
He resided in the metropolitan Washington D.C. area for 36 years before returning to Nebraska. When he retired in 1973, he had 35 years of civilian and military service with the federal government as Deputy Division Director, Bureau of Naval Personnel, Washington D.C.
He received several honors and awards.
Mr. Savage was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church; Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus; Life member of American Legion Post No. 6 in Central City; Life member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees; and several others.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Maxine (Mrs. James) Wessel of Pinckney, Mich.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Louis Savage of Glendale, Calif.; and two sisters, Helen (Mrs. James) Sellers of Houston, Texas and Kathryn (Mrs. Albin) Prososki of Osceola.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Francis and Joe; and three sisters, Mary, Anna and one infant.
Richard Schrader
RAVENNA -- Richard A. Schrader, 82, of Ravenna died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna.
The body was cremated. No services are planned. The O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home of Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Schrader was born April 19, 1917, at Lincoln to R.R. and Elizabeth (Safford) Schrader. He graduated from Rokeby High School.
He married
Edith Caddy in June 1939 in Eagle.
He worked as an engineer for the Burlington Northern Railroad.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Fireman and Engineers.
Survivors include two sons, Richard A. Schrader Jr. of Kansas City, Mo. and Timothy C. Schrader of Lincoln; one daughter, Anne E. Parrott of Lincoln; four grandchildren; one brother, George of Ventura, Calif.; and one sister, Helen Hansen of Des Moines, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his wife; and one brother, Vance.
Clifford Scherff
AURORA -- Clifford Scherff, 83, of Aurora died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church in Aurora. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Higby Mortuary.
Mr. Scherff was born Oct. 1, 1915, at Pottersville, MO. to George and Myrtle (Youngblood) Scherff. He attended a country school in Pottersville.
He married
Geneva Williams on Dec. 13, 1938, in Pottersville. He farmed in Caulfield, Mo., and later moved to the Stockham area in Hamilton County to farm there. After retiring from farming in 1980, he and his family moved to Aurora.
He was a 4-H leader in the 1950s, and was president of the Lions club. He spent many hours on restoration projects at the Plainsman Museum, and he served on the organizational board at the Hamilton County Manor.
Survivors include his wife of Aurora; three sons, Lee Scherff of Clay Center, Jerry Scherff of Aurora and Roy Scherff of Overland Park, Kan.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Amos Scherff of Pottersville, MO. and Calvin Scherff of Clarksville, Ark.
Thelma Bailey
Thelma L. Bailey, 91, of Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center died Friday May 14, 1999 at Lakeview.
Services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home. More information will appear later.
Hattie Reher
Hattie Reher, 96, of Grand Island died Friday, May 14, 1999, at the Lakeview Nursing/Rehab Center in Grand Island.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island with the Rev. John Douglas Russell officiating.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to St. Pauls Lutheran Church or at the donor's choice.
Mrs. Reher was born on Feb. 18, 1903, to Richard and Cecelia (Neubert) Boltz in Hall County, where she grew up and completed the eighth grade at District 23.
She married
Arnold Reher on Jan. 11, 1922, in Grand Island. The couple lived in the Hall County and Grand Island area, where Mrs. Reher was a mother and homemaker.
Mrs. Reher was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Eunice Hopkins and Bernadine Schmidt, both of Grand Island; a son, Daryl Reher of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mabel Werner and Irene Knuth, both of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and two sisters.
