Rosa Nielsen
ST. PAUL -- Rosa L. Nielsen, 88, of St. Paul died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Larry Lepper will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Nielsen was born on Jan. 10, 1911, on the family farm near Farwell to Rasmus "R.O." and Anna (Hansen) Rasmussen. She was educated near Farwell and grew up on the family farm.
She married
Minor Nielsen on Dec. 30, 1930, at Dannevirke. They lived on a farm in the Dannevirke area for many years.
In 1952, they moved back to the farm near Farwell where Mrs. Nielsen was born. After her husband's death in 1964, she moved to St. Paul. She entered the Heritage Living Center in 1991.
Survivors include one son, Richard of Arvada, Colo.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Henry Rasmussen; and four sisters, Clara Hansen, Christina Blaha, Hilda Nesiba and Hertha Olsen.
Leonard Sebesta
ALDA -- Leonard L. Sebesta, 71, of Alda died Monday, May 10, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Kleine Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Joe Scahill will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Sebesta was born on March 9, 1928, at Weissert to Edward Sr. and Bessie (Oliva) Sebesta. He grew up and attended school near Broken Bow. After his education, he began working for Palmer Monument Co.
He married
Jean L. Newlun on July 25, 1948, at Broken Bow. They lived in Broken Bow until moving to Alda in 1978. He worked for Desch-Paine Monument as a supervisor until he retired in 1990.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping and the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Jerry of Hordville; one daughter, Sandy of Alda; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Lester of Littleton, Colo., and Eldon of Ord; and four sisters, Blanche Smith of Clovis, Calif., Frances Shea and Dorothy Petersen, both of Broken Bow, and Evie of Hawaii.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ben and Edward Jr.
Consuelo Ruiz
SLATON, Texas -- Consuelo Ruiz, 83, of Slaton, Texas, died Monday, May 10, 1999, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. The Rev. Lawrence Hemp will officiate. Burial will be in Englewood Cemetery.
Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ruiz was born on April 24, 1916, in Coleman, Texas.
She married
Guadalupe Ruiz Sr. on Oct. 21, 1933, in Coleman. They moved to the Southland area in 1948 and to Slaton in 1950. Mr. Ruiz died on June 29, 1980.
Mrs. Ruiz was a homemaker, a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Guadalupanas of the church.
Survivors include seven sons, Benito, Steve and Lupe Ruiz, all of Slaton, Pedro of Odessa, Texas, Jesse of Buffalo, Texas, Pablo of Shelton and Tony of Lubbock; four daughters, Mary Leyva, Teresa Guerra and Sarah Gonzales, all of Slaton, and Josie Valdez of Fort Worth, Texas; 42 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Gilberto Rendon of Greeley, Colo., and Ruben, Luis and Raul Rendon of Lubbock; and three sisters, Beatrice Solis and Lile Gallegos, both of Lubbock, and Oralia Martinez of Kermit, Texas.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Manuela Arguello.
Karen Stougard
NEHALEM, Ore. -- Karen Genese Stougard, 51, died Sunday, May 9, 1999, in Nehalem, Ore.
Memorial services will be at Calvary Christian Church in Nehalem.
Mrs. Stougard was born on Aug. 14, 1947, in Callaway to Leslie and Viola Hopkins. She grew up and attended school in Lexington.
She married
Everett Stougard in 1971. They moved to Nehalem in 1987.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Leona (Mrs. Jeff) Hill of Nehalem; two sons, John of Tillamook, Ore., and Everett of Nehalem; six grandchildren; four sisters, Elaine Marsh of Omaha, Lois Major of Grand Island, Barbara Myers of Mesa, Ariz., and Lynette Gomez of Doniphan; and three brothers, David Hopkins of Pataskola, Ohio, Keven Hopkins of Doniphan and Mike Hopkins of Cordova.
She was preceded in death by one infant brother.
Ellen Brown
Ellen E. Brown, 86, of Grand Island died Saturday, May 8, 1999, at Wedgewood Manor.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Orchard with the Rev. Norma Jean Andrews officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hill cemetery in Orchard.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ashburn Funeral Home in Orchard.
Mrs. Brown was born on March 23, 1913, at Orchard to James L. and Gertie (Nye) Withee. She graduated from Orchard High School in 1930 and attended Nebraska Wesleyan University for one year.
She married
Wilbur Brown on Dec. 21, 1934, at Stanton. They lived at Orchard and then moved to a ranch near Inman, where they lived for about 40 years. They moved to Norfolk in 1978 for their retirement. Mr. Brown died in 1991.
Mrs. Brown lived in Norfolk another three years before moving to St. Paul to be near her daughter, Karon.
She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church and a 60-year member of the Rebekah Lodge, where she was past noble grand.
Survivors include her daughter, Karon (Mrs. Gene) Cornett of St. Libory; one grandson; three step grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Robert Gartner
Robert J. Gartner, 70, of Grand Island died Monday, May 10, 1999, at his home.
Services are pending with the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Lupe Schwartz
Lupe J. Schwartz, 66, of Grand Island died Monday, May 10, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Tom Lyon will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visditation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggesteed to St. Mary's Cathedral.
Glen Chapin
BROKEN BOW -- Glen Chapin, 89, of Broken Bow died Saturday, May 8, 1999, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Bob Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Sandhills Anglers Fishing Club.
Mr. Chapin was born March 15, 1910, in Cozad to Harry and Della Marie (Reeder) Chapin. He grew up in Cozad and graduated from Cozad High School.
He married
Celestine Rourke Aug. 1, 1935, in Broken Bow.
He butchered meat at Broadway Market and later worked at and owned Broken Bow Packing Co. for over 20 years. After selling the packing plant, He worked for Arrow Motors and Ruff Motors selling cars.
The couple moved to Halsey in the early 1960s where they operated the Superette grocery store and cafe. They then moved to Kearney where he worked for the college as a custodian.
The couple returned to Broken Bow where he worked at Gateway Motors and later Chapin's Decorating.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and a charter member of the Broken Bow Elk's Lodge BPOE 1688.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Patty (Mrs. Jerry) Jacquot of Merna; two sons, Gene of Broken Bow and Jim of Merna; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Maude Darling and Betty Wages, both of Cozad.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jerry; four brothers; and two sisters.
