Glen Chapin
BROKEN BOW -- Glen Chapin, 89, of Broken Bow, died Saturday, May 8, 1999, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Bob Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Sandhills Anglers Fishing Club.
Mr. Chapin was born March 15, 1920, in Cozad to Harry and Della Marie (Reeder) Chapin. He grew up in Cozad and graduated from Cozad High School.
He married
Celestine Rourke Aug. 1, 1935, in Broken Bow.
He butchered meat at Broadway Market and later worked at and owned Broken Bow Packing Co. for over 20 years. After selling the packing plant, he worked for Arrow Motors and Ruff Motors selling cars.
The couple moved to Halsey in the early 1960s where they operated the Superette grocery store and cafe. They then moved to Kearney where he worked for the college as a custodian.
The couple returned to Broken Bow where he worked at Gateway Motors and later Chapin's Decorating.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and a charter member of the Broken Bow Elk's Lodge BPOE No. 1688.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Patty (Mrs. Jerry) Jacquot of Merna; two sons, Gene of Broken Bow and Jim of Merna; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Maude Darling and Betty Wages, both of Cozad.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jerry; four brothers; and two sisters.
Steve Peters
LOUP CITY -- Steve I. Peters, 79, of Loup City, died Saturday, May 8, 1999, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Reginald A. Urban will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery in Loup City.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service.
Memorials are suggested to the Rose Lane Home.
Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Peters was born Dec. 17, 1919, on a farm east of Loup City in the Schaupps area to John and Anna (Smolinski) Peters. He attended District No. 73 rural school and the St. Francis parochial school in Ashton.
He farmed with his family for many years and owned and operated Peters Salvage Yard. He was also employed by the Sherman County Roads Department for 26 years.
He enjoyed craft and woodworking for many years. He entered Rose Lane Home Dec. 22, 1992, where he lived the rest of his life.
He was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church.
Survivors include one brother, Raymond of Loup City; and one sister Esther Krakowski of Rockville.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence, Julius, Lloyd and Louie; one sister, Rita Norseen; and two infant sisters.
Thomas Coyle
Thomas P. Coyle, 75, of the Grand Island Veterans Home died Thursday, May 6, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home.
Alma Goodridge
Alma D. Goodridge, 87, of Grand Island, formerly of Bradshaw, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bradshaw United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jaclyn Hoy will officiate. Burial will be in Plainfield cemetery west of Bradshaw.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Metz Mortuary in York.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Goodridge was born on June 7, 1911, at Chester to Wesley and Anna (Frye) Seamands.
She married
Harry Ronald Goodridge on June 10, 1929, at Nebraska City. They owned and operated Goodridge Drug Store in downtown Bradshaw for many years.
Mrs. Goodridge worked as a telephone operator in Bradshaw for many years and then worked for the Bradshaw school district.
She was a member of the Bradshaw United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing the piano for church and Sunday school activities.
Survivors include one son, Bob Goodridge of St. Peter's, Mo.; two daughters, Mary Anne (Mrs. Donald) James of McCool Junction and Susan (Mrs. Jerry) Grosor of Bradshaw; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Alvin Seamands of San Francisco and Cal Seamands of Arlington, Va.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and one sister.
Bert McGee
Bert McGee, 95, of Grand Island died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church, the Make-A-Wish Foundation or the donor's choice.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes; three daughters, Donna (Mrs. Jack) Madsen of Las Vegas, Pat (Mrs. Robert) Wilson of Edmond, Okla., and Anne (Mrs. Ted) Kelsey of Rockville; two sons, M.E. "Bud" McGee of Denver and Dennis McGee of Grand Island; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Clinton McGee of Berlin, Wis., Keith McGee of Pedersen, Iowa, Roy McGee of Columbus and Paul McGee of Bloomfield; and three sisters, Linda Linder of Aurora, Martha Smith of Sioux City, Iowa, and Mary Slegal of Julesberg, Colo.
He was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter; a sister, Elsie; and four brothers, Earl, Clyde, Ben and Merle.
William Peterson
William C. Peterson, 81, of Grand Island died Thursday, May 6, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Bishop Michael McCain will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Survivors include his wife, Doris; three sons, George Peterson, Walter Peterson and Dana Peterson, all of Grand Island; three daughters, Lucinda Williams of Wood River, Joan (Mrs. Marc) Lovendahl of Morganville, Kan., and Kathy Wilson of Grand Island; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Elmer Peterson of Cheyenne, Wyo., Merle Peterson of Gurley and James Peterson of Dodge City, Kan.; and one sister, Francis Peterson of Cheyenne.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura; a grandson; two great-grandsons; and a sister, Ila.
Rodney Burnett
ANSELMO -- Rodney Burnett, 42, of Anselmo died Friday, April 30, 1999, at his home.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Anselm's Catholic Church in Anselmo. The Rev. Mark Maresh will officiate. Mr. Burnett was cremated.
Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established to the family.
Survivors include his wife, Linda of Hastings; three daughters, Amanda Burnett and Stacey Burnett, both of Hastings, and Heather Rose of Lincoln; two stepsons, Kristopher and Benjamin Shaw, both of Hastings; his father and stepmother, Clair and Leah Burnett of Anselmo; his mother, Virginia John of Purling, N.Y.; three sisters, Linda Bang of Purling, N.Y., Teresa Kolkebek of Sandy, Utah, and Kathy LaMothe of Pasadena, Calif.; and seven brothers, Dan Burnett of Anselmo, David John of Texas, Jim John of Purling, N.Y., Chris John of California, Steve Burnett of Anselmo, Greg Burnett of Shelton and Mitch Burnett of Oakdale.
