George Cure
George Richard Cure, 50, of Grand Island, formerly of Holdrege, died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege. Rev. Steven Billington and Chuck Galloway will officiate. Burial will be at 7 p.m. in the Stanley cemetery at Amherst.
Mr. Cure was born Aug. 8, 1948, at Kearney to Clarence Richard "Jerry" and Edith Rachel (Thomas) Cure. He graduated from Kearney High School in 1967. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard U.S.S. Camden during the Vietnam Conflict from Aug. 15, 1967 to May 10, 1971.
He married
Catherine T. Davis on May 20, 1973 at Dannebrog. He worked as a custodian and bus driver for the Holdrege Public Schools. He most recently worked for Nitro Construction Company in Grand Island.
He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Phelps County Sheriff's Posse, Holdrege Seed Bowling Team and American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, singing, Husker football and being outdoors with his family.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Brandon and Mitchell; and a daughter, Katina, all of Grand Island; mother, Edith Cure of Amherst; brother, Guy "Buzz" of Amherst; and three sisters, Betty Ladehoff of Shelton, Diana "Sis" Hill of Kearney and Jerrylynn (Mrs. Jerry) Fisher of Amherst.
He was preceded in death by his father and an infant sister.
Earl McWilliams
Earl E. McWilliams, 73, of Grand Island, died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at the Tiffany Square Care Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island. Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Faith United Methodist Church or Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie's No. 378 Cancer Fund.
Mr. McWilliams was born Jan. 11, 1926 at Unadilla to Charles and Leona (Weber) McWilliams. He grew up and received his education in Syracuse. He graduated from Syracuse High School in 1943 and entered the U.S. Air Force on Jan. 8, 1946, serving as a control tower operator. He was discharged on Oct. 21, 1948 as a sergeant. He attended radio school in Omaha.
He married
Ruth Brammeier on Feb. 25, 1950 at Plattsmouth. They moved to North Platte where he was an engineer for KODY Radio Station. In 1951, they moved to Beatrice where he worked for KWBE Radio Station. In 1955, they moved to Waterloo, Iowa, where he was an engineer for KWWL TV. In 1957, they moved to Grand Island, where he worked as an electronic technician for the FAA until retiring in 1984.
He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie's 378, which he served as a past president. He was the current Eagle State Father of the Year, member of the American Legion Post 300 in Doniphan, VFW in Grand Island, Saddle Club and the Elks. He volunteered as a cook for the Eagles and Elks Hamburg Night and other special events. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, golfing, and was on the senior golf league.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael of Grand Island, Bruce of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Debra (Mrs. Brad) Wells of St. Paul; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Glaubitz of Ozark, Mo.; brothers, Harold of Syracuse, Ross of Unadilla, Charles of Fairfield, Mont.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Faust.
Agnes Nacke
Agnes Nacke, 82, of Grand Island, formerly of Hooper, died Friday, April 30, 1999, at Lakeview Nursing Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hooper. Rev. Bill L'Heureux will officiate. Burial will be at St. Rose Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. at Warne-Johnson Funeral Home in Hooper. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, one hour before service time.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Nacke was born Feb. 16, 1917 at Wisner to Herman and Agnes "Rabe" Brehmer. She attended school in Wisner. She lived in Grand Island for the past year and a half and was a resident of Hooper since 1945. She previously lived in Washington and Cuming counties.
She married
Joseph Nacke on May 20, 1935 at West Point. She was a homemaker and babysitter.
She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hooper and the St. Rose Guild.
Survivors include a son, Hubert of North Hollywood, Calif.; five daughters, Trilvian (Mrs. Joe) Cerny of Fremont, Loyola (Mrs. Richard) Rosno of Grand Island, Therese Grimm of Wamego, Kan., Sally (Mrs. Robert) Price and Connie (Mrs. Keith) Weinzetl of The Colony, Texas; two sisters, Alvina Wubbenhorst of Wisner, Lenora Gilster of Lincoln; 25 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel; and a brother, Herbert Brehmer.
Laura Peterson
Laura A. Peterson, 45, of Grand Island, died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Grand Island. Bishop Michael McCain will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Favazza and Becky Price, both of Grand Island; and her parents, William and Doris Peterson of Grand Island.
Irene Hodge
KEARNEY -- Irene Hodge, 83, of Gibbon, died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Faith United Church in Gibbon. Rev. Barbara Spangler will officiate. Burial and graveside services will be at 2 p.m. at Westerville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon.
Memorials are suggested to Faith United Church or Gibbon Emergency Unit.
Mrs. Hodge was born Jan. 31, 1916, near Broken Bow to John Yancey and Cora Boyd Smith. She graduated from Berwyn High School in 1933.
She married
Roy H. Hodge on Feb. 12, 1936, at Ansley. They moved to Broken Bow in 1936 where she worked as a clerk typist with the Department of Agriculture, retiring in 1978. They moved to Gibbon in 1983.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Broken Bow, serving as an elder, financial secretary, church school teacher and secretary. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary 3576, Rebekah Lodge 110, and Eastern Star of Broken Bow. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Gibbon since 1984, Faithful Rebekah Lodge 89, Smile City Kitchen Band, American Legion Auxiliary 310 and Love Mary Martha Circle.
Survivors include a son, Wesley J. Hodge of Gibbon; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Pete Smith of San Jacinto, Calif.; and two sisters, Audrey Roseberry of Prineville, Ore., Shirley Carr of Gibbon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister and three brothers.
Reta Lichtenberger
MASON CITY -- Reta La Vaughn Lichtenberger, 60, of Mason City, died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at her home.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Mason City Cemetery. Rev. Dean Hanson will officiate. Burial will be in the Mason City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Hospital oncology department.
Mrs. Lichtenberger was born Jan. 16, 1939 at Broken Bow to Delwin and Florence (Tyson) Stithem. She grew up in the Sandhills area.
She married
Jay Lichtenberger on March 24, 1955 at Broken Bow. They lived in Broken Bow and Kearney. In October 1959, they moved to Fellows, Calif., where she worked at T.G.N.Y. discount store for several years. They moved to Taft, Calif. in 1983. They retired in 1993. They moved to Mason City on Nov. 11, 1993.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church at Hazard. She enjoyed bingo, flower gardens and humming birds.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Randy of Mason City and Rodney of Broken Bow; three daughters, Debbie Lichtenberger and Tammy (Mrs. John) Hunt, both of Mason City, and Peggie Lichtenberger of Broken Bow; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Vickie Childress of Konawa, Okla.; three brothers, Darwin Stithem of Overton, Denny Stithem of Mason City and Teddy Stithem of Cozad.
She is preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
Violet Myers
SARGENT -- Violet S. Myers, 88, of Sargent, died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at the Sargent Health and Rehab Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Rhoad Funeral Home Chapel in Sargent. Rev. Samm Johnston will officiate. Burial will be in the Somerford cemetery southwest of Sargent.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Sargent Rescue Unit.
