Ruby Lindsay
CAIRO -- Ruby L. Lindsay, 82, of Cairo died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at St. Francis Skilled Care Unit in Grand Island.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Cairo United Methodist Church. The Rev. Alan Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Apfel Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Lindsay was born on Feb. 26, 1917, at Cairo to Jesse and Lizzie (Shoopman) Orndoff. She graduated from Cairo High School and Kearney State College.
She married
Bill Lindsay of Cairo on March 9, 1940. He died in 1989.
Mrs. Lindsay taught school for 38 years, the last 18 years at Jefferson Elementary in Grand Island. She retired in 1988.
She was a member of the Cairo United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star. She was active in several card clubs and the Cairo Senior Center.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Sheeks Rivas of Grand Island; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ester Dickey of St. Paul.
Egnatz Lubash
ST. PAUL -- Egnatz T. Lubash, 87, of St. Paul died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Michael McDermott will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at St. Paul with military honors at the graveside.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul and from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the church with a wake service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Lubash was born on April 30, 1912, on the family farm near Ashton to Thomas and Veronica (Lewandowski) Lubash. He was educated in a rural school south of Loup City. He grew up on the family farm in Sherman County.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 10, 1941, to Oct. 15, 1945. He then moved to Omaha, where he worked in a rubber factory. He later moved to a farm in Howard County near Ashton.
He married
Veronica Krolikowski on Oct. 24, 1951, at Ashton. The couple farmed near Ashton until 1971, when they retired and moved to St. Paul. Mrs. Lubash died in December 1996. Mr. Lubash remained in the family home until March 31, 1999, when he entered the Grand Island Veterans Home.
He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119, both of St. Paul.
He enjoyed yard work and gardening.
Survivors include one son, Martin of St. Libory; one daughter, Bernice (Mrs. Al) Ziola of Grand Island; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Emily Kosmicki of Grand Island and Delphine Mrkvicka of Farwell; and two brothers, Hubert of Sidney and Alvin of Omaha.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Bernice and Martha Lubash and Clara Riskowski; and one brother, Stanley.
Santos Montelongo
AURORA -- Santos Montelongo, 97, of Aurora died Saturday, May 15, 1999, in Aurora.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora. The Rev. John Keefe will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Higby Mortuary. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
Mr. Montelongo was born on Nov. 2, 1901, at Hacieda Del Ojo, Mexico, to Evaristo and Concepcion (Hernandez) Montelongo. He grew up in Durango, Mexico, where he attended elementary school. He later served as a soldier in the Mexican Revolutionary War from 1915 to 1919.
He married
Catalina DeLara in 1926. She died in 1935.
He married
Maria Gonzales on Dec. 26, 1938.
He moved to Pennsylvania in 1944 to work on the railroad. Following World War II, he migrated to several different states as a migrant worker. He settled in Aurora on April 29, 1957.
In his native country, he farmed, was a barber and a grocer. In Nebraska, he worked for Maurice Kremer and also did lawn work until his retirement in 1967.
Survivors include his wife, Maria; five sons, Jerry of Grand Island, Greg of Aurora, Santos Jr., Mike and Frank of El Paso, Texas; three daughters, Guadalupe Casares of Los Fresno, Texas, Mary Tournor of Hastings and Melinda Moore of Aurora; 34 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great grandchildren.
Harold Nutter
GIBBON -- Harold Kenneth Nutter, 95, of Gibbon died Monday, May 17, 1999, at Centennial Park Village in North Platte, where he had lived since December 1998.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith United Church in Gibbon. The Rev. Barbara Spangler officiated. Burial was in the Gibbon Riverside Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Godberson Mortuary of Gibbon is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Nutter was born on Nov. 21, 1903, to John and Jennie (Ringholdson) Nutter. He was educated at District 8 School and Gibbon High School.
He married
Josephine Scott on Oct. 31, 1923. He lived in the Gibbon area for 94 years, farming and living northeast of town for more than 60 years.
He served as a substitute mail carrier for a number of years and retired from active farm work in 1970. He later worked for several years at Windmill State Recreation Area and, in his early 90s, volunteered as part-time gardener for Good Samaritan Care Center.
He was a longtime member of IOOF of Gibbon.
Survivors include one daughter, Genevieve (Mrs. Gordon) Robb of Lincoln; one son, John of North Platte; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jean Nelson of Broomfield, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one son, Richard.
Arthur Rowedder
ANSLEY -- Arthur "Art" Rowedder, 69, of Ansley died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Bob Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in the Ansley cemetery with Military Honors.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to service time Wednesday.
A memorial has been established to the American Heart Fund.
Mr. Rowedder was born on Sept. 4, 1929, at Ansley to Clarence and Rose (Burnett) Rowedder. He attended Box Elder Rural School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War.
After his discharge, he worked at a rock quarry in Elkhorn for many years and later worked at a feed yard near Springfield.
He married
Dolly Haith, and they lived in the Springfield area. Mr. Rowedder returned to Ansley after Mrs. Rowedder's death in the 1980s. He lived at Husker Homes.
Survivors include four sisters, Shirley (Mrs. Don) Weight of Loup City, Letha (Mrs. Carl) Cool of Dannebrog, Emma (Mrs. Gerald) Sweley of Grand Island and Judy (Mrs. John) Bourland of Litchfield; and four brothers, Glen of Aurora, Ill., Ron of Kearney, Kenneth of Anchorage, Alaska, and Daniel of York.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two infant brothers, Allen and Clarence.
Richard Schrader
RAVENNA -- Richard A. Schrader, 82, of Ravenna died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna.
The body was cremated. No services are planned. O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home of Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Ravenna EMTs or the donor's choice.
Mr. Schrader was born on April 19, 1917, at Lincoln to R.R. and Elizabeth (Safford) Schrader. He graduated from Rokeby High School.
He married
Edith Caddy in June 1939 in Eagle. He worked as an engineer for the Burlington Northern Railroad.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers.
Survivors include two sons, Richard A. Schrader Jr. of Kansas City, Mo., and Timothy C. Schrader of Lincoln; one daughter, Anne E. Parrott of Lincoln; four grandchildren; one brother, George of Ventura, Calif.; one sister, Helen Hansen of Des Moines, Iowa; and a special friend, Emma Fester of Ravenna.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one brother, Vance.
