John Kruse
John F. Kruse, 69, of Grand Island died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Gretchen Diers will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the family.
Carl Lamm
Carl E. Lamm, 92, of Lebensraum Retirement Home died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be one hour before services at the church.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Lamm was born on Oct. 30, 1906, on a farm northeast of Grand Island to Henry and Louisa (Niemoth) Lamm. He received his education in a rural school.
He married
Esther Grosch on Dec. 17, 1931, at the St. Pauls English Lutheran Church parsonage. They farmed near St. Libory until retiring in 1971 but continued living on the farm. Due to failing health, Mr. Lamm moved to Lebensraum in 1977.
Mr. Lamm was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Julia (Mrs. Linden) Bockmann of Palmer; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two infant sons; one infant daughter; three brothers, Fred, Elmer and Walter; and one sister, Ann Niemoth.
Harry Larson
ST. PAUL -- Harry W. Larson, 96, of St. Paul died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at the Howard County Hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Larry Leper will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the family or the hospital.
Mr. Larson was born on July 10, 1902, in Greeley County near Wolbach to Anders and Anna (Johnson) Larson. He grew up near Wolbach and attended Midway District 26 School in Greeley County near Wolbach. He farmed with his father and brothers.
He married
Viola Petersen on May 6, 1935, at Omaha. After his father died, he farmed with his brothers, and they operated the Larson Brothers Cattle Co. near Wolbach. He also worked for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office in Greeley. They moved to St. Paul when he retired.
He enjoyed farming, raising cattle, dancing and polka music.
He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church of St. Paul.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Richard of Grand Island; three daughters, Carol (Mrs. Wayne) Schweitzer of Grand Island, Kay (Mrs. Bernard) Yax of St. Paul and Betty (Mrs. Marion) Panowicz of Omaha; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Alfred of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Jean; two sisters, Ellen Teilmann and Annie Woodward; one brother, August Larson; and two infant brothers.
Robert Reimers
ST. PAUL -- Robert L. Reimers, 61, of St. Paul died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Charles Pollard will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Reimers was born on March 19, 1937, on the family farm north of Dannebrog to Robert and Evelyn (DeVore) Reimers. He grew up on the family farm and attended St. Paul public schools. The family later moved to Grand Island, where he attended Grand Island public schools.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He married
Carol Young on Dec. 7, 1959, at Seward. The couple first lived in Grand Island and later moved to Kearney. The family moved to St. Paul in 1968.
Mr. Reimers had worked for Diamond Engineering, Hooker Brothers and Knight Brothers. He worked with his son-in-law, Mark Roepker, on his farm near St. Libory for the past five years.
He enjoyed yard work.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Evelyn (Mrs. Thomas) Reimers of Central City, Laura (Mrs. Mark) Roepker of St. Libory and Carolyn Reimers of St. Paul; one son, Paul Reimers of Grand Island; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Roy Reimers of Paris, Texas, and John Reimers of St. Paul.; and four sisters, Inez Hancock of St. Paul, Florence Nelson and Betty Hopkins, both of Grand Island, and Lois (Mrs. Bob) Long of Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Robert Lee Reimers; an infant daughter, Lavada Mae Reimers; two grandchildren; and one brother, Donald Reimers.
Elmer Smith
RAVENNA -- Elmer L. Smith, 71, a former Gibbon/Shelton area farmer, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna, where he had lived since 1988.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Shelton Cemetery. The Rev. Barbara Spangler will officiate.
Visitation will be from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Monday at the cemetery for viewing.
Godberson Mortuary of Gibbon/Shelton is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Smith was born on May 8, 1927, on a farm southwest of Shelton to Frank B. and Mayme C. (Vohland) Smith. He grew up in the Gibbon/Shelton area and attended District 22 School.
He lived and worked on the family farm most of his life. Due to ill health, he moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna in 1988.
He had taken care of his parents for many years. He enjoyed playing cards and playing his accordion at the nursing home.
He had been associated with the Evangelical United Brethren Church as a youth.
Survivors include two sisters, Geraldine Sadd of Kearney and Dorothy (Mrs. Forrest) Miller of Gibbon.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Victor, Clarence, James and an infant brother, Bradley.
Walter Williams
BROKEN BOW -- Walter Henry Williams, 90, of Broken Bow died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Bob Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in the Dale Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. rosary, Friday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Williams was born on Nov. 1, 1908, north of Merna to Henry Louis and Nora Ellen (Cozad) Williams. He attended Pleasant Valley District 81 School north of Merna and Merna High School.
He married
Irene Pickett on Nov. 12, 1929, at Dodge City, Kan. He began farming north of Merna. Mrs. Williams died on Oct. 30, 1934.
He married
Minnie J. Bader on Feb. 3, 1937, at Anselmo. They moved to a farm southeast of Broken Bow in March 1948. They retired from farming in November 1978 and moved to Broken Bow. Mrs. Williams died on Nov. 17, 1997.
Mr. Williams was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow.
Survivors include three sons, Richard of Lincoln, Wayne of Sidney and Robert of Gretna; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Louise Studs of Los Angeles.
In addition to his two wives, he was preceded in death by four sisters.
