Charles Peters
OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Charles A. Peters, 85, of Olympia, Wash., died Jan. 2, 1999, at Providence St. Peter's Hospital in Olympia.
Private services were held.
Mills and Mills Funeral Directors of Olympia were in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
Mr. Peters was born on Oct. 22, 1913, in Utica to Charles and Annie (Schultz) Peters. The family lived on a farm west of Staplehurst for many years. The family later moved to Tamora, and Mr. Peters continued working in the area.
He married
Verona Sweeney in 1939 in Seward. They later moved to Washington. He lived in Olympia for 48 years.
He co-owned and operated K&C; Tractor Co. and worked at Olympia Brewing Co. for 23 years, retiring in 1977.
Mr. Peters was a horseman who competed in many rodeos in the Pacific Northwest. He enjoyed hunting and trail riding in the Cascades.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gene of Olympia and Gary of Kirkland, Wash.; a daughter, Gail Brown of Santa Maria, Calif.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Patterson of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Henry; and a sister, Dorothy Hohnstein.
Elmer Bowers
Elmer L. Bowers, 82, of Grand Island died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Gretchen Diers will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Messiah Lutheran Church or Research to Prevent Blindness.
Mr. Bowers was born on Feb. 7, 1916, at Grand Island to Lawrence and Mary (Steinbeck) Bowers. He grew up and was educated in Hall County.
He married
Sylvia Smolek on June 29, 1940, at Aurora. The couple lived in Washington, D.C. They moved in 1942 to Los Angeles, where he worked for Lockheed Corp.
He entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 25, 1945. He was stationed in Japan with the 46th Engineer Construction Battalion and was discharged on July 25, 1946.
After his discharge, the family moved to Grand Island, where he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in the maintenance and way department. He retired in 1979.
He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the Platt-Duetsche Society.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda (Mrs. Frank) Carbajal of San Jose, Calif., and Karen (Mrs. Russell) Hiatt of Columbus; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, John and Sam Bowers, both of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by one son, Gary; two brothers, Roy and Lawrence; and a sister, Clara.
Florence Kociemba
WOOD RIVER -- Florence G. Kociemba, 88, of Wood River died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Arrangements are pending with Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River.
Martha Menter
HASTINGS -- Martha "May" Menter, 96, of Perkins Pavilion in Hastings died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at Perkins Pavilion.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings. The Rev. Harold D. Stromer will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview cemetery at Hastings.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to service time Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Menter was born on Aug. 17, 1902, in Hastings to John and Margaretha (Kreinheader) Lau.
She married
Lloyd Jackson in 1923. He died in 1956.
She married
Otis Menter in 1958. He died in 1968.
She was a homemaker and a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She lived in Hastings all her life.
Survivors include one son, Don Jackson of Muscadine, Iowa; and three grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.
Ann Tomasiewicz
CENTRAL CITY -- Ann Tomasiewicz, 87, of Central City died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at Integrated Health Services in Central City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church. The Rev. Nelson Newman will officiate. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery.
A wake service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Harry Wroblewski
LOUP CITY -- Harry Wroblewski, 94, of Loup City died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Thomas Mullowney will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery at Loup City.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Peters Funeral Home in Loup City and will continue from 6 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service, Sunday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Wroblewski was born on March 20, 1904, on a farm in the Schaupps area near Ashton to Ben and Mary (Krolikowski) Wroblewski. He was educated in Sherman County rural schools and then farmed with his family.
He married
Clara Sekutera on Aug. 20, 1929, at Loup City. The couple first lived southwest of Loup City and later moved to a farm west of Loup City. They moved to Slate Creek, Idaho, in 1956 and returned to farm near Loup City in 1958. Mrs. Wroblewski died on Jan. 12, 1974. Mr. Wroblewski moved into Loup City in 1976.
He married
Teckla Garvel on April 15, 1978, at Grand Island. Mr. Wroblewski entered the Rose Lane Home at Loup City in November 1997 and lived there the rest of his life.
He enjoyed playing cards. He was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Helen (Mrs. Lloyd) Merritt-Brown of Council, Idaho; four sons, Ted Wroblewski of Ord, Leo Wroblewski of Arcadia, Dominic Wroblewski of Boelus and George Wroblewski of Gibbon; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one sister, Alberta Kramolisch of Omaha; and two brothers, Leonard Wroblewski of Ord and Albin Wroblewski of Loup City.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara; an infant daughter; three sisters, Barbara McDonald, Ernestine Speer and Nellie Harder; and three brothers, Ed, Frank and Pete Wroblewski.
Marilyn Johnson
YORK -- Marilyn D. Johnson, 55, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at her home near York.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in York. The Rev. James Divis will officiate. Burial will be in Plainfield cemetery west of Bradshaw.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Metz Mortuary in York.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Johnson was born on Dec. 24, 1943, in Kearney to William and Lucile (Thomas) Musil. She graduated from Shelton High School in 1962.
She married
Lanny C. Johnson on July 27, 1963, in Grand Island. She lived in York and farmed with her husband in the York/Bradshaw area.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in York.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Brad Johnson of Kansas City, Mo., and Brian Johnson of Bradshaw; a daughter, Brenda (Mrs. Dave) Brauer of Lincoln; one grandson; her mother, of Wood River; one sister, Carolyn Musil of Lakewood, Colo.; and two brothers, Stan Musil of Columbus and Dennis Musil of Ogden, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her father and two brothers.
Velma King
Velma J. King, 80, of Grand Island died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
