Floyd Payton
Floyd F. Payton, 71, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Del Roper will officiate.
There will be no visitation. Mr. Payton was cremated. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Hospice or the donor's choice.
Mr. Payton was born on Aug. 17, 1927, at Wolbach to Henry and Merna (Thayer) Payton. He grew up and was educated in Greeley County.
He married
Alice VanHorn.
He later married
Phyllis Schlattmann at Grand Island.
He drove for United Motor Way, the Foster Grandparents program and the senior citizens bus.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Eagles Aerie 378 in Grand Island. He enjoyed gardening and hunting, especially raccoon hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; four sons, Richard of Fullerton, Robert of Las Vegas, N.Y., Floyd "Butch" of Bartlesville, Okla., and Wayne of Bucharest, Romania; one daughter, Kathleen (Mrs. Richard) Galusha of Central City; one stepson, Bruce Schlattmann of Grand Island; two stepdaughters, Mary (Mrs. Dale) Bernth and Sheri (Mrs. Dan) Vodehnal, both of Grand Island; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Della Kinney and Florence Grotz, both of Grand Island, and Wilma Poss of St. Paul; and one brother, George of Scotia.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth; a grandson; three sisters; and a brother.
Wayne Schultz
Wayne H. Schultz, 83, of Lakeview Health and Rehab Center, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at Lakeview.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Schultz was born on Aug. 6, 1915, in Wausa to Henry O. and Esther V. (Swanson) Schultz. He grew up and was educated in Wausa. He worked on the family farm and then for the Works Progress Administration.
He married
Doris Claussen on March 26, 1937, in Wausa. Mr. Schultz worked for Behlen Manufacturing in Columbus from 1957 to 1968. The couple moved to Grand Island, and Mr. Schultz worked for Geer Manufacturing from 1968 to 1974. Mrs. Schultz died in 1974.
Mr. Schultz married
Mary Hayes on Feb. 15, 1975, in Yankton, S.D. He then worked for Sharlo Manufacturing until his retirement.
His hobbies included fishing and camping.
Survivors include five sons, Delwayne of Alliance, Bruce of Bullhead City, Ariz., Jerry of Tallahassee, Fla., Clark of Rapid City, S.D., and Terry of New Orleans; four daughters, Trudy (Mrs. Michael) Briggs of Tekamah, Barbara (Mrs. Cecil) Birchard of Alda, Lucinda (Mrs. David) Bauers and Wanda (Mrs. Gale) Kincheloe, both of Grand Island; 32 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Lee of Omaha and Leslie of Tulsa, Okla.; and two sisters, Gladys (Mrs. Harley) Wakley of Bloomfield and Laverne (Mrs. Al) Koops of Bloomfield.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Beverly; one great-grandson; and two brothers, Russell and Donald.
Herman Peters
PALMER -- Herman C. Peters, 93, of Palmer died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at Community Care of America in Palmer.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Michael Helwig will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 3 to 4:30 and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Peters was born on July 11, 1905, in Howard County to Fred and Emma (Luebbe) Peters. He grew up and was educated in Worms.
He married
Sarah Stone on Nov. 21, 1926.
He married
Margaret Reimers on July 20, 1954.
He married
Delpha Bushnell on May 9, 1963, at Grand Island.
Mr. Peters farmed during the 1930s and worked for Holcomb Hatchery in the late 1940s. Later in life, he worked at the First Presbyterian Church as a custodian. He retired in 1974.
Mr. Peters was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Platt-Duetsche. He enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis (Mrs. Milt) Kurz of St. Paul; one son, Alvin Peters of Independence, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Freida Bader of Atkins, Iowa, Alma (Mrs. Arnold) Dammann of Worms and Edna (Mrs. Eric) Kuck of Grand Island.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mamie Scheer and Meta Schmidt; and four brothers, Henry, Walter, Eddie and Willie Peters.
Frances Rupprecht
WAVERLY -- Frances Lorraine Rupprecht, 85, of Waverly, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at Community Care in Waverly.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Ralph Steffensmeier will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Friday at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
Mrs. Rupprecht was born on Aug. 9, 1913, at Greeley to James C. and Frances Agnes (Moncrieff) McDonald. She graduated from Greeley Sacred Heart.
She married
Louis R. Rupprecht on Nov. 25, 1940, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. They lived in Cedar Rapids, where they owned and operated the family hardware and furniture business until their retirement. Mr. Rupprecht died on July 29, 1983.
Mrs. Rupprecht moved to Lincoln in 1990 and lived with her son, Tom.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and Altar Society in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include two sons, Tom of Lincoln and John of Omaha; one daughter, Mary Ann (Perry) Nadler; and three grandsons.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert.
Eldon Sich
ORD -- Eldon Sich, 84, of Ord died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Ord. The Rev. David Stipp will officiate. Additional services will be conducted by the Ord Oddfellows Lodge.
A private family burial will be prior to services at the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Sunday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Sich was born on Dec. 5, 1914, on a Garfield County farm to Frank and Bessie (Cech) Sich. He attended District 49 School and graduated from Burwell High School in 1931. He then worked on the construction of the Burwell Dam.
He married
Bessie Klat on Oct. 25, 1937, at Ord. They farmed near Jungman Hall, southeast of Burwell. They moved to a farm east of Ord in Springdale Township in 1941 and farmed there until retiring in 1977. Mrs. Sich died on Feb. 3, 1997, and Mr. Sich moved to the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
He was president of the North Loup Irrigation District for 25 years and received recognition from the governor for 25 years of service. He was on the Springdale school board for 24 years, held several offices in the Ord Oddfellows Lodge and served as an elder at the Ord First Presbyterian Church.
He enjoyed farming, playing cards, gardening and traveling.
Survivors include three sons, Emanuel of Ord, Duane of Vancouver, Wash., and Melvin of Thief River Falls; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Eldon Dean Sich; and two sisters, Alma Proskocil and an infant sister.
