Carol Hohlen
TRUMBULL -- Carol Jean Hohlen, 62, of Trumbull died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings. The Rev. Kathleen Kasper will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery at Trumbull.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings and 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested in her name.
Mrs. Hohlen was born on Dec. 20, 1936, near Hildreth to Louis and Jennie (Groothuis) Frecks. She moved to Hastings in 1954 to attend Mary Lanning School of Nursing. She completed three years of nursing training to become a registered nurse, then attended Hastings College. She received her bachelor's degree in 1958.
She married
Howard Hohlen on June 18, 1960. They moved to an acreage near Trumbull in 1965. She worked as a staff nurse at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital and then was an instructor at the nursing school for 25 years.
She received her master's degree from Kearney State College in 1987. She then served as surgical services quality improvement and in-service coordinator at Mary Lanning until she retired in 1999.
She was a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses, Mary Lanning School of Nursing Alumni Association and First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she served on the church council. She was a longtime member of the Martin Lingwall Handbell Choir and Chancel Choir and served as a Stephen's Ministry facilitator and on the outreach committee.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Mark of Firth; one daughter, Barbara of Trumbull; one brother, Alfred Frecks of Hildreth; and one sister, Luella Lammers of Grand Junction, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
'Kenneth' Myers
BROKEN BOW -- George "Kenneth" Myers, 96, of Broken Bow died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the Lillian Church of Christ in Lillian. The Revs. Jim Stark and Jeff Nielsen will officiate. Burial will be in the Gates Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Myers was born on Nov. 20, 1902, at Gates to Perry A. and Maggie C. (Olsen) Myers. He attended Gates School and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1922. He farmed in the Gates area.
He retired in 1969 and moved to Broken Bow in 1975.
His first wife, Ethel (Franklin) Myers, died in September 1975. His second wife, Catherine (Carstensen) Myers, died in July 1983, and his third wife, Luella (Lefler) Myers, died in November 1995.
He lived with his nephew, Perry Myers, and his wife, Carol, for three years before moving to Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in November 1998.
He was a member of the Lillian Church of Christ and past member of the Anselmo Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include one sister-in-law, Fern Myers of Gates.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Florence Nekoliczak
ST. PAUL -- Florence Nekoliczak, 80, of St. Paul died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at the Howard County Community Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Revs. Michael McDermott and Ted Nekoliczak will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, Monday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to Masses or the family's choice.
Dillo Troyer
ORD -- Dillo Troyer, 97, of Ord died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Revs. Jim Warner and Stanley Gorak will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m., Sunday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Valley County Home Health or the church.
'Pete' Bliven
LEXINGTON -- Darrell A. "Pete" Bliven, 76, of Lexington died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at Elwood Care Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Ann's Parish Center in Lexington with the Rev. Don Buhrman officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. Ann's cemetery at Lexington.
Visitation will be at a wake service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Bliven was born on June 15, 1922, at Homer to Jess and Nellie Mae (Burge) Bliven. He moved with his family to the Lexington area, where he attended school.
He entered the U.S. Army on Dec. 2, 1942, and left for Europe and northern Africa on July 14, 1943. He was involved in four major battles and was wounded at Casino, Italy. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, three Bronze Battle Stars, the Victory Medal and the Purple Heart. He returned to the United States on Sept. 24, 1946.
He married
Maxine Gonzalez on July 3, 1948, at Lexington.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling and watching the New York Yankees and Cornhuskers. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church and the Disabled American Veterans.
His wife died on May 10, 1996.
Survivors include seven sons, Darrell, James, Porf, Jess, Lupe, Michael and Mark Bliven, all of Lexington; three daughters, Maria (Mrs. Butch) Atterberry of Elwood, Karla (Mrs. Ralph) Yeager of Alliance and Meacheal (Mrs. Guy) Embree of Siloam Springs, Ark.; 22 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; one brother, James Bliven of Fremont; and two sisters, June Richers of Wray, Colo., and Virginia Wallden of Parker, Colo.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, three brothers and one sister.
Sterling Coatman
FAIRBURY -- Sterling C. Coatman, 89, of Fairbury died Feb. 1, 1999, in a Fairbury care center.
Services were on Feb. 4 at the United Methodist Church in Fairbury. Burial was in the Alvo Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
The Nuckolls-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Coatman was born on Nov. 6, 1909, in Avoca.
He married
Eleanor Hensley and worked for the John Deere Co. his entire life. He enjoyed sports. He was an avid Husker fan.
He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Elks Club in Fairbury.
Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne "Suzie" (Mrs. Andy) Markham of Grand Island and Collen (Mrs. Jerry) Williams of Destin, Fla.; and four sons, Edgar and Lee, both of Fairbury, Gilbert of Lincoln and Larry of Greeley, Colo.
Duane L. Gray
INAVALE -- Duane L. Gray, 67, of Inavale, formerly of Grand Island, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at Gala Garden Manor at Inavale.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hutchins Funeral Chapel in Franklin. The Rev. J.C. Browne will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery at Franklin.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Gray was born on July 17, 1931, on a farm east of Franklin to Lawrence and Jessie (Terrell) Gray. He attended District 18 School and Franklin High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving during the Korean War. After his discharge, he moved to California, where he worked as a mechanic. He also had lived in McCook and Grand Island before moving to Inavale in 1980.
Survivors include four sisters, Betty Brooks of Grand Island, Fern Gray of Concord, Calif., Leota Collins of West Point, Calif., and Dorothy Gray of Modesto, Calif.
