Edward Dworak
ORD -- Edward Dworak, 85, of Ord died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at the Burwell Community Memorial Center.
Following cremation, inurnment will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Burwell Memorial Community Health Center.
Mr. Dworak was born on Oct. 4, 1913, in Valley County to Joseph and Mary (Zikmund) Dworak. He grew up in the Ord area, where he received some of his education.
He lived in Oregon for nine years and attended the Adcox Training School in Portland. He also lived in Washington for three years before moving to San Diego. He received aircraft training in San Homica, Calif.
He married
Clara Skutnik on Dec. 12, 1935, at Tucson, Ariz. The couple lived in California, where he worked as an auto mechanic and aircraft mechanic for the civil service.
The couple moved to Ord in 1978 and lived at Parkview Village. Mrs. Dworak died on Nov. 15, 1988.
Mr. Dworak was a member of the Scottish Rite and the Masonic Lodge. He was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include two sisters, Alice Naprstek of Ord and Evelyn Hackett of Grand Island.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, George; and two sisters, Irene Cetak and Alma Cetak.
John Haun
SPALDING -- John G. Haun, 85, of Spalding died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at the Boone County Health Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. The Revs. Frank Hoelck and James Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery at Spalding.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with rosaries at 5:30 and 7 p.m., Tuesday at Dolce Scheef Mortuary in Spalding.
Mr. Haun was born on Nov. 17, 1913, on the family farm in Wheeler County to Joseph J. and Mary A. (Herker) Haun. He attended District 19 School.
He then farmed with his father until joining the U.S. Army in February 1942. He served until October 1945 and received several commendations.
Mr. Haun returned to the family farm and lived there until his death.
He was a member of St. Michael's Men's Club and a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Survivors include five sisters, Bernice Kaiser of Spalding and Lucille Mamich, Dorthy Haun, Eileen Hinz and Mary Ann Wadge, all of Denver.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Angela Hewitt; and one infant brother, Raymond.
Melva Herbig
AURORA -- Melva Jean Herbig, 68, of Aurora died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Aurora. The Rev. Jay Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be in the Richland Cemetery, south of Marquette.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mrs. Herbig was born on Oct. 8, 1930, at Polk to Gustav and Mary (Matthes) Monson. She grew up in Polk, where she attended school and lived for 18 years.
She married
Donald Herbig on April 9, 1948, at Central City. They lived in Marquette. She began working for Hamilton Telephone Co. in 1962 and retired in 1990. She also worked part time at the Aurora Apothecary.
She was a member of the Aurora First Christian Church and was active in the CWF. She liked to travel, embroider and play cards.
Survivors include one son, Byron of Aurora; two daughters, Rhea (Mrs. Tom) Ohlsen of Hampton and Crystal (Mrs. David) Vettel of Decatur, Ill.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Donna (Mrs. Roger) Werner of Polk.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one granddaughter.
S.V. McClure
HASTINGS -- S.V. "Mac" McClure, 78, of Hastings died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Hastings. The Rev. S.G. Kessler will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview cemetery in Hastings.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings. Visitation will continue one hour before services Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to church or the Mary Lanning Health Care Foundation.
Mr. McClure was born on May 29, 1920, in Roanoke, Ala., to J.B. and Lula (Glore) McClure. He graduated from high school in Goodland, Kan., attended the University of Kansas and the University of Colorado and received his bachelor's degree from Miami University in Ohio in 1946.
He served in the U.S. Navy from March 19, 1942, to Dec. 21, 1945.
He married
Mary Jane Campbell on Jan. 11, 1947, in Wichita, Kan.
He began his merchandising career with W.W. Virtue in Goodland in 1937 and continued after it was acquired by the J.M. McDonald Co. in 1954. He spent 10 years in New York buying office and was named manager in 1956. He came to the Hastings office in 1957 as administrative assistant to the president and administrator of the J.M. McDonald Foundation.
He was elected company vice president in 1958 and senior vice president in charge of company sales, store operations and personnel. He also served on the board. He retired in 1981.
McCartney was a trustee of the First Presbyterian Church. He served as president of the Hastings Community Chest in 1968, was instrumental in building the J.M. McDonald Planetarium in Hastings and was treasurer of the Nebraska Committee for the Eisenhower Presidential Library in Abilene, Kan.
Mr. McClure and his wife enjoyed traveling. He enjoyed gardening and bird-watching.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Linda (Mrs. Harry) Argue of Middleton, Wis.; one son, John C. McClure of Columbus; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Annie Alexander of Huntersville, N.C., and Ollie Mae Hawkins of Davidson, N.C.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, J.B., C.S., William and Eugene McClure.
William Prochaska
RAVENNA -- William "Bill" Prochaska, 91, of Ravenna died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ravenna. The Rev. Steven Schlund will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery in Ravenna.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the donor's choice.
Mr. Prochaska was born on May 12, 1907, in Buffalo County to Frank and Barbara (Musil) Prochaska. He was educated at District 65 School. He farmed in Schneider Township.
He married
Betty Arnold on Oct. 22, 1941, in Kearney. The couple lived on a farm near Ravenna. They retired in 1976.
Mr. Prochaska was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Roger of Ravenna; one daughter, Sherry (Mrs. Ed) Foley of Kearney; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Jacqueline Scheffler
BROKEN BOW -- Jacqueline Scheffler, 78, of Broken Bow died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Keith Menter will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
