'Peggy' French
Marguerite "Peggy" French, 80, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in Phillipsburg, Kan. The Rev. Ron Lowry will officiate. Burial will be in the Fairview cemetery at Phillipsburg, Kan.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. on Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Agra American Legion and Auxiliary.
Mrs. French was born April 1, 1918, at Dayton, Ohio to Richard A. and Viola (Hampsher) Smith Sr. She married
Eugene French Jan. 5, 1946, at Phillipsburg, Kan.
She was a homemaker and lived a long time in Grand Island.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Pleiades Chapter 168 Order of the Eastern Star, both of Phillipsburg, Kan.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Joyce Fix and Margene Taylor, both of Grand Island; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her mother-in-law, Gladyce French of Agra, Kan.
She was preceded in death by one son, Thomas.
Richard Kraning
Richard R. "Dick" Kraning, 71, of 1224 N. Lincoln in Grand Island died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at his home after an illness.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Calvary Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dennis Reich will officiate. Mr. Kraning was cremated. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the family choice.
Mr. Kraning was born Feb. 21, 1927, in Grand Island to Henry and Katherine (Kummerzal) Kraning. He received his education in Grand Island schools graduating from Grand Island Senior High.
He entered the U.S. Navy on March 21, 1945, and served until July 29, 1946. He joined the Nebraska National Guard and served in Co. H 134th. Infantry Regiment until Oct. 18, 1951.
He worked as a firefighter for the city of Grand Island for many years.
He married
Ellen Foster on July 30, 1983, at Valentine. He served as a custodian for the Grand Island School System for 13 years before retiring.
He had been a member of Calvary Lutheran Church since 1974, a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the VFW. He enjoyed fishing and knitted sweaters, scarves and booties for many friends and family.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dean Webb of Grand Island and Clyde Webb of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four daughters, Faye Hansen of St. Paul, Debbie Downs of Grand Island and Lee Anna Kehn and Millisa Bourne, both of Arizona; five grandchildren; one brother, Don of North Platte; and two sisters, Norma (Mrs. Gene) Taylor of Lincoln and Barb (Mrs. Cliff) Wahl of Pace, Ill.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, David, Henry, Adolf, William, Raymond, Sam and Kenneth and two sisters, Evelyn Sutton and an infant, Rose.
Clara Wlaschin
Clara Stobbe Wlaschin, 80, of the Nebraska Veterans Home died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Don Larmore will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic cemetery at Rockville.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 Sunday at the church with a 7 p.m. rosary. Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Harriet Coble
BROKEN BOW -- Harriet Coble, 74, of Broken Bow died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
Services are pending with Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Charles Fuehrer
CENTRAL CITY -- Charles S. Fuehrer, 70, of Central City died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at home.
Services are pending at the Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Glenn McKnight
COMSTOCK -- Glenn McKnight, 64, of Comstock died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services are pending with Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Walter Luebke
PUYALLUP, Wash. -- Walter Luebke, 87, of Puyallup, Wash., died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999.
Services will be Saturday at a church in Puyallup.
Mr. Luebke was born to Herman and Gesine (Janssen) Luebke in Palmer. He attended school in Palmer.
He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He married
Ruth Jacob on Feb. 25, 1945. They moved to Tacoma, Wash. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service until he retired.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Carol; one son, Glen; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Wilhelmina Renken, Anna Simonson, Clara Dankert, Lydia Kamper and Rose Holtz.
Verne Barnard
ORD -- Verne LeRoy Barnard, 85, of Ord died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Mr. Barnard was cremated.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Michael Chase will officiate. Burial will follow the services at the Ord City Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Barnard was born Jan. 20, 1913, to William and Pearl Barnard at Ord. He was baptized into the Christian Church at the North Loup River near Ord. He was educated in Ord, graduating from Ord High School in 1932.
He married
Thelma Petersen on Feb. 17, 1937. The couple farmed in the Ord area for 34 years. They retired in the town of Ord. He managed the Ord Golf Course for 12 years. Mrs. Barnard died Dec. 27, 1988.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Other than his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant child and his brothers and sisters.
Mary E. Dubas
FULLERTON -- Mary E. Dubas, 98, of Fullerton died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at Litzenberg Long Term Care Unit in Central City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fullerton. Father Don Cleary will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a 7 p.m. vigil service and rosary at Palmers Funeral Home in Fullerton.
Mrs. Dubas was born Jan. 2, 1901 at Duncan to John and Katherine (Grsywa) Shefcyk. She attended parochial school in Duncan.
She married
John Andrew Dubas on Nov. 7, 1919, at Fullerton. They farmed near Fullerton. In 1936, they moved into town where she worked at the Coop Creamery. She later became a head cook at Fullerton Memorial Hospital. After retiring, she cooked and was a housekeeper for the priests and nuns at the parochial school and church in Fullerton. She also cooked for weddings and at Clara's Cafe. She sang in the church choir.
She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and St. Ann's Altar Society in Fullerton. In 1976, she was crowned queen at Fullerton's centennial celebration.
Survivors include a son, Raymond of Fullerton; four daughters, Angeline Rice of Fullerton, Leona Kurcz of Omaha, Mary Ann Goodman of Omaha and Sally (Mrs. Walter) Shotkoski of Lincoln; two sisters, Dora Robak of Duncan and Anna Darrow of Detroit, Mich.; 34 grandchildren; 91 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Eleanor Wozniak; six brothers, Joe, Charles, Andrew, Tom, Louie, and Leo; three sisters, Eva Balasa, Frances Dubas, Barbara Smajacz.
