Ella Haubold
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Ella L. Haubold, 83, of Fort Collins, Colo., died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at the Columbine Care Center in Fort Collins.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Grand Island City Cemetery. The Rev. Frank King will officiate.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until service time Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
She was born on Feb. 27, 1915, in Franklin County to Charles and Anna Pery (Lee) Haubold.
She received a bachelor of arts degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1936 and a master of science degree from the University of Denver in 1948.
She moved from Palmer to Longmont, Colo., in 1946. She was a librarian with the St. Vrain Valley School District for many years. She moved to Fort Collins in 1994.
She was a 50-year member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Longmont and a member of the Longmont United Hospital Auxiliary, St. Vrain Valley Retired School Employees Association, Colorado Library Association, Delta Kappa Gamma (women's teachers honorary) and the National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges.
Survivors include one brother, Glenn Eugene Haubold Sr. of Grand Island; and one sister, Verna Lee Haubold of Fort Collins, Colo.
Ellsworth Carlson
STROMSBURG -- Ellsworth Carlson, 80, of Stromsburg died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Stromsburg with the Rev. Jeff Thurman officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date in Swede Plain Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
Mr. Carlson was born on Dec. 12, 1918, on the family farm near Stromsburg to Claus G. and Nettie C. (Norton) Carlson. He attended District 44 School and graduated from Polk High School in 1937. He attended college for three years in York, then attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and received an agriculture degree.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following his return, he served as a Polk County commissioner. He later worked as a teacher in Stromsburg, Fullerton, Polk, Seward and David City. During the 1960s, he served as chief of the state's weed division.
He married
Phylis M. Scribner on May 29, 1976, in Columbus. He was also involved in farming and retired in 1982. He was an investment representative for Waddell and Reed Financial Services.
He was a member of the Fullerton Masonic Lodge, Stromsburg Lions Club, Farmer's Union, United Methodist Church, Methodist Men, CIP and Polk Legion Post. He enjoyed golf, reading, playing cards, watching CNN and was a loyal Democrat.
Survivors include his wife; three stepsons, Ronald Scribner of Omaha, J. Michael Scribner of Papillion and Gregory Scribner of Columbus; one stepdaughter, Debra Jean (Mrs. Bill) Mehaffey of North Bend; seven step grandchildren; and one brother, C. Gordon Carlson of Stromsburg.
Ted Chlopek
FULLERTON -- Ted Chlopek, 84, of Fullerton died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Don Cleary will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. vigil service followed by a rosary, Friday at Palmer's Funeral Home in Fullerton.
Mr. Chlopek was born on Aug. 17, 1914, in rural Polk County near Shelby to Frank and Adeline (Podraza) Chlopek. He moved at a young age to a farm in the Plum Creek area of Nance County.
He served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 22, 1941, to Feb. 10, 1942.
He married
Doris Hellbusch on Feb. 4, 1947, at Fullerton. He owned and operated the Community Feed and Seed store for more than 50 years.
He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and American Legion Post 151. He was a past member of the Fullerton Hospital Board and Taters Club.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Ted of Fullerton; one daughter, Susan (Mrs. David) Smith of Omaha; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three sisters, Eleanor (Mrs. Walt) Alderson of Venice, Calif., Agnes Frakes of Nebraska City and Veronica (Mrs. Tom) Shotoski of St. Edward.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Francis; and two sisters, Claire Redler and Esther Modelski.
Mary Dubas
FULLERTON -- Mary E. Dubas, 98, of Fullerton died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at Litzenberg Long-term Care Unit in Central City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Don Cleary will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. vigil service and St. Ann's rosary, Sunday at Palmer's Funeral Home in Fullerton.
Cecilia Fritz
SPALDING -- Cecilia C. Fritz, 92, of Spalding died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. The Rev. Frank Hoelck will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael's cemetery in Spalding.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Larkin Funeral Home in Omaha.
She was born to George and Mary Ellen Fritz.
Survivors include a brother, Michael Fritz of Carroll, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Veronica Volkmer and Henrietta and Bernadine Fritz.
Alice Sprague
FULLERTON -- Alice Sprague, 69, of Fullerton died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Jim Howland will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church.
Palmer Funeral Home of Fullerton is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Mrs. Sprague was born on Jan. 15, 1929, on a farm in Nance County near Fullerton to Maurice and Muriel (Mason) Myers. She attended Liberty Knoll District 16 School and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1947.
She married
Glen E. Sprague on Feb. 5, 1949, at the Federated Congregational Church in Columbus.
She taught at Whitney District 55 School for a year and worked for the Farmers Co-op Creamery for several years. She then worked for Kansas-Nebraska Gas Co. as a cashier until retiring in 1983 for health reasons and to follow her husband and his work.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Eastern Star and a charter member of the Fullerton Eagles Auxiliary. She became a Lady Shriner in 1988 at East Gate Masonic Lodge in Kansas City, Mo.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Scott of Ainsworth and Russell of Haysville, Kan.; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Mary (Mrs. Dale) Milby of Fullerton; and one brother, Harold Myers of Topeka, Kan.
Evelyn Svoboda
PALMER -- Evelyn M. Svoboda, 88, of Palmer, formerly of St. Paul, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at IHS/Community Care of America in Palmer.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul. Ellen Campbell and the Rev. Ken West will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Peter's Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or the family's choice.
