David Pritchard
LAUREL -- David Pritchard, 39, of Laurel died Jan. 8, 1999, at Providence Medical Center in Wayne.
Services were on Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Laurel. The Rev. Alfred Salanitro officiated. Burial was in St. Michael's cemetery in Spalding.
Schumacher-Hasemann Funeral Home in Laurel was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Pritchard was born on June 23, 1959, at Spalding to Mark and JoAnn (Schmidt) Pritchard. He graduated from Spalding Academy and Hastings Community College. He began farming near Laurel.
He married
Annetta Fritschen on Sept. 17, 1983, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. He worked for the city of Laurel for several years. He later worked for McCorkindale Implement Co. as a parts man.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a past member of the parish council and served on the church finance committee. He was also a member of the Cedar View Country Club board of directors.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Susan, Lori and Amy Pritchard, all of Laurel; his parents, of Spalding; one brother, Don of Spalding; and three sisters, Denise Spelic and Diane Pritchard, both of Omaha, and Dorothy Endacott of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister.
Bernadine Ewoldt
Bernadine J. Ewoldt, 83, of Grand Island died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Ewoldt was born on Feb. 4, 1916, in Hall County to Otto J. and Augusta (Schweiger) Dibbern. She grew up and was educated in Grand Island. She worked at Crick's Country Grocery Store in Grand Island for five years. She also worked at Kaufman's Department Store during the holiday season.
She married
Rudolph "Rudy" Ewoldt on March 21, 1934, at Hastings. The couple lived in Grand Island.
She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and the Platt-Duetsche Ladies Society. She enjoyed crocheting and playing cards.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia (Mrs. DeWayne) Grell of Grand Island and Sue (Mrs. Ken) Carnes of Aurora; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Her husband died in 1989. She also was preceded in death by a son, Richard; two grandchildren; two brothers, Harold and Carl; and two sisters, Dorothy and Margaret.
Rod Huebner
Rod Huebner, 65, of Grand Island died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Elmer 'Bud' Kearns
Elmer "Bud" Kearns, 78, of Grand Island, formerly of North Loup, died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Murry Johnston will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery at Scotia with military rites conducted by Ralph R. Rich American Legion Post 285 of North Loup.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

'Smitty' Schmidt
Earl H. "Smitty" Schmidt, 76, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Fred Gardner will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the United Congregational Church.
Mr. Schmidt was born on Nov. 16, 1922, at Central City to Henry and Sena (Mickelson) Schmidt. He grew up in various towns in Nebraska and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1939. He entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 12, 1943, served during World War II and was discharged on Feb. 23, 1946.
He married
Bernadine "Bernie" Reher on July 22, 1949, at Grand Island. The couple lived in Grand Island. He began Schmidt Construction in 1967. Prior to that, he was a manager at the talc plant. He also worked at Jacobson-Schmidt Construction and Mid-Plains Construction. He served as secretary and manager at the Platt-Duetsche from 1983 to 1985. He was elected Central Nebraska Home Builder in 1984.
He was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, the Platt-Duetsche, Veteran of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael Schmidt of Lincoln; a daughter, Lyn Ayn Schmidt of Spalding; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Laverna Reimers and Delores Steele, both of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother.
Lucille Smith
Mary Lucille Smith, 77, of Grand Island died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Herbert Schutte will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Sunday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Smith was born on May 31, 1921, at Creston to Leighton and Katherine (Sievers) Foreman. She grew up and attended schools in Petersburg and Albion and graduated in 1939.
She married
Charles V. Smith on March 16, 1940, at Bartlett. They lived in Albion and Ogallala until Mr. Smith went into the Army. She then stayed with her folks in Albion and Portland, Ore., where she took care of her sister Florence's children while she worked in the shipyards.
After World War II, she and her husband lived in Albion until 1950, when they moved to Grand Island. She worked at the Nebraska Veterans Home for 10 years. She then took care of some great-nephews and great-nieces.
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and was an avid bingo player.
Survivors include her husband; two brothers, Leighton Foreman Jr. of Phoenix and Robert Foreman of Grand Island; and one sister, Bernice Neighbors of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Velma Cooper and Florence Peterson; and a brother, Clarence Foreman.
Jack Abbott
Gibbon -- Jack L. Abbott, 61, of Gibbon died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon. The Rev. Barbara Spangler will officiate. Burial will be in the Gibbon Riverside cemetery with military rites by the Gibbon American Legion, Bradly Buck Post 310.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.

Mr. Abbott was born on March 18, 1937, in Chadron to James and Irene (McQuire) Abbott. He grew up in the Chadron and Ainsworth areas, attending school there. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1954 and served in Korea until 1956
He married
Cyrella Hardke on Feb. 25, 1963, at Rochester, Minn. They lived there for three years. They moved to Omaha, where he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. They moved to Shelton in 1984 and to Gibbon in 1989. He had worked at the Nebraska Turkey Growers plant for 15 years.
Survivors include his wife and a stepbrother, LeRoy Neal of Merna.
He was preceded in death by three stepbrothers and three stepsisters.
