Donald Omey
Donald L. Omey, 54, of Grand Island, formerly of Shelton, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River. The Rev. Jim Tooley will officiate. Burial will be in the Shelton Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Mr. Omey was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Survivors include his wife, Connie; one son, Shane of Hampton, Ohio; one stepson, Jeremy Clevenger of Grand Island; two daughters, Shanan Stoltenberg of Grand Island and Sheena Kurczodyna of Shelton; one stepdaughter, Stacy Judd of Arkansas; and three granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Inez Gist
St. Paul -- Inez E. Gist, 80, of St. Paul died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Michael McDermott will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m., with a 5 p.m. rosary, Sunday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Gist was born on March 28, 1918, at Academy, S.D., to Frank and Elizabeth (Ployhart) Benda. She attended rural schools in the Academy area and graduated from Platte High School in Platte, S.D. She later attended secretarial school in Mitchell and she worked as a secretary for many years.
She married
Floyd T. Gist on Feb. 12, 1945, in Sioux Falls, S.D. The couple lived in Omaha for 18 years before moving to south of Tulsa, Okla., for five years.
They moved to St. Paul in the spring of 1981. Mr. Gist died on Dec. 12, 1982, and Mrs. Gist continued to live in St. Paul.
She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and its Altar Society. She enjoyed playing the piano and leading the rosary at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul and was active in the St. Paul Senior Center.
Survivors include three sisters, Beatrice Carter of Platte, S.D., Ruby Johnson of Brandon, S.D., and Helen Schoonover of Sioux City, Iowa.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Benda.
Levi Goertzen
HAMPTON -- Levi B. Goertzen, 65, of Hampton died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at Henderson.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Mennonite Brethren Church in Henderson. The Rev. Stuart Pederson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Metz Mortuary of Henderson is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Mennonite Brethren Church Family Center or Henderson Health Care Services.
Anna Johannes
GIBBON -- Anna Mae Johannes, 76, of Gibbon died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at Clarkson Memorial Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Gibbon Faith United Church. The Rev. Barbara Spangler will officiate. Burial will be in the Gibbon Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Gibbon Emergency Unit.
Mrs. Johannes was born on Aug. 17, 1922, in Rapid City, S.D., to Lloyd L. and Anna C. (Wintrode) Lane. She grew up in Oelrichs, S.D., where she graduated from high school.
She graduated from the Methodist Hospital Nursing School in Scottsbluff with a registered nursing degree. She worked as a nurse in Hot Springs, S.D.
She married
William Johannes on Feb. 1, 1953, in Hot Springs, S.D. They moved to Scotts Bluff County, where he farmed and she worked as a nurse in several locations. The couple retired in 1984. They moved to Gibbon in 1992.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Jann (Mrs. Kim) Osborn of Edmond, Okla., Carol (Mrs. Kevin) McGregor of Gibbon and Paula (Mrs. Mike) Conrad of Fremont; seven grandchildren; and two brothers, Lyle Lane of Hot Springs, S.D., and Jim Lane of Omaha.
Ann Tomasiewicz
CENTRAL CITY -- Ann Tomasiewicz, 87, of Central City died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at Integrated Health Services in Central City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City. The Rev. Nelson Newman will officiate. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery.
A wake service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Solt Funeral Home of Central City is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Tomasiewicz was born on June 25, 1911, south of Genoa in Nance County to Thomas "Savage" and Julia (Iwan) Tomasiewicz. She was educated in rural Nance and Merrick County schools. She lived most of her life on the family farm northeast of Clarks.
Her father died in 1938, and she, her sister Mary and her mother continued to live on the farm. They raised chickens and tended a very large garden.
Her mother died in 1961, and Miss Tomasiewicz and her sister moved to Central City in 1967.
While living in Central City, she provided child care and crocheted rugs.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City and the Altar Society. She enjoyed crocheting.
Survivors include two brothers, Tony Savage of Central City and Louis Savage of Glendale, Calif.; two sisters, Helen (Mrs. James) Sellers of Houston and Kathryn (Mrs. Albin) Prososki of Osceola.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Savage and Francis and Joe Tomasiewicz; and two sisters, one in infancy and Mary Tomasiewicz.
Joyce Pritts
GUIDE ROCK -- Joyce L. Pritts, 71, of Guide Rock died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, in Guide Rock.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Red Cloud United Methodist Church. The Rev. Alvin E. Trucano will officiate. Burial will be in the Guide Rock Cemetery.
Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to Tabitha/Hospice or the church memorial fund.
Bethel Smith
STANTON -- Bethel May Smith, 82, of Stanton, formerly of Fullerton, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at the Stanton Nursing Home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Roy Cupples will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to service time Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Smith was born on July 6, 1916, in Nance County to Elmer and Mable (Sherman) Cunningham. She grew up in the North Star area and attended rural schools.
She married
Fred Ratcliff in 1934 in Fullerton, where they lived and worked for Davis United Shows. She owned and operated a cotton candy and apple machine for several years.
She then moved to Columbus and attended beauty school. After graduating, she worked in Columbus. In 1968, she moved to Omaha, where she owned and operated Beth's Mystic Beauty Salon. She retired in 1980 and moved back to Fullerton. She entered the Stanton Nursing Home in 1995.
She enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include two sons, David of Norfolk and Doug of Fullerton; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandson; one brother, James; and two sisters, Beulah Lawrence and Bernice Brown.
