Larry Morse
ST. PAUL -- Larry L. Morse, 57, of St. Paul died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Larry Lepper will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Morse was born on Nov. 17, 1941, at St. Paul to Clifford and Evelyn (Anderson) Morse. The family lived on a farm northeast of St. Paul, and he attended Howard County District 12 School. He later attended St. Paul High School.
He married
Bonita Hollowell on Jan. 28, 1963. The couple lived in Grand Island and later moved to St. Libory.
Mr. Morse worked as a brakeman for the Union Pacific Railroad from 1968 to 1994. He then operated the County Cage Bar in St. Paul until his death.
He enjoyed owning and raising thoroughbred race horses and was an avid Cornhusker football fan.
Survivors include one son, Brad Morse of St. Libory; one daughter, Sheila (Mrs. Dan) Barleen of St. Paul; seven grandchildren; his father, of St. Paul; three brothers, Gary of Grand Island, Roger of St. Paul and John of Omaha; and two sisters, Connie (Mrs. Ken) Obermeier and Sandi (Mrs. Mark) Witherbee, both of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his mother and one sister, Barb Tyson.
Berniece Rush
SARGENT -- Berniece B. Rush, 94, of Sargent died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at Goli Medical Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Samm Johnston will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery at Sargent.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Sargent United Methodist Church.
Ivan Pohl
KEARNEY -- Ivan E. Pohl, 79, of St. John's Good Samaritan Center in Kearney died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at the care home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney. The Rev. Russ Sommerfeld will officiate. Burial will be in the Shelton cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 297 of Shelton.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Pohl was born on Jan. 16, 1920, on a farm near Thayer to Frederich and Hulda (Marquardt) Pohl. He attended high school at Thayer and then attended a technical school in Omaha.
He joined the U.S. Army on Feb. 11, 1942, and served in World War II. He received a Purple Heart and was honorably discharged on Nov. 11, 1945. He then began working at Rasmussen Grain in Bradshaw.
He married
Hildegard Benke on Aug. 24, 1947, in Bradshaw. They lived in Bradshaw until 1963. They moved to Shelton, where he managed Turner Grain until 1978. They then moved to Lexington, and he managed Darr Elevator. He retired in 1994, and they moved to Kearney.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington. He was a past president of the Shelton Lions Club and a member of the Kearney Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was fire chief in Bradshaw for eight years and served on the Shelton school board for eight years. He enjoyed fishing, camping and was an avid sports fan, especially enjoying Nebraska football.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Linda Greene of Des Moines, Iowa, Karen Schmidt of Alda and Kristi Eichelberger of Kearney; one son, Ronald Pohl of Shelton; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Rose Reetz of Crete and Martha Tonniges of York.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Lila Engel
NORTH PLATTE -- Lila M. Engel, 70, of North Platte died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, in North Platte.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte. The Rev. Don Olson will officiate. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Grand Island City cemetery with the Rev. Dennis Reich officiating.
A memorial has been established.
Adams and Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Engel was born on Aug. 27, 1928, in Hall County to Ernest and Alma Sieber Dalgas. She graduated from high school in Grand Island and attended Kearney State Teachers College. She taught at a country school in Hall County in 1947 and 1948.
She married
Lester L. Engel on Feb. 14, 1948. They lived in Grand Island. She worked at Sears in the credit department until 1957, when her husband's job took them to North Platte. She worked at Hanson's Plumbing and Heating as a bookkeeper for a couple of years and then went back to work at Sears in the credit department in North Platte. In 1980, her husband's job transferred them to Lincoln, where she was a housewife. Her husband retired in 1986, and they returned to North Platte.
Her husband died in June 1989.
She was a lifetime member of the North Platte PTA and did volunteer work for the Nebraska Business Development Center after retiring. She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school for several years.
Survivors include a daughter, Jeanette (Mrs. David) McKoski of Omaha; a son, Barry of North Platte; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Jeanne (Mrs. Walt) Powell of Lincoln; and one brother, Verne Dalgas of Omaha.
Eva Carpenter
RICHARDSON, Texas -- Eva F. (Howell) Carpenter, 92, of Richardson, Texas, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at the Richardson Manor.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel in Colby, Kan. The Rev. Winfred Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Beulah cemetery in Colby.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel.
Memorials will be designated at a later date.
Mrs. Carpenter was born on July 16, 1906, at Danville, Kan. She was a retired school teacher.
Survivors include two daughters, Velma Dobesh of Grand Island and Lou Camp of Garland, Texas; five grandchildren; seven-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Velma Rohrbough of Colby and Lena Carson of Crescent City, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, C.A. Wilson; and her second husband, Elmer H. Carpenter.
Ancel Conaway
Ancel A. Conaway, 84, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services are pending at Simmons Mortuary in Smith Center, Kan.

Oliver Fackler
Oliver S. Fackler, 69, of 3005 E. Highway 30 died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate.
Mr. Fackler will be cremated after the services, and burial of the cremains will be at a later date in Fort McPherson National cemetery near Maxwell.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Kent Fisk
Kent S. Fisk, 23, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Harms will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
