Peter Jarzynka
LOUP CITY -- Peter E. Jarzynka, 100, of Loup City died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Revs. Reggie Urban, David Rykwalder and Michael McDermott will officiate. Burial will be in St. Francis Catholic cemetery at Ashton.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service, Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
Edward Kula
HASTINGS -- Edward J. Kula, 79, of Hastings died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at Perkins Pavilion in Hastings.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Butler-Volland Chapel in Hastings. The Rev. David F. Bourek will officiate. Private family burial will be in Parkview cemetery at Hastings.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice or the New Elks Golf Course Building Fund.
Mr. Kula was born on July 15, 1918, in Spring Valley, Ill., to Stanley and Mary (Drwieczky) Kula. They moved to Fullerton when he was a child. He graduated from Fullerton High School in 1937 and attended Hastings College. He moved to Hastings from Fullerton in 1937.
He married
LaVila "Vi" M. Ochsner on Nov. 15, 1948. She died on Dec. 25, 1996.
He worked for J.M. McDonald Co. for 14 years and KN Energy before retiring in 1980 after 26 years of service. He attended St. Cecilia's Catholic Church.
He was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge 159 and Knights of Columbus Council 1123, both of Hastings. He also was a member of the Elks Country Club, United Commercial Travelers and the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include one son, Stanley Kula of Huntington Beach, Calif.; four grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Stopak of Omaha; and one brother, Theodore Kula of Aurora, Colo.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Stella Kurth; and one brother, Alvin Kula.
Virgil Scofield
DANNEBROG -- Virgil L. Scofield, 78, of Dannebrog died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog. The Rev. Robert Carlson will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Donald Allen
EDDYVILLE -- Donald Edgar Allen, 67, of Eddyville died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at his home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Westerville Cemetery. The Rev. Phillip Morrison-Sloat will officiate. In case of inclement weather, services will be at the Westerville Methodist Church.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
A memorial has been established to the Sumner Rescue Unit.
Mr. Allen was born on July 29, 1930, at Ansley to William John and Loye Ann (Story) Allen. His family farmed in the Weissert area. He attended rural country school and graduated from Sargent High School.
He married
Joann Fox in 1949. They lived on the family farm in the Weissert area for several years before moving to Denver.
He married
Jeri Whitley on Sept. 10, 1975, at Yankton, S.D. They moved to Eddyville in 1977. He worked for Paulsens as a heavy equipment operator and later worked on the Glenn Rohde farm.
He enjoyed going to auctions and collecting junk that could be used for parts. He enjoyed hunting and guns, watching westerns and reading Louis Lamour books. As a young man, he raced Model T's every Sunday with friends.
He was a past member of the Eagles and a past member of the Eddyville Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Loye Redding of San Diego, Tracy Chavez of Denver and Jamie Bowden of Eddyville; three sons, Russell Allen of Georgetown, Texas, Rick Allen of Broken Bow and Gerald Riley of Lexington; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Michael; and one brother, Bob Allen.
'Toots' Jackson
RIVERTON -- Elva "Toots" Jackson, 80, of Riverton died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Franklin.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Church of Christ in Franklin. The Revs. Baron and Nancy Cole will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hutchins Funeral Home in Franklin. Further visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home and 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
Mrs. Jackson was born on March 11, 1917, on a farm north of Republican City to Claud and Emma (Schippert) Williams. She attended area rural schools and graduated from Republican City High School in 1935.
She married
James Alfred Jackson on Feb. 24, 1945, at Mankato, Kan. She taught at District 12 School south of Riverton. She also cooked at nursing homes in Inavale and Red Cloud from 1970 to 1984. Mr. Jackson died in 1986.
Mrs. Jackson was a member of the United Church of Christ in Riverton and the church's Women's Fellowship. She served on the board of Mid-Nebraska Services and the Ladies Community Club of the Republican City and Naponee area.
Survivors include one daughter, Ruth Jackson of Riverton; one son, Jerry Jackson of Loup City; one grandchild; one brother, Bud Williams of Grand Junction, Colo.; and two sisters, Lillian Rosenberg of Great Bend, Kan., and Betty Schroeder of Alma.
Harriet Scarborough
Harriet M. Scarborough, 67, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, at Lakeview Nursing Home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Greenway-Palmer Funeral Home in Palmer. The Rev. Delbert King will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery at Palmer.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Miss Scarborough was born on Jan. 10, 1930, at Kearney to Ira and Edith (Ferris) Scarborough. She grew up and attended school at Elm Creek. She spent 25 years at the Bethphage Home in Axtell and moved to Lakeview Nursing Home in 1990.
She enjoyed Grand Ole Opry music.
Survivors include several cousins.
Charles Dean
GIBBON -- Charles W. Dean, 77, of Gibbon died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, at the Hearthstone Care Center in York.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Shelton with the Rev. Timothy Parker officiating. Burial will be in the Shelton cemetery with military graveside rites by Shelton American Legion Post 297.
Visitation will be prior to service time Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church. Godberson Mortuary of Gibbon/Shelton is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Dean was born on May 22, 1920, in Shelton to Noah and Alice (Oblan) Dean. He grew up there and attended rural Shelton schools. He graduated from Shelton High School in 1940.
He worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant until entering the U.S. Army in 1945. He served as a longshoreman in the South Pacific and returned home in 1946.
He married
Frances Kilchenmann on June 1, 1952, in Fremont. They lived on a farm north of Shelton. They moved to Gibbon in 1970 and farmed there until his retirement in 1982.
He was a charter and lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Gibbon and Shelton and one of the first members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Shelton.
Survivors include his wife, of Gibbon; two daughters, Joan (Mrs. Richard) Majors of Sutton and Joyce Clauson of Gresham; four grandchildren; one brother, Edd of Grand Island; and one sister, Hazel Aurand of Chapman.
