Sylvia Elaine Kovar, 64, of Grand Island died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services are pending with Livingston Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island.
George Gallion
STROMSBURG -- George Gallion, 75, of Stromsburg died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at Annie Jeffrey Hospital in Osceola.
Arrangements are pending with Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
Aller Jorgensen
MARQUETTE -- Aller Jorgensen, 69, of Marquette died Friday Nov. 6, 1998, at the Veterans Hospital in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of the Higby Mortuary in Aurora. The Rev. Tom Smith will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Church cemetery at Kronborg. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
Mr. Jorgensen was born March 2, 1929, on a farm outside of Marquette to Joe and Cecelia (Williamsen) Jorgensen. He grew up in that area.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, during which he served on the destroyer the USS Rochester. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
He devoted much of his life to crop and livestock production in the Marquette area and O'Neill area. He and his wife Joyce owned and operated AJJ Boat Sales in Alma in the 1970's and early 1980's.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and had a great appreciation of nature.
Survivors include a daughter, Julie Jorgensen of Farmington, N.M.; a step-daughter, Gloria Case of Grand Island; and two brothers, Rodger of Longmont, Colo. and Clyde of Marquette.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald; a sister, Glenda Riblett and his ex-wife Joyce.
Harold Naeve
ALBION -- Harold P. Naeve, 77, of Albion died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. The Rev. Dr. Larry Spomer will officiate. Burial will be in the Rose Hill cemetery in Albion. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. officiated by Rev. Brian Bergum at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mr. Naeve was born Jan. 11, 1921, near Albion to Detlaf and Mary (Gerber) Naeve. He attended Boone County District No. 35 and graduated from Albion High School in 1938.
He married
Marie Dybdall Feb. 3, 1943, in Columbus. They lived and farmed near Albion until moving into Albion in 1980. He was then the greenskeeper at the Albion County Club before retiring.
He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, serving on the church council, building committee and various other groups. He also served on the Boone County District 2 school board and the board of directors at Harmony Homes.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors including boating, fishing, gardening and growing flowers.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Paul of Bowie, Texas; one daughter, Janice (Mrs. James) Kollars of Lincoln; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, John and Ernest; and three sisters, Margaret Wheeler, Bertha Gerber and Laura Pribile.
Sylvia Nielsen
AURORA -- Sylvia Nielsen, 92, of Aurora died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at Memorial Community Care at the Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Aurora First Christian Church. The Rev. Jay Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mrs. Nielsen, was born on Dec. 30, 1905, to Anton and Mary (Boilesen) Rasmussen at Elba. She grew up in the vicinity of Elba and was educated in Howard County and St. Paul where they moved. She worked for doctors in St. Paul and later the family moved to Dannebrog.
She married
Alvin G. Nielsen on April 4, 1925, at Denver, Colo. They farmed in the Dannebrog area until 1952 when they moved to Hamilton County. They last farmed where the Aurora Airport is now located. Upon retirement, they moved into Aurora. Mr. Nielsen died Sept. 15, 1982. She entered Memorial Community Care in Aurora on April 8, 1997.
She was a member of the Aurora First Christian Church and belonged to the Women's Circle and Fellowship.
Survivors include one son, James of Omaha; two daughters, Lila Doll of Gering and Betty Olson of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Donald Rasmussen of Cairo; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Marvin Nielsen; a grandson; three brothers and three sisters.
Harriet Radil
ORD -- Harriet Radil, 80, of Ord died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, in Omaha.
Services will be held at 10:30 am. Tuesday at the Ord United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jim Miller will officiate. Concluding services will be conducted by the Order of the Eastern Star Lodge. Burial will be in the Ord Bohemian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Harriet Radil Scholarship that will be established for Ord High School.
Mrs. Radil was born Jan. 16, 1918, in Valley County to James and Mary (Klima) Hrdy. She grew up in Valley County and graduated from Ord High School in 1935. She then attended Wayne State College and taught country school in Valley County for five years.
She married
Charles Radil Sept. 4, 1940, in Ord. They moved to a farm two miles north of Comstock and later moved to the Otto Radil homestead where they lived until Charles died in 1973. She then moved into Ord where she worked for the Nebraska State Bank for 10 years and also worked at the Fashion Boutique until it closed.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a past Worthy Matron at the Sargent Chapter. In 1965, she was an assistant to the Grand Worthy Matron Jean Steen of Sargent. She had also been a Grand Representative of the Order of the Eastern Star to Wyoming.
She was a member of the Ord Does and had held different offices. She was active in Area Extension Clubs and was a member of the Ord United Methodist Church. She belonged to TOPS and was on the Ord High School Alumni Scholarship committee and was an Ord Matron.
Survivors include two sons, Gary of Omaha and Dennis of Comstock; one daughter Janice (Mrs. Bill) Arnold of Beatrice; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Mildred Fleet of Winchester, Va.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Helen Kokes, Clara Beran, Agnes Beran and Frieda Vodehnal.
Maurine Welch
BARTLETT -- Maurine Welch, 89, of Bartlett died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Barlett United Methodist Church. The Rev. Cynthia Altstadt will officiate. Burial will be in the Bartlett Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Valley County Nursing Home or the Bartlett Rescue Unit.
Mrs. Welch was born Oct. 25, 1909, at Friend to Sterling and Myrtle (Olmstead) Aitken. She grew up in Friend and graduated from Friend High School in 1928.
She married
James Welch Aug. 16, 1928, in Belleville, Kan. They lived in Friend from 1928 to 1932 before moving to Champion, where they lived for two years before moving back to Friend. They moved to Barlett in 1937 where they farmed until 1959 when they moved in to Barlett to live.
She ran a small drive-in restaurant at Bartlett for two years. She retired because of arthritis.
She enjoyed gardening, caring for her flowers, singing and watching birds. She also enjoyed talking to friends and family on the phone.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Kenneth of Callaway; one daughter, Norma Fink of Broken Bow; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Bernice August; and two grandchildren.
Bobby Abraham
DETROIT LAKES, MINN. -- Bobby Abraham, 56, of Detroit Lakes, Minn., formerly of Grand Island, died in a one-car accident Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, near Wahpeton, N.D.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Community Alliance Church in Detroit Lakes, Minn. The Rev. David Sohl will officiate. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Dr. Abraham was born April 27, 1942, in Kerala State, India.
He graduated from the S.C. Seminary Marthoma School in Kerala, India. He did his undergraduate studies in Alwaye, India and earned a medical degree from Christian Medical College, Vellore, Madras, India in 1967.
He immigrated to the United States in 1970. He became a citizen in 1989.
He was a staff surgeon for the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Castlepoint, N.Y., from 1975 to 1980. He had a private practice in McCook from 1980 to 1988. He joined the staff of the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island in 1988 and was appointed Chief Surgeon there in 1991. In 1997, he joined the MeritCare Health System in Detroit Lakes, Minn., as a surgeon.
He also served as a consulting surgeon in Benkelman and in Oberlin, Kan., and Winfield, Kan.
Survivors include his wife, Usha of Detroit Lakes; a daughter, Nadia of Kansas City, Mo.; two sons, Andrew of Omaha and Mark of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; two brothers, M.C. Chacko and M.A. Oomen, both of India; six sisters, Dr. Mary Abraham, Aley Chacko, Dr. Sucy Jacko and Dr. Lizzy Zacharia all of India, Dr. Ruby Mathew of St. Louis, Mo., and Dr. Grace Abraham Kothari of North Brunswick, N.J.
