Walter Macintyre
BOULDER, Colo. -- Walter MacNeil Macintyre, 67, of Boulder, Colo., formerly of Wood River, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Valmont Community Presbyterian Church in Boulder. The Rev. Stephen Byrd will officiate. Burial will be in Scotland at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley or the Valmont Community Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Macintyre was born on Nov. 28, 1930, to Alexander and Agnes (Weir) Macintyre in Kenosha, Wis. He received his bachelor's degree, graduating with honors and his doctorate in chemistry from the University of Glasgow in Scotland.
He married
Elizabeth Hamilton on Aug. 18, 1954, in Scotland.
He joined the faculty of the Brown University Chemstry Department in Rhode Island in 1956 where he also worked with computers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and IBM in New York. In 1957, he went to the University of Colorado where he specialized in crystallography. He developed the CU Computing Center with Quigg Newton, president of the college at the time. He later became chairman of the center.
In 1973, he became the director and developed the National Institute of Medical Research Computing Division at Mill Hill in London, England. He became director of the State University of New York Computing Center in Buffalo in 1976 and participated on the Lax committee, which began the alternative computing center network that became the Internet.
In 1980, he returned to Boulder to direct the National Center for Atmospheric Research Scientific Computing Division. He left in 1983 to attend the New College Theological Seminary in Edinburgh, Scotland, completing requirements to enter the ministry of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland.
He returned to work at NCAR until his retirement in 1987. He served in the parish ministry of the Church of Scotland in Sanday and North Ronaldsday. In 1987, he became a professor of chemistry and director of the State University of Massachusetts at Amberst. He resigned in 1989 and became pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Holyoke, Mass. In 1991, he became pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Wood River. He retired from the ministry in 1995. He served as interim pastor for shared parishes in Sydney and Pinewood Springs.
Survivors include his wife of Boulder.
Arthur Welch
Chicago -- Arthur F. Welch, 67, of Chicago died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, in Greeley.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elba with the Revs. Larry Coulter and Robert Foster and Larry Fenton officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery in Elba with military rites provided by the Charles E. Martin American Legion Post 186 of Greeley.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with a vigil service at 7 p.m., Monday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. There will be no visitation Tuesday.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Welch was born Jan 22, 1931, in Chicago to Arthur and Anne (Foster) Welch. He was raised in Chicago. He attended Parker High School where he graduated in 1949.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955.
He married
Bernadine "Buzz" Wells on Dec. 18, 1951, in Elba. The couple lived in Nebraska for a short time before moving to Chicago where he served as a firefighter for 40 years. He retired in 1996.
After his retirement, the couple continued to live in Chicago.
He enjoyed hunting and was a member of the St. Symphorosa Catholic Church in Chicago.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Steven of Newport, N.C., Arthur and Jeff, both of Chicago; one daughter, Michele "Mickie" (Mrs. John) Consola of Frankfurt, Ill.; six grandchildren; one brother, Robert of California; and one sister, Elizabeth "Betty" (Mrs. Jack) Tsokatos of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard and Richard; and one sister, Marie Welch.
'Clint' Brooks
Herbert C. "Clint" Brooks, 75, of Grand Island died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Carl Rehwaldt will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Brooks was born on May 18, 1922, at Oxford to Ivan and Frannie (Bailey) Brooks. He grew up in Oxford. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1941 and then moved to McCook.
He entered the U.S. Air Force in October 1942 and served during World War II. After his discharge, he lived in Joliet, Ill., before moving back to McCook.
He married
Betty Gray on Sept. 6, 1950. The couple lived in McCook, where he worked as a shoe repairman. He later worked for the McCook school system as a custodian for 12 1/2 years.
The couple lived in Kearney from 1977 to 1979, and he worked in the Kearney school system. They moved to Grand Island in 1979, and he worked as a custodian at Starr Elementary School and Walnut Middle School until retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans Association.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Kenneth Brooks of Hastings; one daughter, Candy Brooks of Grand Island; two grandchildren; and one sister, Jean (Mrs. Elgin) McMahan of McCook.
He was preceded in death by two infant children, Clinton Raymond Brooks and Gloria Brooks; and one brother, Virgil Brooks.
Frank Sanchez
Frank T. Sanchez Sr., 76, of 1123 E. Eighth died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Max Armstrong
ST. PAUL -- Max G. Armstrong, 77, of St. Paul died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul. Ellen Campbell will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at St. Paul with military rites by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Armstrong was born on Nov. 12, 1920, at Farwell to Joseph and Bessie (Harvey) Armstrong. He grew up near Farwell and attended St. Paul schools, graduating in 1938. He then attended Hastings College and St. Paul Business College.
He worked in Oakland, Calif., in the ship yards and then served in the U.S. Navy from Aug. 25, 1942, to Dec. 18, 1945.
He married
Donna Ward on Dec. 31, 1946, at St. Paul. The couple farmed north of Farwell from 1946 to 1985, when they moved into St. Paul.
He enjoyed playing cards.
Mr. Armstrong was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 and Masonic Lodge 82 A.F. & A.M., all of St. Paul. He served 22 years as a director for the Rural Electrification Administration.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jack of Burlington, Iowa, and Doug of Scottsbluff; one daughter, Kaye (Mrs. Garry) Wells of Scotia; seven grandchildren; one brother, Dale of Salt Lake City; and one sister, Joah (Mrs. Bill) Knoeber of Denver.
He was preceded in death by two infant grandchildren and two brothers, Donald and Robert.
Ronald Heermann
BURWELL -- Ronald L. Heermann, 59, of Burwell died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Burwell. The Rev. Greg Volzke will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in St. Matthew's Lutheran cemetery at rural Wisner.
Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Heermann was born on Dec. 23, 1938, in Wisner to Harvey and Stella (Hledik) Heermann. He taught school and coached in Oakdale, Randolph, Ponca and Taylor. He refereed basketball and volleyball. He moved to Burwell in 1977. He was also involved in crop and hail adjusting.
Mr. Heermann was a member of Aid Association for Lutherans and the Nebraska Coaches Association. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his three daughters, Kristin Heermann of Largo, Fla., Janelle Heermann of Omaha and Rhonda (Mrs. Jeff) Messenger of Kansas City, Mo.; his mother, Stella Wehrer of Murdock, Minn.; and a brother, LaVerne Heermann of Oakdale.
He was preceded in death by his father.
