Jeanette McCarthy Stevenson
Jeanette C. McCarthy Stevenson, 46, of 2904 W. North Front died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at the St. Francis Medical Center Skilled Care Unit after a long bout with cancer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Hofrichter will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Robert Thein
Robert James Thein, 79, of Grand Island died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Martin Egging will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Thein was born on Jan. 16, 1919, in Omaha to Joseph and Rose (Cushing) Thein. At a young age, he moved with his family to Norfolk, where they farmed and ranched.
He married
Dorothy McMillan on Sept. 11, 1938, at Glenwood, Iowa. They moved to San Bruno, Calif., where he worked as a meat cutter. During World War II, they moved to Hastings, where he worked in the U.S. Naval Depot. Following the war, they returned to California. He retired after 41 years of meat cutting, and they moved to Clearlake, Calif. Following his wife's death on April 26, 1988, he moved to Grand Island.
He married
Dorothy Englehaupt Judge on Jan. 16, 1991. He worked with his brother Joe, making concrete lawn ornaments in Hastings.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was a great fan of the San Francisco 49ers, enjoyed shark fishing in the Pacific Ocean and hunting on horseback in the California wilderness. He also enjoyed playing cribbage.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Robert Thein of Clearlake and Ronald Thein of Pleasanton, Calif.; four stepchildren; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Thein of Pine Grove, Calif.; and two sisters, Mary Carlson of Lincoln and Ruth Wichman of Norfolk.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Edward Thein; and one sister, Margaret Fisher.
Russ Chaffin
ORD -- Russ Allen Chaffin, 30, of Ord died of natural causes Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Burwell. The Rev. Roger Gillming will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.
There will be no visitation. Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Chaffin was born on Jan. 27, 1968, at Burwell to Jerald and Rita (Anderson) Chaffin. He graduated from high school in 1986. He then served in the Navy for four years.
He had worked at the Cargill Elevator in Ord for five years.
He liked to hunt and fish.
Survivors include his parents, Jerald and Rita Chaffin of Burwell; and two brothers, Jerry Chaffin of Glenrock, Wyo., and Don Chaffin of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Herbert Schuett
CHAPMAN -- Herbert J. Schuett, 63, of Chapman died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Worms. The Rev. Karl Ziegler will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Schuett was born on Jan. 21, 1935, in Chapman to Henry and Bertha (Kruse) Schuett. He grew up and was educated in Merrick County and the Worms area. He served in the U.S. Army from April 17, 1956, to Oct. 17, 1957.
Mr. Schuett worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads and as a farm hand until becoming disabled.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church at Worms.
Survivors include two brothers, Herman Schuett of Chapman and Harold Schuett of Waller, Texas; and a sister, Irene Niedfelt of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Erma Travis
Central City -- Erma V. Travis, 85, of Central City, formerly of Fullerton, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at Litzenberg Long-Term Care in Central City.
Services are pending at Palmer's Funeral Home in Fullerton.
Bill Ferguson
Bill I. Ferguson, 57, of Grand Island died Monday, May 11, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., with a Scripture wake at 7 p.m., Thursday at Kleine Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Ferguson was born on Aug. 28, 1940, at Otis, Colo., to Clyde and Alice Ferguson. He grew up in Otis, Colo., was educated there and graduated from Otis High School in 1958. He entered the U.S. Air Force in November 1958. He served as a medic and assisted with the pathology lab until his discharge in May 1970.
He was a lab technician at Putman County Hospital in Green Castle, Ind., for four years. He then moved to Indianapolis, where he worked at St. Vincent's Hospital and attended school. He received his electronics degree in 1976. He worked for DuPont as a field service engineer in 1978.
He married
Lorraine Gawrych on June 30, 1984, at St. Paul. They lived in Omaha and later Grand Island. He worked for Dade Behring as a field service engineer.
He enjoyed the outdoors, golfing, hunting, camping, music, building and flying rockets and was an avid soccer fan.
He is a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and the Hyfliers Airplane Club.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Mark of Otis, Colo.; three daughters, Pam (Mrs. Stu) Totzke of Omaha, Deb (Mrs. Robert) Williams and Susan (Mrs. Doug) New, both of Grand Island; eight grandchildren; one brother, Oscar Hahn of Iowa City, Iowa; and two sisters, Lois Krumm and Linda Hahn, both of Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Laura Grigsby
ST. PAUL -- Laura A. Grigsby, 84, of St. Paul died Monday, May 11, 1998, at the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Rev. William Voelker will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda (Mrs. Gale) Lemburg of Farwell; one grandson; and one sister, Lydia Davis of St. Paul.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; one granddaughter; three brothers, Walter, Arthur and Ray Werth; and three sisters, Alta Hilligas, Emma Senff and Helen Clarence.
