Robert McCarty
MASON CITY -- Robert D. McCarty Jr., 70, of Mason City died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Bob Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with military rites.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Dave Davis Dave A. Davis, 28, of Grand Island died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Dennis Fiedler will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow cemetery with Rick Lenz officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Davis was born on Oct. 13, 1970, at Broken Bow to David C. and Mikki (Mooney) Davis. He was educated in the Grand Island public schools and graduated from Grand Island Senior High on May 22, 1988.
He married
Sherry Grettenberger on Aug. 17, 1996, in Grand Island. He managed Midwest Audio until its closing. He worked as appliance manager at Video Kingdom/Steve's Appliance Store.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Alisha at home; a son, Brian at home; his mother, of Spokane, Wash.; a sister, Christina Davis of Spokane; a brother, Brian Davis of Spokane; two grandfathers, Jed Mooney and Walt Davis, both of Grand Island; his father, of Grand Island; and a half brother, Christopher Davis of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Glennie Mooney; and paternal grandmother, Marion Davis.
'Dick' Hammond
Richard "Dick" F. Hammond, 73, of Grand Island died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, at Lakeview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. C. Roger Nelson will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Children's Home.
Mr. Hammond was born on Jan. 17, 1925, at Grand Island to Allen and Macel (Newton) Hammond. He was raised in Iowa but spent most of his adult life in Grand Island. He owned and operated Dick's Fourth and Eddy Conoco for several years. He suffered a stroke in 1981 and had been disabled since that time.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for 30 years.
Survivors include a one, David Hammond of LaVista; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
Esther Olsen
Esther Olsen, 91, of Grand Island died Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, at Tiffany Square Care Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Vern Rice will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Mrs. Olsen was born on July 8, 1907, at McCook to John and Mary (Webber) Brenning. She grew up in Grand Island and was educated at Lincoln and Howard schools.
She married
Frank Olsen in 1923 at Grand Island. They lived in Grand Island throughout their marriage. She was a homemaker. Mr. Olsen died in 1988.
Mrs. Olsen enjoyed sewing and making pictures.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by eight sisters.
Pearl Denman
DONIPHAN -- Pearl E. Denman, 92, of Doniphan died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at the Memorial Hospital Long-term Care Unit in Aurora.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Burial will be in the Doniphan Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Denman was born on Feb. 5, 1906, in Doniphan to E. Thomas and Mary Eliza (Orcutt) Kingston. She was educated in the Doniphan public schools.
She married
Clifford Denman on Jan. 31, 1925, in Marysville, Kan. The couple farmed west of Doniphan throughout their marriage. Mr. Denman died on June 11, 1981.
Mrs. Denman enjoyed cooking and baking. She was a member of the Doniphan United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Elvin Denman and Robert Denman, both of Grand Island; two daughters, Mary Ann (Mrs. Joe) Bowden and Lola Marie (Mrs. Bernard) Cosgriff, both of Doniphan; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Edgar, Willis and Everett.
Gary Nelson
KEARNEY -- Gary A. Nelson, 65, of Kearney died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church in Kearney. The Revs. David deFreese and Ronald Ebb will officiate. Burial will be in the Kearney cemetery with military rites at the graveside by American Legion Post 52, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 759 and the Kearney National Guard unit.
An honor guard will be formed at the church by past and active members of the state fire marshals, Buffalo County Sheriff's Department, Kearney Police Department, State Highway Patrol and Kearney Volunteer Fire Department.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney and prior to services Monday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the American Cancer Association.
Mr. Nelson was born on July 16, 1933, in Minden to Lloyd E. and Wilma (Bodle) Nelson. He graduated from Minden High School in 1952.
He married
Dorothy A. Norman on June 13, 1953, in Waynesville, Mo. Mr. Nelson entered the U.S. Army in March 1953 and served in the Korean War until being discharged in March 1955. He and his wife moved to Kearney in 1966 and were members of the First Lutheran Church. He worked as a deputy state fire marshal from 1978 until retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department and American Legion Post 52 and a past member of the Kearney Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Cheryl de la Motte of Omaha and Cindy Cagler and Diane Jones, both of Kearney; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Carlson of Minden.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ruth Rasmussen
ST. PAUL -- Ruth May Rasmussen, 82, of St. Paul died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Rasmussen was born on Nov. 6, 1916, in Nance County to Charles Herbert and Sadie Olive (Lewis) Miller. She was educated in Nance County.
She married
Andrew C. Rasmussen on Jan. 1, 1936, in Nance County. The couple lived in Nance County for a short while before moving to Merrick County, where they farmed. Mrs. Rasmussen worked as a cook in the Chapman schools for 23 years.
She had been a resident of St. Paul for the past three years. Her hobbies included quilting, cooking, sewing and crocheting.
Survivors include one daughter, Velma Land of St. Paul; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Delbert Miller of Central City; and three sisters, Elsie Arnold of Medford, Ore., Mary Parsons of Newman Grove and Leola Burkhardt of Palmer.
Her husband died in 1974. She also was preceded in death by one great-grandson and two brothers, Everett and Elmer Miller.
