Vera Baker
ST. EDWARD -- Vera M. Baker, 86, of St. Edward, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at the Butler County Health Care Center in David City.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in St. Edward with the Rev. Mike McInnis officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery in St. Edward.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.
Alice Coffey
ST. EDWARD -- Alice M. Coffey, 78, of St. Edward, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward with the Rev. Edward Gill officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward, with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Ida Coleman
BURWELL -- Ida F. Coleman, 88, of Burwell, formerly of Taylor, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent. The Rev. Roger Gillming will officiate. Burial will be in the Kent cemetery east of Taylor.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at Rhoad Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested at the family's choice.
Paul Coover
CENTRAL CITY -- Paul E. Coover, 76, of Central City, formerly of Polk, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at the Litzenburg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Polk with the Rev. Tom Thurman officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Solt Funeral Home in Central City. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
Mr. Coover was born on May 8, 1922, in Stromsburg to Edgar and Jennie (Stromberg) Coover. He lived and attended school near Stromsburg until 1932. He then moved to a farm six miles north of Polk and attended District 46 and High Prairie schools.
He married
Ida Mae Best on Feb. 12, 1944, in Belleville, Kan. He was a farmer most of his life and retired from farming in 1983. The couple continued to live on the farm north of Polk until 1995 when they moved to Central City.
Mr. Coover loved his family, farming, the outdoors and fishing.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Polk and also was a past trustee with the church.
Survivors include his wife, Ida Mae of Central City; one son, Larry (Beverly) Coover of Clarks; one daughter, Marlene Swanson of Central City; one sister, Genelle Stevens of Polk; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Everett Neth
BROKEN BOW -- Everett L. Neth, 91, of Lexington, formerly of Broken Bow, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at the Tri County Hospital in Lexington.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Cliff Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in the Custer Center Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Mr. Neth was born Feb. 8, 1907, at Emington, Ill. The family moved to Odell, Ill., where he attended school to the eighth grade. They moved to Nebraska and he graduated from eighth grade at Union Valley. The family then moved to Callaway, where he graduated from Callaway High School in 1927.
He married
Thelma Buckley at Ainsworth on Oct. 5, 1932. In 1936 they moved to the Custer Center community north of Broken Bow. They later purchased a farm southeast of Broken Bow. He also carried mail for 12 years, then returned to farming. In 1992 the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Mr. Neth was a member of the Custer Center Grange, Independent Order of Odd Fellows and served on the township board and school board. He also was a member of the Custer County Redistricting Board for eight years. He was a 50-year member of the United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma of Lexington; one daughter, Joyce Petet of Lexington; two sons, James of Wichita, Kan., and Kenneth of Pinellas Park, Fla.; eight grandchildren; four step grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eugene Neth of Mason City and Walter Neth of Ocala, Fla.; and one sister, Hazel Schneringer of Aurora.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Philip and Gerald; a granddaughter; two brothers and two sisters.
Ruth Lopez
Ruth A. Lopez, 5-month-old daughter of Mario and Irma (Rodriguez) Lopez of Grand Island, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Justo Montufar will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Ruth was born on May 24, 1998, at Hastings.
Survivors include her parents; a sister, Jennifer Rodriguez; and two grandmothers, Francisca Corea and Maria Trinidad Lopez.
James Moslander Jr.
James A. Moslander Jr., 73, of Grand Island died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Don Larmore will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, Sunday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Moslander was born on Aug. 26, 1925, at Grand Island to James A. and Mary Grace (Van Heuvel) Moslander. He attended grade school in York, Beatrice and Fairbury. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1945.
He entered the U.S. Navy in August 1943 and served as a medic on the USS Gen. T.H. Bliss in the European theater of operations. He was discharged in April 1946. He returned to Grand Island, then attended Creighton University for three years. He joined his father in Moslander Distributing in 1948.
He married
Joyce Bruning on April 22, 1950, in Grand Island. In his retirement, he worked for O.K. Liquor and Stuhr Museum.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, member and past exalted ruler of BPO Elks, past president of Nebraska Beer Wholesalers, member of the United Veterans Club, the Platt-Duetsche and a 50-year member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Pam Moslander of Grand Island; one son, Kelly Moslander of Dannebrog; two grandchildren; and one sister, Grace Frei of Grand Island.
Herman Burkhardt
GENOA -- Herman Otto Burkhardt, 87, formerly of Central City, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at Genoa Community Long-Term Care.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Central City. The Rev. Bradley Rick will officiate. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Solt Funeral Home of Central City is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Burkhardt was born on Feb. 14, 1911, near Palmer to Paul and Hildegard (Heinzig) Burkhardt. He attended country school near Palmer.
He married
Mae E. Zlomke on Aug. 31, 1934, in Grand Island. They farmed in the Palmer area for 20 years. Mr. Burkhardt worked at Lemmerman's Hatchery for seven years. They moved to Central City in 1962, and Mr. Burkhardt drove a maintainer for Merrick County until his retirement in 1976. He moved into Long-Term Care in Central City in 1996 and to Genoa Community Long-Term Care in January 1997.
Mr. Burkhardt was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting and his time spent farming.
Survivors include his wife, of Central City; three sons, Jerry Burkhardt of Palmer and Melvin Burkhardt and LaVern Burkhardt, both of Central City; five daughters, Gladys (Mrs. Charles) Lawrence and Nancy Allen, both of Vallejo, Calif., Betty (Mrs. Richard) Wetjen of Columbus, Karen (Mrs. Ed) Smith of Wellsville, Kan., and Shirley Kosch of Central City; 24 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ernest Burkhardt of Palmer; and two sisters, Milda (Mrs. Leonard) Eckstrom of Palmer and Freada Zimbelman of Caldwell, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Max, William and Christian; and one sister, Martha Kellog.
