ST. PAUL -- Edward R. Jarecke, 93, of St. Paul died Thursday, April 29, 1999, at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Services are pending with Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul.
Leona Stopak
OMAHA -- Leona T. Stopak, 85, of Omaha, formerly of Silver Creek, died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, at the Lutheran Home in Omaha.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Lawrence's Catholic Church in Silver Creek. The Rev. Dave Korth will officiate. Burial will be in St. Lawrence's Catholic cemetery at Silver Creek.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Friday at the church with a 7:45 p.m. rosary and an 8 p.m. vigil service.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the American Cancer Society.
McKown Funeral Home of Silver Creek is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Stopak was born on July 30, 1913, at Genoa to Jacob and Louise (Brezenski) Herdzina. She grew up in Genoa and attended Red Top District 58 School.
She married
Frank Stopak on April 18, 1934. She was a housekeeper.
Mrs. Stopak was a member of St. Lawrence's Catholic Church at Silver Creek and St. Lawrence's Altar Society.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Kuehn of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one step granddaughter; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and two sisters.
Richard Heinzer
RUSH CITY, Minn. -- Richard Ellsworth Heinzer, 55, of Rush City, Minn., died Saturday, April 24, 1999, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Fort McPherson National cemetery at Maxwell with military honors. The Rev. Kevin Lund will officiate.
Kleine Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Heinzer was born on May 29, 1943, in South St. Paul, Minn., to Raymond and Ethel (Ellsworth) Heinzer. He grew up in South St. Paul and attended South St. Paul High School. Before graduating, he left home to join the Navy. He later received his diploma from South St. Paul High School.
He married
Ruth Bodwell on July 17, 1969.
He was stationed throughout the eastern United States with the military and was deployed to several foreign countries while on board naval vessels. He served 20 years on active duty and two years in the reserve. He retired from the Navy in October 1990 at Norfolk, Va.
Mr. Heinzer moved to Minnesota in February 1991. He worked as a mechanic at Metro Lawn and Power of Maplewood, Minn., and at Plastech of Rush City, Minn. He lived in Minnesota until March 1999, when he moved to Nebraska due to failing health and to be closer to his children and grandchildren.
While living in Williamsburg, Va., he received a letter of commendation from James City Police Department for saving someone's life.
He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, carpentry, leather working, locksmithing and knitting. Before leaving Minnesota, he did lots of snowmobiling.
Survivors include his daughter, Regina (Mrs. Tim) Hofaker of Holdrege; a son, Richard Heinzer of Rush City; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Nancy (Mrs. Michael Sr.) Stanek of South St. Paul, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Raymond "Butch" Heinzer.
James Moseman
PORT ORCHARD, Wash. -- James L. Moseman, 52, of Port Orchard, Wash., formerly of Grand Island, died Monday, April 26, 1999, at Port Orchard.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Gollaher Chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the donor's choice.
Mr. Moseman was born on Jan. 4, 1947, at Lincoln to Verne and Lois (Ehlers) Moseman. The family moved to Grand Island in 1948. He attended Dodge Elementary School and Barr Middle School and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1965. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for a year before entering the U.S. Navy.
He served aboard the USS Constellation during the Vietnam War and was discharged in 1970. He returned to the university to work toward his architecture degree. He later re-enlisted in the Navy and worked as an air traffic controller at Jacksonville, Fla., New Orleans and Chicago. After his discharge, he moved to Montana and later to Washington state.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He enjoyed painting and was producing illustrations for greeting cards at the time of his death. He was an avid sports fan and participated in several sports.
Survivors include his father, of Wood River; one brother, Gary D. Moseman of Great Falls, Mont.; and a sister, JoAnne Voelker of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister, Janet Hinman.
Viona Harvey
Viona Harvey, 50, of rural Grand Island died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Fred Gardner will officiate. Burial will be in the Chapman Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Harvey was born on May 1, 1947, at the family home in Valley County to Oliver and Roena (Dunbar) Morgan. She grew up in Valley County, was educated at Loup City and graduated from Loup City High School in 1965.
She married
Donald Harvey on Oct. 2, 1965, at Mira Valley Church. The couple lived near Grand Island, where she was the office manager for Harvey's Appliance Co.
She enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Dale Harvey of Grand Island; two daughters, Donna Harvey of Grand Island and Debra Neel of Archer; two granddaughters; five brothers, Marlen Morgan of Brighton, Colo., Chester Morgan of Gibbon, Charles Morgan and Melvin Morgan, both of North Loup, and Galen Morgan of Lincoln; and six sisters, Arlene Woodring of Tacoma, Wash., Donna Bushee of Poinette, Wis., Ryta Hartzell of Page, Ariz., Neoma Placke of North Loup, Ruby Garner of Winner, S.D., and Gladys Maring of Callaway.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Merrilyn.
Mabel Hostler
Mabel J. Hostler, 88, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Eric Ford will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5 to 9 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
She was born on May 11, 1909, at Doniphan to William and Ruth (Cole) Hostler. She grew up at Doniphan and was educated at District 19 School in Hall County. She worked for St. Francis Medical Center, Douglas Grocery Store in Nehalem, Ore., Hested's and the Holiday Inn.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing flowers.
Survivors include three brothers, John Hostler and Bernard Hostler, both of Grand Island, and Glenn Hostler of San Antonio; and four sisters, Agnes "Ione" Hostler, Marie Gartner and Vera Smith, all of Grand Island; and Vina Bockerman of Hastings.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mamie and Elnora; and two brothers, Carl and Thomas.
