Anita Scheef
ST. EDWARD -- Anita M. Scheef, 76, of St. Edward died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at rural Genoa as a result of an automobile accident.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids with the Revs. Jurdon T. Counts and David Collins officiating. Burial will be in the Belgrade Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Wednesday at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
Mrs. Scheef was born on Jan. 11, 1922, at Doniphan to Everette and Lilly (Bell) Hert. Her mother later married
Jeff McPheeters. She was educated at Boone County District 15 School. She graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1939.
She married
George W. Carlson Sr. on March 21, 1942, at the Methodist Church in Albion. The couple lived and farmed in the Cedar Rapids and Belgrade areas. She was a teacher's aide at Plum Center Country School. Mr. Carlson died on Feb. 19, 1973. Following her husband's death, she worked as a cook at Schickels in Cedar Rapids and later at the St. Ed Cafe in St. Edward.
She married
Raymond Scheef on April 20, 1985, at the United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. They lived in St. Edward.
Mrs. Scheef belonged to a dance club and various card clubs. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids and the Women's Church Group and was a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include two sons, George W. Carlson Jr. of Cedar Rapids and Wayne Carlson of Lakewood, Colo.; a daughter, Donna (Mrs. Jim) Belgum of Atkinson; a stepson, Dean Scheef of Lexington; four grandchildren; two step granddaughters; seven step great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul McPheeters of Lebanon, Mo.
Her husband, Raymond, died in the same accident.
Raymond Scheef
ST. EDWARD -- Raymond R. Scheef, 84, of St. Edward died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at rural Genoa as a result of an automobile accident.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids with the Revs. Jurdon T. Counts and David Collins officiating. A committal service will be at 3:15 p.m. at Mount Auburn cemetery in Millard.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Wednesday at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
Mr. Scheef was born on Dec. 29, 1913, in Gretna to John C. and Catherine M. (Thompsen) Scheef. He received his elementary education at a county school in the Gretna area.
He married
Viola Fischer on Feb. 5, 1936, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Millard. The couple lived and farmed in the Millard area until 1962, when they moved to St. Edward. Mrs. Scheef died in 1977.
Mr. Scheef married
Anita Carlson on April 20, 1985, at the United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. They lived and farmed near St. Edward until 1993.
Mr. Scheef belonged to a dance club and various card clubs. He was a member and served on the board at Salem Lutheran. He served on the District 45 school board in Millard. He was a member of the Eagles.
Survivors include a son, Dean of Lexington; Elbert Anderson of Creighton and Sheila Choat of Albion, whom he served as a guardian parent; two stepsons, George W. Carlson Jr. of Cedar Rapids and Wayne N. Carlson of Lakewood, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Donna (Mrs. Jim) Belgum of Atkinson; two granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and two brothers, Walter of Gretna and Lester of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; a son, John; a sister, Myrtle Henningsen; and two brothers, Glenn and Robbie.
His wife, Anita, died in the same automobile accident.
Darwin Williams
CLARKS -- Darwin Robert Williams, 83, of Clarks died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bureau cemetery across from Pierce Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Hopkins officiating.
Mr. Williams was cremated. There will be no visitation.
Solt Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Williams was born on Oct. 22, 1915, near Clarks to William and Julia (Lumadue) Williams. He was raised in the Clarks area. He lived and farmed on the same homestead all his life.
He married
Lorraine Petersen on Nov. 5, 1938. He raised Angus cattle and was a lifelong member of the American Angus Association and the Nebraska Angus Association. He served as president of the Nebraska Angus Association.
He was a member of Pierce Chapel United Methodist Church and a board member for Bureau Cemetery. He was an Ak-Sar-Ben ambassador and a Merrick County Fair Board member for many years. He enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife, of Central City; two daughters, Marlene (Mrs. Richard) Friedrichsen and Karen (Mrs. Stephen) Miotke, both of Clarks; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Marvin; and a brother, Clark.
Donald Eberl
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- Donald I. Eberl, 65, of Grand Junction, Colo., died Dec. 20, 1998, at Aurora, Colo.
There will be no services. Mr. Eberl was cremated.
Mr. Eberl was born on Dec. 16, 1933, in Grand Island. He served in the U.S. Army.
He married
Norma L. Hair. He lived in Lincoln from 1972 to June 1998 before moving to Grand Junction. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include a son, Michael E. of Elizabeth, Colo.; a daughter, Elizabeth Basnett of Ravenna; eight grandchildren; his mother, Helen Eberl of Grand Island; and a sister, Mary Scheel of Salinas, Calif.
Ronald Gzehoviak
KEENE, N.H. -- Ronald A. Gzehoviak, 68, of Keene, N.H., formerly of Loup City, died Nov. 29, 1998, of lung cancer.
Services were on Dec. 4 at St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church in Keene. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery with military rites.
Mr. Gzehoviak was born on Nov. 9, 1930, in Loup City. He graduated from Loup City High School, attended Kearney State College and served three years in the Navy.
He began his career with the State Department in 1954. He served in the Recruitment Branch in Washington, D.C., and then began his Foreign Service career as a general services officer in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Beirut, Lebanon; Conakry, Guinea; and Hong Kong.
He met his wife, Alina, in Hong Kong. She was also in the Foreign Service. They served in various countries until 1986, when he retired. He accompanied his wife to Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, and Warsaw, Poland.
They moved to their home in Keene, N.H., in December 1996.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Pamela Gammans of Barrington, N.H.; two granddaughters; three sisters, Helen Gzehoviak of Loup City, Alice Louise Badura of Omaha and Loretta Bake of Ord; and one brother, Anthony Gzehoviak of Denver.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Valerie, Alberta and Lucille; and three brothers, Harold, Henry and Louie.
Dorothy Johnson
Dorothy E. Johnson, 91, of Wedgewood Care Center died Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, at Wedgewood.
Services are pending at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Glen Hendrickson
OSCEOLA -- Glen R. Hendrickson, 80, of rural Osceola, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998, at David City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Osceola. The Rev. Robert Berlie will officiate. Burial will be in the Osceola Cemetery.
Burial will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Kepner-Roberts Funeral Home in Osceola.
Mr. Hendrickson was born April 11, 1918, at Osceola to Frank and Laura (Timm) Hendrickson. He attended school through the eighth grade. He was a farmer in the area.
He married
Celestine Styskal on Aug. 7, 1940, at Osceola.
He was a member of the Osceola United Methodist Church and I.O.O.F. Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Shirley Johnson of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Dolores (Mrs. James) Anderson of Stromsburg; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
