Clara Sternecker
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Clara Sternecker, 89, of Alexandria, Va., formerly of Elba, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, at the Woodbine Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Alexandria, Va.
Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Ord Catholic Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Warner will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Sternecker was born Aug. 31, 1909, at Elba to Chas and Hattie (Frost) Sternecker. She had worked for the United States government in the Washington D.C. area for many years.
There are no known survivors.
Donald Hill
ALBION -- Donald Wayne Hill, 61, of Albion died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at his home while recovering from heart surgery.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Albion. The Rev. Terry Otto will officiate. Burial will be in New Hope cemetery at rural Monroe.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mr. Hill was born on Nov. 15, 1937, at Columbus to Wayne and Arletta (Civish) Hill. He lived with his family in the St. Edward and Monroe areas, where he attended county schools. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1955. He graduated from Norfolk Junior College in 1957.
He entered the U.S. Navy on Feb. 28, 1958. He served on the USS Alamo and was discharged on June 22, 1962. He returned to Monroe, where he farmed.
He married
Cathy Marie Adams on June 29, 1980, at the First Christian Church in Elm Creek. They lived in Albion, and Mr. Hill farmed until 1982, when he began working for Dan Bittner. He also served many years as the custodian at the United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Albion and the Methodist Men and was an active member of the Rae Valley Heritage Association. He was an active 4-H father and loved working with kids.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Ranelle, and one son, Byron, both at home; and one sister, Gayle (Mrs. Weldon) Woodward of Toddville, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather.
May Smith
CENTRAL CITY -- May Esther Smith, 93, of Central City died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Mrs. Smith's body was cremated, and services will be at a later date.
Solt Funeral home of Central City is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Smith was born on May 28, 1905, in Chicago to Niel and Lena (Olson) Olsen. She was living at Community Care Center in Central City at the time of her death.
Survivors include one daughter, Joan Taylor of Fullerton; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and one sister.
Agnes Howard
WAHOO -- Agnes Howard, 83, of Wahoo, formerly of Sargent, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, at the Saunders County Care Center in Wahoo.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent. The Rev. Marty Robbins will officiate. Burial will be in Madison Square cemetery west of Taylor.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Howard was born on Aug. 9, 1915, in Custer County northwest of Sargent to Howard and Julia (Fahey) Kamery. She attended Look Out School in Loup County and attended high school in Taylor and Anselmo.
She married
Jack Howard on Feb. 17, 1934, at Brewster. They farmed in Loup and Custer counties until 1962, when they moved to Sargent and operated a feed store.
Mr. Howard died on April 11, 1982. Mrs. Howard continued to live in Sargent until 1991, when she moved to Wahoo. She had lived in the Saunders County Care Center for the past year.
Survivors include three sons, Eldon of Grand Island, Gale of Bruno and Jerry of Omaha; one daughter, Elaine (Mrs. Dennis) Zurek of Omaha; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Paul Kamery of Sargent; and two sisters, Donna VanCura and Neolia Holcomb, both of Ord.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson and two brothers, Milford Kamery and Monroe Kamery.
Nikole Fox
GLASGOW, Mont. -- Nikole Ann Fox, 25, of Glasgow, Mont., formerly of Aurora, died of cancer Nov. 19 at Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow.
Services were on Nov. 25 at Bell Chapel. The Rev. Dale Carrick officiated. Burial was in Glasgow's Highland Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Norwest Bank for the Cancer Support Group and Relay for Life.
Mrs. Fox was born on Dec. 9, 1972, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Darwin and Vicky (Watson) Johnson. She lived in Doniphan and also in McGregor, Iowa.
She married
Chad Fox on Nov. 23, 1990, in Sioux Falls. They lived in Aurora for two years before moving in 1992 to Glasgow, Mont., where she was shipping manager at Stormer's and also worked for STAT Ambulance Service.
She loved accounting, collecting bears, hunting, fishing and being outdoors. She also enjoyed garage sales.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Kamra and Brittani, both of Glasgow, Mont.; her parents, of Nashua, Mont.; and a sister, Dawn Johnson of Nashua, Mont.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister in 1982.
Steven Ohlsen
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Steven E. Ohlsen, 47, of West Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Hastings, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. John Russell will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
There will be a private graveside service for the family.
Memorials are suggested to Westkirk Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Urbandale, Iowa.
Mr. Ohlsen was born on Nov. 29, 1950, at Hastings to John and Joyce (Havemann) Ohlsen. He graduated from Hastings High School and received a bachelor's degree from Hastings College in 1974.
He married
Lana Kay Hand on June 18, 1977, in Hastings.
He worked for Roche Diagnostics, formerly Boehringer Mannheim, a producer of diagnostic medical equipment for hospitals and clinics. He was Salesman of the Year and received many other awards, including the Journey of Excellence Award in 1995.
He was a member of Westkirk Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Urbandale, Iowa. He served as an usher and a member of the church's house and grounds committee.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Katie; his parents, of Hastings; and a brother, Greg Ohlsen of Utica.
Harold Townsend Jr.
LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. -- Harold J. Townsend Jr., 74, of Lake Oswego, Ore., formerly of Grand Island, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998.
Memorial services will be on Sunday at Lake Oswego.
Mr. Townsend was born on July 9, 1924, in Lincoln. He graduated from Grand Island High School in 1942.
He married
Jo Ann Woebbeking of Waterloo, Iowa. The couple moved to Lake Oswego to be near their daughter six years ago.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Betsy Fontenot of Lake Oswego; one son, John Townsend of Eden Prairie, Minn.; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Lloyd of Grand Island and Earl of Farmington, N.M.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Geddes and Thelma Peoples.
