'Bob' Bohl
SAN DIEGO -- Robert "Bob" Bohl, 70, of San Diego, formerly of Grand Island, died Monday, July 20, 1998, in San Diego.
Services will be on Thursday at Clairmont Mortuary in San Diego.
Mr. Bohl was born on Oct. 10, 1927, in Grand Island to Peter and Sofie (Koehler) Bohl. He grew up and was educated in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1945.
He entered the U.S. Army in 1946 and served for 20 years in the 82nd Airborne Unit as a paratrooper in Ausburg, Germany; Vietnam; Fort Bragg, N.C.; Fort Campbell, Ky.; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Fort Carson, Colo.; and Fort Smith, Ark. He was a master sergeant at the time of his discharge.
He married
Melva June Sharp on June 18, 1950, at Grand Island. They moved to California in February 1966. He worked for the San Diego Postal Department for 20 years until he retired.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Ben Bohl of San Diego; one daughter, Robin Nelson of San Diego; two grandchildren; one brother, Herman Bohl of Redlands, Calif.; and two sisters, Katie Beyersdorf and Helen Brown, both of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jon Stanley Bohl; five brothers and three sisters, three in infancy.
Henry Aldana
ALDA -- Henry N. Aldana Jr., 50, of Alda died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at the St. Francis Medical Center Skilled Care Unit.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Martin Egging will officiate. Mr. Aldana's body has been donated to the University of Kansas Anatomical Board. Burial will be at a later date.
A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Aldana was born on April 3, 1948, in Grand Island to Henry N. Sr. and Guadalupe (Soto) Aldana. He grew up and was educated in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High in 1967.
He worked for Leon Plastics and then worked at New Holland as a welder.
He married
Mary Potrzeba on July 1, 1995, in Grand Island.
His hobbies included fishing, camping, hunting and traveling.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Eagles Club and the Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Angela Aldana of Sioux City, Iowa; two sons, Nicholas Aldana of South Dakota and Anthony Aldana of Grand Island; three stepdaughters, Bridget Barger, Rachel Barger and Michelle Aldana, all of Alda; his mother, Lupe Aldana of Grand Island; three brothers, Jerry and John, both of Grand Island, and Felix of Hastings; and two sisters, Peggy Florez of Grand Island and Virgie Wheeler of Las Vegas.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter and his father.
Luella Baxter
KEARNEY -- Luella Baxter, 84, of Kearney died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, at St. John's Good Samaritan Center in Kearney.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home. The Rev. Bob Wine will officiate. Graveside services and burial will be at 3 p.m. at the Stockville Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Baxter was born on Feb. 19, 1914, in Farnam to Martin and Ethel Babcock. She lived in the Farnam area.
She married
Eugene Baxter on Dec. 19, 1934, in Oberlin, Kan.
They lived in Stockville before moving to Kearney. She worked with her husband as office manager for Interstate Stations. After retiring, she worked with her husband at Baxter Auto Repair in Kearney.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Dudley of Grand Island; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Carl Gartner
HASTINGS -- Carl E. Gartner, 80, of Hastings died of cancer Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Butler-Volland Chapel in Hastings. The Rev. Tim Wiggins will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City cemetery with military rites.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Gartner was born on April 11, 1918, east of Pauline to Peter and Maggie (Trauernicht) Gartner. He grew up on the family farm near Pauline and attended District 26 School.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served aboard the USS LST No. 269 in the South Pacific from 1943 to 1945.
He married
Evelyne Menagh Rhodes on Sept. 20, 1954, in Lincoln. They lived on a farm near Glenvil for five years. They then moved to Fairfield but continued to farm for four years.
He later started a tree removal business and moved to Hastings in 1971.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at Glenvil and of American Legion Post 11 in Hastings.
Survivors include his wife; one stepson, Floyd Rhodes of Fairfield; one son, Glen Gartner of Grand Island; one daughter, Sherri Peterson of Lakewood, Colo.; five grandchildren; and three brothers, Herman and Paul of Hastings and Herbert of Auburn, Wash.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walt and Raymond Gartner; and three sisters, Marie Phillips, Freida Gartner and Ella Hinrichs.
Clarence Kuster
RAVENNA -- Clarence W. Kuster, 84, of Ravenna died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in North Shelton. The Rev. Jack Heck will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna.
Memorials are suggested to the church or "The Lutheran Hour."
Mr. Kuster was born on Nov. 27, 1914, to Charles and Elizabeth "Louise" (Holtz) Kuster. He was educated at Zion Parochial School and the Grand Island Business School.
He farmed north of Shelton his entire life.
He married
Martha Schinkel on March 19, 1983.
Mr. Kuster was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in North Shelton and was caretaker of the church cemetery for several years.
Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Paul Schinkel of Pleasanton and Eldon Schinkel of Kearney; three stepdaughters, Elnida Chandler of Pleasanton, Karen Krajnik of Malcolm and Janis Keller of Martinsburg; and 14 step grandchildren.
Robert McIntyre
PRIMROSE -- Robert McIntyre, 73, of Primrose died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at his daughter's home in Lincoln.
Services are pending at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Velma Meese
ORD -- Velma Meese, 96, of Ord died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Rev. Jim Warner will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's School or the donor's choice.
Mrs. Meese was born on May 18, 1902, east of Ord in Valley County to W.H. and Nancy (Timmerman) Cronk. She attended Plain Valley School. She worked as a telephone operator at Ord for a number of years.
She married
John T. Meese on Feb. 23, 1922, at Ord. They lived on a farm east of Ord until 1952, when they moved into Ord. Mr. Meese died on Dec. 12, 1976.
Mrs. Meese was a member of the Altar Society. She enjoyed flowers and music.
Survivors include three daughters, Adelene Absalon of Falls Church, Va., Mildred Christoffersen of Clayton, Ga., and Charlotte Meese of Ord; one son, Bill Meese of Ord; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Ray Meese; six sisters and three brothers.
