Merl Beekman
HOTCHKISS, Colo. -- Merl Raymond Beekman, 76, of Hotchkiss, Colo., formerly of Grand Island, died Nov. 23, 1998, in the Delta County Memorial Hospital.
Services were on Dec. 4 at the United Methodist Church in Hotchkiss. The Rev. Judi Taylor officiated.
Taylor Funeral Service of Hotchkiss was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Beekman was born on Feb. 7, 1922, in Doniphan to Jacob and Mary (Harshfield) Beekman. He spent his childhood in Grand Island until joining the Civilian Conservation Corps.
During World War II, he served in the United States Army.
Mr. Beekman married
Bernadine E. "Cass" Knight on Sept. 2, 1947, in Grand Island.
The Beekmans moved in 1975 from Leadville to Hotchkiss, where he lived for 23 years. He was a retired hard rock miner.
His favorite hobby was farming on his 30 acres near Hotchkiss. He was an avid reader and liked to play cards.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Monty Beekman of Cripple Creek, Colo.; one brother, Willis Beekman of Grand Island; and one sister, Alice James of Wolbach.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Marvin, Arnold, Dale, Robert and Vernon; and two sisters, Verna Burkhart and Ruby James.
Marjorie Cummings
OMAHA -- Marjorie C. Cummings, 67, of Omaha died Dec. 9, 1998, in Omaha.
Memorial services will be at a later date. Private burial will be in Fort McPherson cemetery at Maxwell.
There will be no visitation. Heafey-Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler West Center Chapel of Omaha is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Survivors include one sister, Shirley Marsh of Grand Island; and one brother, Richard Casteel of Kilgore.
Ethel Perkins
Ethel E. Perkins, 83, of Grand Island died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, at Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home with the Rev. Julie Bringelson officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army Christmas Fund.
Mrs. Perkins was born on Jan. 26, 1914, in Grand Island to Albert and Elsie (Harris) VanBibber. She grew up and received her education in Grand Island.
She married
Francis Perkins on Feb. 19, 1927, at Polk. They lived in Polk until moving to Grand Island in 1937. She worked as a nurse's aide at the Nebraska Veterans Home until retiring on Oct. 5, 1972.
She was active in the Salvation Army Home League, Trinity United Methodist Church, Eastside Chapel and Roberta Rice Group.
Survivors include three sons, Francis J., Kenneth and Jimmie Perkins, all of Grand Island; two daughters, Maude Walters and Patty Calvo, both of Grand Island; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and three sisters, Grace Stockman of Grand Island, Evelyn Steele of Pueblo, Colo., and Frances Balcom of Portland, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1953; two sons, Charles Perkins and Richard Bennett; three sisters; five brothers; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Josephine Bremer
ST. EDWARD -- Josephine E. Bremer, 83, of St. Edward died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services are pending with Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
L. Clark Caley
CLARKS -- L. Clark Caley, 64, of Clarks died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at St. Francis Skilled Care.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Clarks with the Rev. LaQuita McKibbin officiating. Burial will be in the Clarks Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Richard Guzinski
LOUP CITY -- Richard P. Guzinski, 50, of Loup City died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Reggie Urban will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery in Loup City.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Peters Funeral Home in Loup City and will continue from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service.
Memorials are suggested to the American Brain Tumor Association.
Alex Reinhardt
CAIRO -- Alex Reinhardt, 81, of Cairo died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Cairo United Methodist Church with the Rev. Alan Davis officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Apfel Funeral Home in Cairo.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the senior center in Cairo.
Mr. Reinhardt was born Oct. 27, 1916, in Lincoln to George and Mollie (Chkirmar) Reinhardt. He was educated in Lexington.
He married
Viola Leirman on Sept. 30, 1939, in Norton, Kan. They farmed in the Wood River and Cairo area until retiring in 1978, when they moved to Cairo. Mrs. Reinhardt died in August 1997.
He was a member of the Cairo United Methodist Church, a golden member of the Eagles and a Platt-Duetsche member.
Survivors include two sons, Jim of Grand Island and Jerry of Cairo; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-brothers, Ed Reinhardt of McMinnville, Ore., and Al Weil of Grand Island; two sisters, Mary Allan of Cairo and Freida Schneider of Cozad.
He was preceded in death by his wife; one brother, George; one sister, Molly Lemburg; and one great-grandson.
Mildred Stewart
ALBION -- Mildred L. Stewart, 88, of Albion died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Church of Christ in Albion with the Rev. Mary Avidano officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery at Albion.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Edna Sundberg
STROMSBURG -- Edna M. Sundberg, 96, of Stromsburg, formerly of Polk, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Baptist Church in Polk with the Rev. Roger Burke officiating. Burial will be in the Lindale cemetery near Hordville.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Solt Funeral Home in Polk.
