Dale Francisco
MINDEN -- H. Dale Francisco, 83, of Minden died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden. The Rev. Ed Treat will officiate. Burial will be in Hildreth Cemetery.
Layton Funeral Home of Minden is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Francisco was born on May 16, 1915, on a farm east of Hastings to Roy and Pearl (Clark) Francisco. He attended school in the Hastings area. His family moved to Minden, and he attended Minden High School through the 11th grade.
He married
Helen Stuehm on Dec. 25, 1937, in Columbus. He farmed in the Minden area, then moved to Kearney and worked for Culligan. They moved back to Minden. Mr. Francisco was custodian at Minden High School and then worked for Continental Grain for 20 years.
He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden and Buffalo Odd Fellow Lodge in Kearney. They were members of all units of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Nebraska, with Mr. Francisco serving as grand master of Nebraska in 1988-89.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Sharon (Mrs. Paul) Lippstreu of Wilcox; one son, Gaylon Francisco of Minden; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
May Goehring
OMAHA -- May E. Goehring, 86, of Omaha, formerly of Grand Island, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at Elkhorn Manor in Elkhorn.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to service time Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
Mrs. Goehring was born on Sept. 10, 1912, at Grand Island to Fred and Ella (Deichman) Bergholz. She was educated and grew up in Grand Island.
She married
Richard M. Goehring on June 15, 1930, at Grand Island. They lived in Grand Island until 1946, when they moved to Hastings. They moved to Omaha in 1954. She worked for Immanuel Hospital as a ward secretary for 15 years.
Mr. Goehring died on Nov. 25, 1964. Mrs. Goehring had lived at Elkhorn Manor for four years.
She was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha and the Women's Circle. She enjoyed quilting, ceramics, reading and making pictures from sea shells or old jewelry.
Survivors include two sons, Gary of Omaha and Richard of Hastings; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Maybelle Stoltenberg of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Frieda Rauert and Rose Scheffel.
David Kumm
THORNTON, Colo. -- Memorial services for David Allen Kumm, 36, of Thornton, Colo., will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Church of the Nazarene in Brighton, Colo.
Mr. Kumm died on March 3, 1999, in Thornton. He was cremated.
Platte Valley Mortuary of Brighton is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the David Kumm Memorial Fund.
Mr. Kumm was born on Oct. 30, 1962, in Norfolk to Vernon and Berneice Kumm. He managed a computer company. He had lived in the Thornton area for eight years.
Survivors include his wife, Tammi; two daughters, Heather and Nicholl Kumm of Thornton, Colo.; his mother, of Grand Island; a brother, Steven Kumm of Phoenix; four sisters, Faye Conlon of Grand Island, Linda Hokanson of Lakewood, Colo., Susan Crume of Fort Collins, Colo., and Melanie Kumm of Lincoln; and his grandmother, Irene Rafert of Amherst, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Helen Yetter
SAN ANTONIO -- Helen M. Yetter, 88, of San Antonio, formerly of Fullerton, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at Morningside Manor in Texas.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Ken McQueen will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Morningside Ministries in San Antonio or the Fullerton United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Yetter was born on July 31, 1910, on a farm near Malcolm to David Eugene and Hattie Belle (Mann) Butcher. The family later moved to Lincoln, where she grew up and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1927. She worked at Miller and Paine in Lincoln and completed a dairy course at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Agriculture College.
She married
Ernest Yetter on April 12, 1932, and moved to Fullerton. She held various leadership roles in the United Methodist Church, Eastern Star and PEO. She served for many years as the mother adviser of the Fullerton Assembly of the Order of Rainbow for Girls. Before there was a Fullerton swimming pool, she and others would take carloads of girls to swimming lessons.
She loved her flowers and garden.
Mr. Yetter died in August 1988. Mrs. Yetter moved to San Antonio to be near her daughter.
Survivors include her daughter, Jacqueline (Mrs. John C.) Schmidt of San Marcos, Texas; and two nieces and two nephews, including Lyle "Joe" Holmes of Central City.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Butcher Webber.
Sophie Strohl
Sophie Strohl, 79, of Grand Island died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, in a fire at her home.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Phyllis Wright
Phyllis J. Wright, 76, of Grand Island died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. C. Roger Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Wasmer Elementary School library.
Mrs. Wright was born on Sept. 2, 1921, at Sioux City, Iowa, to Leslie and Ethel (Albert) Quintard. She grew up in Lawton, Iowa, was educated in Lawton schools and attended Wayne State College.
She married
Paul A. Wright on March 20, 1946, at Lawton, Iowa. The couple lived in Grand Island. She worked as a library aide with the Grand Island Public Schools for 20 years.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Merry Maid Extension Club. She enjoyed bowling and playing cards.
Survivors include three daughters, Paula (Mrs. Paul) Crandell of LeMars, Iowa, Penny (Mrs. Steve) Jones of Mason City and Patti Wright of Omaha; five grandchildren; and one brother, Leslie Quintard Jr. of Sioux Falls, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Arthur Burkhardt
PALMER -- Arthur B. Burkhardt, 90, of Palmer died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at Community Care of America in Palmer.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer. The Rev. Robert Schilling will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Palmer.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Greenway-Palmer Funeral Home in Palmer.
Memorials are suggested to the St. John's Lutheran Church Building Fund.
Mr. Burkhardt was born on April 25, 1907, in Howard County to Bruno and Whilimina (Kruse) Burkhardt. He grew up in Howard County and attended county schools and St. John's School.
He married
Elsie Zlomke on Oct. 1, 1934. They farmed west of Palmer until 1944, when they moved to the Lambert Ranch near Palmer. He worked at the ranch for 25 years.
He then worked at Lemmerman Farms for 13 years. Mrs. Burkhardt died on Dec. 18, 1967. Mr. Burkhardt had spent the past five years at Coolidge Nursing Home in Palmer.
He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer. He enjoyed farming, raising livestock, horse shoes and playing sheepshead.
Survivors include four daughters, Darlene (Mrs. Delbert) Miller of Central City, Evelyn Peetz of Palmer, Donna (Mrs. Harold) Berst of Crete and Carolyn Janke of St. Paul; five sons, Dale of Seward, Robert of Palmer, Gene of Grand Island, Gary of St. Paul and Ricky of Central City; 27 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Meta Lawrence of Palmer and Edna Feddersen of Chapman; and two brothers, Bruno of Palmer and Otto of Eugene, Ore.
He was preceded in death by four grandchildren; four brothers, Richard, Hugo, Harry and Fred; and one sister, Clara Eckstrom.
