'Jack' Russell
FULLERTON -- John W. "Jack" Russell, 74, of Fullerton died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Fullerton. The Revs. Mary McQueen and Clarence Conkey will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Palmer's Funeral Home of Fullerton is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Russell was born on Feb. 20, 1924, at Fullerton to John T. and Jessie (Whitney) Russell. He attended Fullerton Public School and graduated in 1942.
He served overseas in World War II.
He married
Dorothy Davis on Aug. 14, 1949, in Fullerton. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Pharmacy in 1952. He worked in Aurora for a year and then purchased the former Williams Drug Co. in Fullerton. He operated Russell Drug Store until 1986. He served on the board of directors of the First National Bank and was chairman of the board at the time of his death.
He was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church, Fullerton Legion Post 151, Tatters, University of Nebraska Alumni Association, Touchdown Club and Nebraska Pharmaceutical Association, a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and a past member of the chamber of commerce. He served on the Fullerton school board, was a volunteer firefighter and was treasurer for the Fullerton Alumni Association.
He liked to travel, garden, attend Nebraska football games, Fonner Park races and his grandchildren's activities.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John of Fullerton and Tim of Hastings; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Russell of Fullerton and Jean Young of Deerfield, Ill.
Hal Smith
HASTINGS -- Hal C. Smith Sr., 75, of Hastings died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hastings. The Rev. Max Hale will officiate. Private family interment will be at a later date.
Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Smith was born on Sept. 11, 1922, in Hastings to Roy and Florence (Ragland) Smith. He attended Hastings Public Schools and graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1940.
He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946 in the African and European theaters.
He married
Margery M. Galley in 1944 in Hastings. He graduated from Hastings College in 1944. After the service, he returned to Hastings and began working for General Credit Corp., which later became Hal Smith Insurance. The business was sold to Bornemeier Insurance in 1984.
Mr. Smith was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, serving as a deacon. He was a life member of the American Legion, UCT, Lochland Country Club and American Contract Bridge League. He also was past treasurer of the Kiwanis Club and served on the Lochland Realty Board. He was instrumental in starting Southern Hill Country Club.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Hal C. Smith Jr. of Hastings and Gene Smith of Grand Island; one daughter, Lori Wilson of Lincoln; four grandchildren; and one brother, Lloyd Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo.
Anna Harris
Neligh -- Anna Marie Harris, 86, of Neligh, formerly of Albion, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion. The Rev. Will Spenner will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion and after 7 p.m. Thursday at the church, with wake services at 8 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until service time Friday.
Mrs. Harris was born on July 26, 1911, on a farm west of Osmond to Mathias and Anna Marie (Wlaschin) Petsche. The family lived near Osmond until she was 6 years old. They then lived at Spalding for two years before moving to Elgin. She attended elementary school at Osmond, Spalding and St. Boniface's Parochial School in Elgin. She graduated from Elgin Public High School in 1930.
She married
Ralph Harris on Feb. 23, 1933, at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church in Raeville. They lived and farmed south of Albion, where she worked as a homemaker. Mr. Harris died on April 17, 1984. Mrs. Harris moved into Albion in October 1984 and lived there until January 1997, when she moved to Neligh to live with her sister.
She was an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir and served as a lector and communion minister. She served as deanery president of the Archdiocese of Catholic Women's Council. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens Center, attended several Bible study groups and enjoyed playing cards in several area clubs.
Survivors include two brothers, Lawrence Petsche of Petersburg and Stanley Petsche of Albion; and three sisters, Hildegard Wolken of Brighton, Colo., Adella Wier of Palm Dale, Calif., and Florence Knievel of Neligh.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Richard; and one sister, Frances.
Earle Baade
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Earle E. Baade, 81, of Colorado Springs, Colo., died June 4, 1998, in Colorado Springs.
Services were on Monday in Colorado Springs with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Baade was born on Jan. 2, 1917, in Shelton to Charles and Anna (Ahrens) Baade. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945.
He married
Lorraine Coe on June 26, 1946, in Smith Center, Kan. He farmed in the Cairo area for 33 years and moved to Colorado when he retired in 1978.
Survivors include his wife; his daughter, Christie (Mrs. Max) Grimes; a grandson; a sister, Edna Waddington of Grand Island; and a brother, Walter of Cairo.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.
Joy Bromwich
Joy W. Bromwich, 67, of Grand Island died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at St. Francis Skilled Care Unit in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Jocelyn Tupper will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Survivors include a son, Brad of Grand Island; three daughters, Debbie Miller of Ravenna, Delores O' Brien of Grand Island and Linda Cox of Carson City, Nev.; eight grandchildren; his father, Percy Bromwich of Winner, S.D.; four brothers, Roland of Winner, S.D., Arthur of Cambridge, Minn., Dean of Grange, Wyo., and Darrell of Grand Island; three sisters, Wanda Hrabanek of Colome, S.D., Eunice Sharer of Ideal, S.D., and Lois Sachtjen of Winner, S.D.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel, and a grandson.
Luise Decker
Luise Decker, 91, of Grand Island died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997, at the Wood River Good Samaritan Center.
Funeral services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home of Grand Island.
Dick Saathoff
Dick Lynn Saathoff, 48, of Grand Island died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997, at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Missionary Church in Franklin. Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery in Franklin.

Jessie Bopp
YORK -- Jessie Louise Bopp, 72, of York, formerly of Polk, died on Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Beverly J. Minor officiating. Burial will be in the Dublin cemetery at Primrose. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Bertha Janulewicz
LOUP CITY -- Bertha E. Janulewicz, 81, of Loup City died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997, at Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Reggie Urban will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery in Loup City.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday with a 4 p.m. sodality rosary at Peters Funeral Home in Loup City, and will continue from 6 to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service Tuesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Janulewicz was born on Nov. 23, 1916, on a farm near Paplin in Howard County to Michael and Mary (Prenczek) Bukowski.
In 1917, the family moved to Ashton, where her father ran the Ford garage. She attended the St. Francis Parochial School in Ashton. In 1930, the family moved to a farm west of Loup City until her father's death in 1938, when they moved into Loup City. She worked as a sales clerk in a grocery store for Walt Maciejewski.
She married
Ben Z. Janulewicz on June 30, 1941, at Loup City. The couple lived their entire married
life in Loup City. She entered Rose Lane Home last March.
She was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church and its altar society. She was a bookkeeper of St. Josaphat's Sodality from 1947 to 1996. She was also a past chairman of the Sherman County American Heart Association.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers and birds.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Tim of Grand Island, and Michael of Norfolk; a daughter, Kathy Headlee of Grand Island; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Clementine Landrigan of Ravenna, and Stella Sinon of Loup City.
She was preceded in death by two infant sons, Joseph and Bernard; three brothers, Floyd, Stanley and Joe Bukowski; three sisters, Frances Kosmicki, Martha Wesierski and Mary Pokorski; and an infant sister.
