Marie Krenz
BROKEN BOW -- Anna Marie Krenz, 84, of Broken Bow, formerly of Merna, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at the Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Merna with the Rev. Mark Maresh officiating. Burial will be in the Dale Catholic cemetery west of Merna.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to noon Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary, Broken Bow, and from 12:30 p.m. to service time at the church.
Miss Krenz was born on Dec. 10, 1913, on the family farm north of Merna to Joseph J. and Myrtle (Cash) Krenz. She stayed on the family farm until 1971, when she moved into Merna.
She graduated from Merna High School and attended business college in Omaha. She worked at the Merna Post Office, the Nebraska State Bank and the Soil Conservation Service in Broken Bow. She cared for her parents until their deaths. She was a life-long member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Merna.
In August 1997, she entered the Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
She enjoyed children and her pets.
Survivors include many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Pearl Belders; and her brother, Joseph Krenz.
'Bill' Scranton
THEDFORD -- Harvey William "Bill" Scranton, 65, of Thedford, died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at his ranch near Thedford.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at the United Church of Christ in Thedford with the Rev. Linda Martin officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Hillcrest cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary and from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
Memorials may be given to the United Church of Christ in Thedford or the donor's choice.
Mr. Scranton was born on Aug. 30, 1932, at Sumner, to Elvin and Irene (White) Scranton. At the age of 8, he moved with his family to a ranch near Thedford. Here he grew up and graduated from Thedford High School in 1950. Then he served in the Korean War in the U.S. Army.
On Nov. 27, 1955, he married
Norma Lee Hillman at DeRidder, La. They made their home and raised their family on a ranch in the Sandhills., carrying on the family tradition of raising black Angus cattle.
He was a member of the United Church of Christ at Thedford, American Legion Post No. 230 of Thedford, charter member of Thomas County Farm Bureau, past member of Nebraska Cattlemen's Association, past member of the ASC office board and the Thomas County Extension Board.
He had a passion for family genealogy, history and travel. He loved being with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Lee of Thedford; a daughter, Deb Klemetson of Minneapolis; two sons, Stuart of Thedford, Edward of Thedford; three granddaughters; mother Irene Scranton of Thedford; a brother, Elvin of Buffalo, Wyo.; two sisters, Janet (Mrs. Tom) Howell of Valentine, Jean (Mrs. Ron) Edelman of Florence, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his father and a grandson.
'Tony' Malek
AURORA -- Anton "Tony" Malek, 94, of Aurora died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997, at Memorial Community Care at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora. The Rev. John Keefe will officiate. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. A rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
Beulah Marsh
TAYLOR -- Beulah D. Marsh, 93, of Taylor died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997, at Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Marty Robbins will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery in Sargent. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Loup County ambulance unit.
'Sammy' Mayhew
ST. PAUL -- Norma Beatrice "Sammy" Mayhew, 59, of St. Paul, formerly of Ericson, died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Roger Leavitt will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Hillside cemetery in North Loup.
Mrs. Mayhew was cremated. There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the United Parkinson Foundation.
Deloras Eriksen
WOOD RIVER -- Deloras M. Eriksen, 85, of Wood River, formerly of Grand Island, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Mrs. Eriksen will be cremated. Burial will be at a later date in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Mrs. Eriksen was born on Oct. 5, 1912, in Grand Island to Frank and Martha Pepper. She grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1930.
She married
to Darold Eriksen on March 18, 1934, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The couple lived in several areas of the country and came back to Grand Island in 1983.
Mr. and Mrs. Eriksen had lived at the Good Samaritan Center in Wood River since February 1996.
She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Rod Eriksen of Jackson, Miss., and Gary Eriksen of Ocean Springs, Miss.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harold Pepper of Grand Island.
Blanche Rohs
Blanche Marcella Rohs, 82, of Grand Island died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the Rev. Don Larmore officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Greenwood cemetery in York.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Melvina Bombeck
GIBBON -- Melvina E. Bombeck, 83, of Gibbon died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Gibbon Baptist Church. The Rev. Robert Flynn will officiate. Burial will be in the Kenesaw Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon. Memorials are suggested to the Gibbon Emergency Unit or the church.
Mrs. Bombeck was born on Oct. 7, 1914, in Kenesaw to Clayton and Edna (Hardon) Gearhart. She grew up on a farm between Gibbon and Kenesaw and graduated from Kenesaw High School in 1932.
She and Cortland Bombeck were married
on Jan. 16, 1934, in Gibbon. They lived on a farm north of Kenesaw for 51 years until moving into Gibbon in 1985. Mr. Bombeck died on Jan. 25, 1990.
Mrs. Bombeck was a member of the Gibbon Baptist Church and a charter member of the "Just a Mere" Extension Club.
Survivors include one son, Vaughn Bombeck of Shelton; one daughter, Janelle Richardson of Gibbon; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Lyle Gearhart of Gibbon and Elwyn Gearhart of Orange, Texas.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter and two brothers.
