Elsie Josten
Elsie Josten, 97, of Grand Island died Wednesday, April 14, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin. The Rev. Thomas Bauwens will officiate. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Huffman's Brooks Chapel in Elgin with an 8 p.m. Wake Service.
Mrs. Josten was born Feb. 23, 1902, at Rosalie to Matthaues and Wilhelminia (Passarge) Nissen. She grew up at Rosalie and attended the Rosalie Public Schools. In 1917 the family moved to the Beaver Valley 25 miles west of Elgin where they lived for two years. They then moved to a farm southwest of Elgin.
On Feb. 28, 1922, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, she married
Hubert R. Josten. The couple farmed in the Elgin community until they retired to their home in Elgin in 1970. Mr. Josten died April 15, 1975, and she continued to live in Elgin until suffering a stroke in 1997. She then moved to Grand Island to be near her daughter.
Mrs. Josten was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, and its Altar Society. She was a Gold Star Mother.
Survivors include one daughter, Delores (Mrs. Donald) Koskovich of Grand Island; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one step-great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Bessie Hawks and Lillie (Mrs. Leonard) Schmitz, both of Elgin.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Harold and Donald; one sister, Frieda Nissen; and three brothers, Matt, Willie "Bill" and Alfred Nissen.
Daniel Nutter
Daniel J. Nutter, 54, of Grand Island died Thursday, April 15, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral home.
The Rev. Richard Kiarohl will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Emma Radil
ORD -- Emma Radil, 99, of Ord died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Jim Warner will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood cemetery at Burwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Valley County Hospital or Valley County Rescue Unit.
Mrs. Radil was born on Nov. 9, 1899, in Valley County to Anton and Katherine (Pavlicek) Moravecek. She attended Manderson District 31 School.
She married
Aldrich Janicek. The couple lived two miles north of Burwell, where they farmed and operated a dairy until Mr. Janicek died. Mrs. Radil then spent time in Ord with Rose and Anton Radil. She purchased a home in Burwell.
She married
Otto Radil, and the couple lived in Ord. Mr. Radil died in 1965, and Mrs. Radil continued to live in Ord. She had lived at the Valley County Nursing Home for the past year and a half.
She enjoyed flowers, gardening, baking and raising cattle.
Survivors include two sisters, Rose Geneski and Matilda Volf, both of Ord.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Anna Nevrivy, Bessie Penas, Antonia Valla, Mary John and Helen Benben; a half sister, Katherine Cink; and infant twin brothers.
Thyra Rasmussen
AURORA -- Thyra Rasmussen, 95, of Aurora died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kronborg. The Rev. Charles Pollard will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's cemetery in Kronborg.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mrs. Rasmussen was born on Sept. 17, 1903, near Marquette to Niels and Mathilde (Kaae) Andersen.
She grew up near Marquette until moving to Arapahoe as a small child. Her family lived there for 13 years before returning to Hamilton County to farm near Marquette.
She married
Walter Rasmussen on March 6, 1935, at Kronborg. They farmed near Marquette until retirement. Mrs. Rasmussen moved to Aurora after her husband's death in 1978.
She was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Kronborg.
Survivors include her daughter, Lou Ann (Mrs. Ralph) Jensen of Burlington, Wis.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dagmer Andersen of Aurora.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Reuben, Kenneth and Ingvard; and one sister, Olga Wulff.
Donald Thompson
NORTH LOUP -- Donald Thompson, 74, of North Loup died Thursday, April 15, 1999, at the East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, Texas.
Services are pending with Ord Memorial Chapel.
Rosemary Townsley
LINCOLN -- Rosemary E. Townsley, 55, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, died Wednesday, April 14, 1999.
Services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home in Lincoln. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Westlawn cemetery in Grand Island. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Townsley was an Avon representative and a day care provider.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and was a president club member with Avon.
Survivors include her husband, Roger; sons, David of Lincoln, Mark of Ashland; brother, Max Boersen Jr. of Grand Island; sister, Dianna (Mrs. Chuck) Leach of Grand Island; five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
Vivian May
TAMPA, Fla. -- Vivian E. May, 86, of Tampa, Fla., died Wednesday April 14, 1999.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Westshore Christian Church in Tampa.
The family will receive friends starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Scottish Rite Foundation.
Mrs. May was born and grew up in Nebraska. She moved to Tampa in 1969.
She was a past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Westshore Christian Church in Tampa.
Survivors include her husband, John L. May; one daughter, Sharon L. Van Trump of Tampa; one son, Robert L. May of Chapman; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mary Perkins
POLK -- Mary H. Perkins, 63, of rural Polk died Sunday, Nov. 30, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Arborville Congregational Church in Arborville. The Rev. Lester Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Plainview cemetery west of Bradshaw.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Metz Mortuary in York.
Memorials are suggested to the church or family.
Miss Perkins was born Dec. 9, 1933, to Lloyd and Dorthy (Dalbey) Perkins at Ulysses.
She was a homemaker and worked in several factories in Henderson and York.
She was a member of Arborville Congregational Church.
Survivors include one brother, Dale of Central City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and four sisters.
