Juan Carlos Felix-Pedro
Juan Carlos Felix-Pedro, 5-month-old son of Carlos and Lidia (Pedro-Felix) Francisco of Grand Island, died Sunday, July 5, 1998, at Children's Hospital in Omaha.
Services were on Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Guadalupe Dominguez officiated. Burial was in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
He was born on Jan. 13, 1998, at Omaha.
Survivors include his parents; three sisters, Veronica, Lisa and Evett, all of Grand Island; maternal grandparents, Santiago and Catalina Pedro of California; and paternal grandparents, Juan and Maria Francisco of Guatemala.
George Anderson
ST. EDWARD -- George C. Anderson, 86, of St. Edward died Monday, July 6, 1998, at the Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Palestine Baptist Church of rural Lindsay. The Rev. Tom Washington will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in St. Edward.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.
Dale Grimm
Wood River -- Dale E. Grimm, 74, of Wood River died Monday, July 6, 1998, at Bryan LGH Medical Center in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon. Military graveside services by Gibbon American Legion Post 310 will follow at the Gibbon Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Gibbon-Shelton Veterans of Foreign Wars or the donor's choice.
Mr. Grimm was born on June 13, 1924, in Decab, Iowa, to Vernie and Nellie (Reed) Grimm. He grew up in that area and graduated from high school in VanWert, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1944.
He married
Wanda Scadden on Oct. 29, 1943, at Mersin, Mo. After he returned from the war, they lived in South Sioux City for 20 years. They spent the next 20 years living in the Central Nebraska area and moved to Wood River in 1996. He worked for the Burlington Railroad, in construction and drove a semi-truck. He retired from truck driving in 1986.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Betty Smith and Sharon Olson, both of Gibbon, Patricia Hodges of Grand River, Iowa, and Karen Kelly of South Sioux City; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dean of VanWert, Iowa, and Estel of Logan, Iowa; and four sisters, Orvette Stickly of Lonedale, Ark., Clara Burn of Creston, Iowa, Orma Powell of Osceola and Merna Gere of VanWert.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Connie Rae Grimm; one brother and three sisters.
Grace Thompson
ANSLEY -- Grace Bell Thompson, 93, of Ansley died Tuesday, July 7, 1998, at Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. J. Green will officiate. Burial will be in the Ansley Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Thompson was born on Nov. 23, 1904, near Mullen to Alexander and Nora (Bell) Kerns. She grew up in the Mullen and Seneca areas and attended school in the Mullen area.
She married
Clifford A. Thompson on April 25, 1925, at Fort Collins, Colo. They lived in Montana for two years before returning to Mullen. They moved to Broken Bow in 1946 and to Ansley in 1951. Mr. Thompson died on Feb. 10, 1973. Mrs. Thompson remained at home until her health began to fail recently and she was hospitalized.
She was a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, David Thompson of Alda and Herbert Thompson of Broken Bow; one daughter, Marilyn Vinnedge of Oakland City, Ind.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.
Myron Harrie
Omaha -- Myron Harrie, 79, of the Hallmark Care Center in Omaha died Sunday, July 5, 1998, at the center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Kleine Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Robert Harms will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Harrie was born on May 12, 1919, at Chapman to Fred Sr. and Marie (Schroeder) Harrie. He grew up and was educated in Grand Island. He later moved to a farm near Omaha with his parents.
He served as a special caregiver for his parents their entire life. After their deaths, he moved into Omaha and worked for a vending machine company. He moved into the Hallmark Care Center approximately four years ago.
He was very active at Zion Lutheran Church in Omaha, where he taught Sunday school and helped with youth activities.
Survivors include two sisters, Ella Moore of Grand Island and Irene Wagner of Sacramento, Calif.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Alvin, Walter, Irvin, Fred Jr. and Henry; and three sisters, Lorraine, Elvira and Leona.
Patrice Blue
PHOENIX -- Patrice Blue, 51, of Phoenix, formerly of the Grand Island area, died June 18, 1998, in Phoenix.
She was cremated.
Best Funeral Home in Peoria, Ariz., is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Blue was born at Prosser to Mary Belle Goldenstein.
Survivors include one son, Ed Swenson of Topeka, Kan.; her mother, of Soap Lake, Wash.; one sister, Shirley Duncan of North Platte; and three brothers, Ron Blue and Don Blue, both of Soap Lake, Wash., and Larry Blue of Grandview, Wash.
Ronnie Jares
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Ronnie L. Jares, 48, of Scottsdale, Ariz., died Monday, July 6, 1998, as the result of an automobile accident.
Services are pending at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Survivors include his parents, Louis and Bertha Jares of St. Paul; and one brother, Jerry of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Brenda Thieman
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Brenda Kay Thieman, 37, of Albuquerque, N.M., died Sunday, July 5, 1998, at the Ehrling Bergquist Air Force Base Regional Hospital in Bellevue.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church in Plattsmouth. The Rev. Larry Hammons will officiate. Burial will be in the Rock Bluff cemetery in Plattsmouth.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at Roby Funeral Home in Plattsmouth.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Thieman was born on April 30, 1961, at Nebraska City to Dwaine and Edna Jean (McCartney) Stodola. She was raised in the Rock Bluff and Plattsmouth area. She was a National Honor Society graduate of Plattsmouth High School in 1981 and attended college at Northern Virginia in Fairfax, Va., for one year.
She married
Col. Bruce A. Thieman in 1982. They moved to Omaha in 1984. They lived in Washington, D.C., from 1984 to 1986; in Montgomery, Ala., from 1986 to 1990; and in Los Angeles from 1990 to 1992. They moved to Washington in 1993 and lived in Colorado Springs, Colo., from 1994 to 1997. They had lived in Albuquerque since 1997. She was a homemaker and mother.
She was a Catholic and a Disciple of Christ.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Stephanie, Kimberly and Deanna Thieman, all of Albuquerque; her parents, of Rock Bluff; one brother, Marvin Stodola of Bellevue; and one sister, Becky (Mrs. Bryan) Hall of Rock Bluff.
Alice Bett
Alice D. Bett, 93, of Grand Island died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at the Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society Research Fund or the Alzheimer's Foundation.
Mrs. Bett was born on Dec. 17, 1904, to Peter and Margaret (Stacks) Nelson at Lynch. She attended rural schools in the Lynch area, graduating in 1924. She taught at rural schools for four years in Nebraska before attending Wayne State Normal School.
She was employed in the office works in Denver, Greeley, and Fort Collins, Colo., for several years before moving to Washington, D.C., during World War II. She worked as an administrative assistant for the Lutheran Theology School in Chicago.
She married
Walter J. Bett on April 30, 1949, at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The couple lived in Maywood, Ill., before returning to Grand Island in 1966 where she worked for the Grand Island Public School with the ABLE students program. Mr. Bett died in July 1967. She retired in 1969 from Grand Island Public Schools.
She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and the Naomi Circle at the church. She also volunteered at Stuhr Museum. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and traveling.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Marcia Bumken of Albuquerque, N.M.; two step grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Johns and three brothers, Harvey, Olof and Andrew Nelson.
