Verne Glenn
CAIRO -- Verne H. Glenn, 70, of Cairo died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Gollaher Chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Jim Keyser officiated. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Cairo Quick Response Team.
'Bill' Hollister
STROMSBURG -- Willard C. "Bill" Hollister, 75, of Stromsburg died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at York General Hospital in York.
Services are pending with Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
Helen Keuter
GIBBON -- Helen L. Keuter, 85, of Gibbon, formerly of Petersburg, died Monday, April 5, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center in Gibbon.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelton. The Rev. Ray Kosmicki will officiate. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Pleasant cemetery in Petersburg.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m., with a rosary service at 7 p.m., Wednesday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon.
Mrs. Keuter was born on Aug. 8, 1913, in Petersburg to William and Charity (Male) Thomas. She grew up there and graduated from Petersburg High School in 1931. She also attended normal training school for a year.
She married
Sylvester Keuter in 1934 in Petersburg. They lived in Petersburg. She served as a news correspondent for several newspapers in the Albion and Norfolk areas for many years. In 1957, she moved to Columbus, where she worked at St. Mary's Hospital for nine years.
Mrs. Keuter also managed an apartment complex for several years. She moved to Gibbon in 1992 when she moved into the Good Samaritan Center
Survivors include two sons, Mark of Norfolk and Jerome of Omaha; one daughter, Marguerite (Mrs. Vernon) Schuster of Gibbon; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Caroline Arends; a grandson; two brothers; and four sisters.
Ethel Anderson
LEMOYNE -- Ethel L. Anderson, 73, of Lemoyne died Monday, April 5, 1999, at Ogallala Community Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. MDT Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Ogallala. The Rev. Ray Norris will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. CDT Thursday in Floral Lawn cemetery in North Platte.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. MDT Wednesday at Draucker Funeral Home of Ogallala.
Memorials are suggested to Sandhills District Health Department and the Keystone-Lemoyne Fire Department.
Mrs. Anderson was born on July 10, 1925, in Arthur County to Chris and Almeda Stoddard Johnson. She attended District 1 School in Arthur County and Arthur County High School for three years. She graduated from the Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis in 1942.
She moved to North Platte, where she worked for Greyhound Bus Lines as a ticket agent.
She married
Lewis Anderson in 1944, and they lived in Grand Island. She was active in Trinity United Methodist Church there.
In 1972, the couple moved to North Platte, where Mrs. Anderson attended Mid-Plains Community College. She graduated in 1974 with honors as a licensed practical nurse.
She went to work for Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte. In 1985, she moved to Lemoyne, where she worked with the Sandhills District Health Department.
She was a member of the Keystone-Lemoyne Fire Department Auxiliary and the United Methodist Church in Ogallala.
Survivors include two sons, Craig of Lincoln and Russell of Grand Island; one stepson, Arthur of Omaha; five grandchildren; four step grandchildren; two sisters, Doris (Mrs. Duane) Wilson of Arthur and Winifred Anderberg of Oshkosh; and a brother, Mahlon Johnson of Lemoyne.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Kenny.
May Goehring
ELKHORN -- May E. Goehring, 86, of Elkhorn, formerly of Grand Island, died Monday, April 5, 1999, at Elkhorn Manor.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Steven Petersen
THEDFORD -- Steven Petersen, 46, of Thedford died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at BryanLGH Medical Center West in Lincoln as the result of a fall at a construction site in Atkinson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Thedford High School east gymnasium with Pastors Rick Johnson and Terry Skov officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest cemetery at Thedford.
Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Steven Petersen Scholarship Fund.
Mr. Petersen was born on March 9, 1953, at Huron, S.D., to Dwayne and Dorothy Maxyne (Henson) Petersen. He graduated from high school in Huron in 1971.
He married
Linda Nelson on Oct. 23, 1982. He was elected and served one term as Thomas County sheriff. He attended the Law Enforcement Training Center and received special honors there.
He married
Patty Seelhoff on Dec. 18, 1998. He was a construction worker most of his adult life.
Mr. Petersen was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church in Thedford, was a Sunday school teacher and loved to teach and work with youth.
He was a certified emergency medical technician, an ambulance driver and a member of the Nebraska Sheriff's Association.
Survivors include his wife; six children, Tera, Derek and Bryan Petersen, all of Thedford, Jesse and Luke Seelhoff, both of Colorado, and Katie Seelhoff of Thedford; his mother and stepfather, Maxyne and Marvin Blauvelt of Thedford; his father and stepmother, Dwayne and Loretta Petersen of Huron, S.D.; three brothers, Nels of Berthoud, Colo., Robert of North Platte and Ron of Hampton; one stepsister, Marsha (Mrs. Roger) Hansen of Huron, S.D.; six stepbrothers, Gary Salomon, Gene Salomon and Ron Salomon, all of Gillette, Wyo., Bob Salomon of Utah, Jim Salomon of Wolsey, S.D., and Jason Corcoran of Chicago; and his grandparents, Keith and Barbara Blauvelt of Thedford.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Randy Dean Blauvelt; and his grandparents, Art and Frieda Petersen.
Arden Valasek
SAN FRANCISCO -- Dr. Arden Dale Valasek, 67, of San Francisco, formerly of Ord, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Coming Home Hospice in San Francisco.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at West Portal Lutheran Church in San Francisco. The Rev. David Stecholtz will officiate. Dr. Valasek was cremated. A private family service will be at a later date with burial in the Ord Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Duggan's Serra Mortuary in Daly City, Calif.
Memorials are suggested to Coming Home Hospice, the Arden Valasek Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Scholarship Fund at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco, the San Francisco Symphony, the church or the University of Nebraska Foundation, benefiting the College of Dentistry.
Dr. Valasek was born on April 4, 1931, in Valley County to Frank L. and Rose M. (Klima) Valasek. He grew up in Ord. He graduated from the University of Nebraska Dental College in 1956 and served in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps from 1956 to 1960.
He completed requirements to practice oral surgery in 1968 and was certified by the American Board of Oral Surgery in March 1968. He operated his own dental practice for 43 years in California. He had lived in San Francisco for four years.
He was a singer in the Winifred Baker Chorale and Sacramento Symphony Chorus, singing in London and at Carnegie Hall. He also was a certified radio announcer and an Eagle Scout.
He enjoyed flying, skiing and running marathons.
Survivors include his father, of Lincoln; and one brother, Verden R. Valasek of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa Lee; and his mother.
