Marie Linke
ORD -- Marie Linke, 86, of Ord died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ord. The Rev. Roger Leavitt will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery at Scotia.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
'Hank' Manning
SHELTON -- Henry B. "Hank" Manning, 92, of Shelton died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelton. The Rev. Ray Kosmicki will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 6:30 p.m. rosary, Tuesday at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Manning was born on Dec. 31, 1905, in Park River, N.D., to William and Mary (Buddecke) Manning. As a child, he moved to Wyoming and St. Libory. He attended St. Libory's Catholic School through the 10th grade. His father had an ice cream route with which he would help.
He played with St. Paul and Palmer baseball teams in the 1920s and 1930s and had a chance at the minor leagues. He chose to stay home and began to work at a mechanic shop in St. Libory.
He married
Catherine Jansen on Nov. 6, 1935, in St. Libory, where they farmed. They began farming in the Palmer area in 1952 and moved in 1963 to Shelton, where he retired from farming.
He enjoyed playing cards and traveling.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Alleen Wilks of Omaha; three sons, Melvin and Myron of Shelton and Wayne of Grand Island; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Ed Manning of Grand Island; and one sister, Chris of Denver.
He was preceded in death by thee brothers, Ben, George and Ray; and two sisters, Florence and Elizabeth Flyr.
Kenneth Rasmussen
ROCKVILLE -- Kenneth Rasmussen, 68, of Rockville died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Church in Rockville. The Rev. Rod Pruss will officiate. Burial will be in the Souleville Cemetery.
A Christian wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Rasmussen Mortuary of Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
'Ginger' Sich
ORD -- Virginia Alice "Ginger" Sich, 63, of Ord died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ord United Methodist Church. The Rev. James Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Bohemian Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ord Memorial Chapel. There will be no viewing at the church prior to the services.
Memorials are suggested to the Valley County Hospital.
Mrs. Sich was born on March 18, 1935, at Ord to Lloyd and Alice (Mason) Wilson. She grew up and was educated at Ord, graduating from Ord High School in 1953. During high school, she worked at Carsons IGA and for Ed Swopes Photography.
She married
James "Jimmy" Sich Jr. of Ord on Feb. 20, 1955, at Council Bluffs, Iowa. They farmed north of Ord for several years before moving into Ord.
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She loved to cook and entertain. She enjoyed animals, especially her dogs. Her hobbies included camping, fishing, boating, bowling and playing cards and board games.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, James A. of Grand Island and Jeffrey P. of Ord; one daughter, Susan J. Pritchard of Primrose; five grandchildren; a brother, Lloyd H. "Junior" Wilson Jr. of Ord; and four sisters, Shirley Ketchmark of Ord, Dena Sintek of North Loup, Joyce Swingen of Follsom, Calif., and Jeri Masin of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant granddaughter.
Raymond Vannoy
ST. EDWARD -- Raymond Garfield Brown Vannoy, 83, of St. Edward died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Methodist-Presbyterian Church in St. Edward. The Rev. Donald Steiner will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in St. Edward with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 226.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.
Mr. Vannoy was born on June 27, 1915, at Ravenna to Morris Bailey and Dolly (Gier) Brown. He was raised by the John and Julia Vannoy family in Waverly. He was educated in Waverly and attended Waverly High School.
He served in the U.S. Army for five years in the Philippines and New Guinea.
He married
Ola Mae Rush on Dec. 30, 1941, at her parents' home in Lincoln. After his discharge from the Army, they lived in Denver. They moved in 1946 to St. Edward, where he farmed and later worked as a carpenter.
Mr. Vannoy was a member of the Methodist-Presbyterian Church in St. Edward. He was also a member of American Legion Post 226 of St. Edward. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Judy Nauman of LaVista; four grandchildren; and three half brothers Jim Potter of Lusk, Wyo., Harold Potter of Cowley, Wyo., and Jules Potter of Flagstaff, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by a son, Doug; one brother, Floyd Brown; and two sisters, Ruth and Irene.
Loretta Gay
COLUMBUS -- Loretta Gay, 80, of Columbus, formerly of Belgrade, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at Columbus Community Hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. The Rev. Paul Rowoldt will officiate. Burial will be in Pierce Chapel cemetery at rural Clarks.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 am. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Gay was born on May 9, 1918, in Columbus to Robert and Mildred (Toogood) Hansher. She attended Columbus public schools and Belgrade schools.
She married
Lyle F. Gay on Jan. 1, 1939, at Palmer. She was a longtime Columbus area resident. She worked at Dale Electronic until her retirement in 1982.
Mrs. Gay was an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling to many national bowling tournaments. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.
Survivors include one son, Nick Gay of Columbus; three grandchildren; one brother, Corbett Hansher of Clarks; and three sisters, Erma (Mrs. Carl) Davis of Dix, Marion (Mrs. Dwight) Nelson of Lincoln and Muriel (Mrs. Bill) Neal of Clarksville, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Josh Kopecky
LINCOLN -- Josh Aaron Kopecky, 23, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, in Lincoln.
Services were on Monday at Schumacher-Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne. The Rev. Charles Alkula officiated. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery at Wayne.
Mr. Kopecky was born on July 28, 1975, at Grand Island to Lonnie and Connie (Nydahl) Kopecky. He attended Dodge Elementary School and Central Catholic High School and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1993.
He graduated from McCook Junior College in 1995, then transferred to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he was majoring in engineering.
He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Grand Island.
Survivors include his parents, Lonnie and Marinel Kopecky and Connie and Jeffrey Ambroz of Grand Island; one stepsister, Kenji (Mrs. Chad) Wonch of Grand Island; paternal grandparents, Lester and Berniece Kopecky of Lindsay; and maternal grandfather, Malvin Nydahl of Winside.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Margaret Nydahl.
