Mable Holm
BROKEN BOW -- Mable G. Holm, 93, of Broken Bow, formerly of Mason City, died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Mason City. Burial will be in the Mason City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
A memorial has been established to the church.
Mrs. Holm was born on Aug. 30, 1905, in Sweetwater to Martin and May Lille (Olson) Lund. Her early years were spent in Sweetwater, and Norwegian was spoken in her home. After her mother died in the spring of 1919, the family moved to the Round Grove area near Mason City. Mrs. Holm became the homemaker for her four brothers and one sister.
She was married
Clarence H. Holm on Jan. 25, 1925, at Mason City, and they farmed south of town.
In 1944, when their son joined the Navy, the Holms moved into Mason City and opened the International Harvester Implement Store. They owned it until their retirement.
After Mr. Holm's death on Aug. 23, 1977, Mrs. Holm moved to Custer Heights in Broken Bow. In 1992, she decided it was time to move to Sandhills Manor in Broken Bow, where she spent her last years.
She was a member of the Baptist Church, American Baptist Women, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sunshine Club.
Survivors include a son, Milan "Mike" Holm of Pocatello, Idaho; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Edna (Mrs. Cecil) Wood of Caldwell, Idaho.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Oliver, Alvin, Oscar, Albert and an infant brother, Louie.
Levina Lamoree
STROMSBURG -- Levina E. Lamoree, 81, of Stromsburg died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg. The Rev. Keith Brozek will officiate. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
Mrs. Lamoree was born on April 9, 1917, in Milford. She came to live with Albert A. and Cecelia (Adelson) Hult near Stromsburg as their daughter in the fall of 1917.
She attended school in Stromsburg, graduating in 1934. She attended one year at Luther College in Wahoo, where she received a secretarial degree.
She married
Irving Lavelle Lamoree on June 8, 1937, at Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg.
Mrs. Lamoree started working for attorney Jack Stanton in 1958 and later worked for Mills & Mills, Attorneys at Law, in Osceola as a legal secretary. She also worked at Flowers by Irene and the Headlight.
She was active in her church as organist and choir director, junior leader, Sunday school teacher and WELCA member. She was involved in county Extension and 4-H Club leadership. She was a Woman's Club officer, chairwoman of the Swedish Festival Smorgasbord and was selected Swedish Festival queen in 1972.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Meredith (Mrs. Ronald) Sinn of Osceola; and two sons, Robert of Stromsburg and Richard of North Platte; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandson.
Carolyn Peterson
STROMSBURG -- Carolyn F. Peterson, 68, of Stromsburg died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Stromsburg Baptist Church. The Rev. Duane Tweeten will officiate. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Palmer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Peterson was born on Nov. 3, 1930, at York to Harold M. and Edith Anna (Lindgren) Berglund. She attended school in Stromsburg and graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1945. She then attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for one year.
She married
Elton W. Peterson on Aug. 25, 1948, in Osceola. She had been involved in 17 different organizations on the local, district, state and national levels. She had been a 4-H leader, a Sunday school teacher and held numerous other positions in the Woman's Club at district and state levels.
Mrs. Peterson was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 132, NCIP and the state Scandinavian Council. She was Midwest Covenant Home arboretum curator, past chairwoman of Grandma's Kitchen and current chairwoman of the Swedish Festival Smorgasbord.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Barbara (Mrs. Tom) Rodene of Stromsburg; two grandchildren; and one sister, Velma Carter of Roberts, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mavis Littleford.
Leland Smith
ST. EDWARD -- Leland Fay "Smitty" Smith, 70, of St. Edward died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in St. Edward. The Rev. Terry Otto will officiate. Burial will be in Lingle cemetery at rural St. Edward.
Miller-Levander Funeral Home of St. Edward is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Smith was born on Sept. 11, 1928, on a farm in Nance County south of St. Edward to Fay H. and Nellie M. (Curry) Smith. He was educated at Big Cut Nance County District 12 School and graduated from St. Edward High School in 1945.
He married
D. Fern Stephens on Oct. 26, 1947, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They lived and farmed in the Nance and Boone County areas. They raised horses and had a dairy farm. He retired in 1990. He had also worked as a clerk and weigh master at the Fullerton Livestock Market since 1966.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in St. Edward. He served on the District 11 school board and co-op board. He was also a Asgrow Seed dealer.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Tom and Bill, both of St. Edward; two daughters, Jacquie (Mrs. Bob) Grams of Imperial and Carolyn (Mrs. Larry) Thompson; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Rita Wiberg
BURWELL -- Rita Marie Wiberg, 77, of Burwell died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burwell. The Rev. Bernard Berger will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.
Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Burwell Volunteer Fire Department.
Mrs. Wiberg was born on July 25, 1921, in Valley County to James and Helen (Zikmund) Meese. She attended rural Valley County schools and graduated from Ord High School in 1939. During World War II, Mrs. Wiberg worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island.
She married
John J. Wiberg on July 24, 1947, in Burwell. They moved to Broken Bow for a short time and returned to Burwell, where they lived for the rest of their marriage. Mr. Wiberg died in March 1980. Mrs. Wiberg continued to live in Burwell.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society, the Diocesan Confraternity of Christian Women, the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice (Mrs. Tom) Ryan of Lincoln and Cynthia (Mrs. Tim) Johnson of Greybull, Wyo.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Martha Stahlnecker of Burwell; and one brother, Thad Meese of Ord.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, James Meese Jr.; and one sister, Lillian Owen.
James Cook
OMAHA -- James C. Cook, 79, of Omaha died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Scottsdale, Ariz.
A memorial service will be at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the Howard County Historical Society.
He married
Margie Becker. He had been a St. Paul businessman. He lived in Omaha, and they had spent several winters in Arizona.
Survivors are his wife; his mother-in-law, Effie Andersen of St. Paul; and his brother-in-law, Virgil Becker of St. Paul.
