Vada Mohr
Vada G. Mohr, 98, of Grand Island died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at the Hamilton Ma-nor in Aurora.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel of First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. The Rev. C. Roger Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be one hour before the Wednesday service time at the church. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the donor's choice.
Mrs. Mohr was born on Jan. 26, 1899, to Charles and Emma (Strong) Busic in Gordon. She attended grade school at Brownlee and graduated from Hyannis High School.
She married
Peter F. Mohr on Sept. 6, 1917, in Ashby. They moved to the family farm in 1920, which was homesteaded by Mohr's father north of Grand Island. She owned and operated Sunnyside Convalescent Home in Grand Island for 10 years.
She was a member of the church and its Ladies Society and the Platte-Duetsche Ladies Society. She was also active in home extension work, and was a recipient of the Homemaker Award for Hall County by Aksarben of Omaha.
Survivors include five sons, Leonard of Grand Island, Donald of Central City, Peter Raymond of Aurora, Casper Dale of Hartford, Conn., and John of Van Cleave, Miss.; one daughter, Lois Obermeier of Aurora; 25 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1986; one son, Wilmer; six sisters and two brothers.
Blanche Rohs
Blanche Marcella Rohs, 82, of Grand Island died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Church in Grand Island, with the Rev. Don Larmore officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Greenwood cemetery in York.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until a 7 p.m. prayer service Monday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Rohs was born on July 16, 1915, to Frank and Anna (Hlavac) Husak in Bruno. She graduated from David City High School in 1934.
She married
John E. Beckius in David City on June 16, 1936. He died on Dec. 19, 1946. She married
Edgar A. Rohs on Feb. 19, 1953, in Grand Island. The couple lived in York before moving to Grand Island in 1960. She worked at Woodland Golf Course for 10 years and at Fonner Park for 18 years before retiring in 1980. Her husband died on Aug. 13, 1987.
She was a member of the church for more than 30 years, the Blessed Sacrament Altar Society and the Liederkranz, and was a past member of the bowling league. She was also a longtime volunteer at the Veterans Administration Medical Center's recreation area and at the church.
Survivors include her son, John D. "Jack" N. Rohs Sr. of Fort Collins, Colo.; one daughter, Pat (Mrs. John) Logan of Casper, Wyo.; two stepsons, Aldon "Dick" H. Rohs of St. Paul, Minn., and Lewis A. Rohs of Hershey; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Rose Schmit of David City.
She was preceded in death by both husbands; one son, Donald; one brother, Fred; and one sister, Tillie Stevens.
Frank Sanchez
Frank T. Sanchez Sr., 76, of 1123 E. Eighth Street in Grand Island, died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Tom Ryan officiating. Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. rosary at the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Survivors include two sons, Frank Jr. and Ruben, both of Grand Island; five daughters, Theresa (Mrs. Abelardo) Esquitin of Grand Island, Gloria (Mrs. Kennie) Romer of Corning, Iowa, Linda (Mrs. Gary) Kelly of Princeton, Texas, Veronica (Mrs. William) Burks of Grand Island and Lori (Mrs. Robert) Livingston of Grand Island; 19 grandchildren; 16-great grandchildren; two brothers, Isaias "Chino" and Pete, both of Grand Island; three sisters, Mary Ramirez of Cheyenne, WY., Emily Valdez of Grand Island and Patty Galvan of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Consuelo in 1993; a daughter, Rita Sanchez; two grandsons, Frank Richard Sanchez III and Jared Lee Majerus; and one granddaughter, Lindsay Ann Majerus.

Margaret Ewing
AURORA -- Margaret Ewing, 96, of Aurora died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, in an Omaha care home.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Higby Mortuary in Aurora, with the Rev. Peggy Michael-Rush officiating. Burial will be in the Rosehill cemetery in Albion.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
Harold Mailander
Harold E. "Smokey" Mailander, 69, of Grand Island, formerly of Hastings, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church at Hastings. The Rev. James Meysenberg will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview cemetery with military rites at graveside.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Brand-Wilson Mortuary in Hastings.
A memorial will be established.
Mr. Mailander was born on Feb. 25, 1929, at Spalding to Emil and Rose (Glaser) Mailander.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1951 to 1953.
He marred Donna Bishop on Nov. 7, 1953. He was a foreman at Westland Homes from 1960 to 1975. He was a monument representative after 1975.
He married
Mellie Robbins on Sept. 2, 1988.
He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings and St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. He was an honorary lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Mellie; three daughters, Michaela "Micki" Buscher and Debra, both of Hastings, and Jeri of Dallas; one son, Mike Mailander of Hastings; three stepsons, Rich Robbins of Eugene, Ore., and Randy and Ron Robbins, both of Grand Island; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rosemary Seaman of Spalding and Carol Naughtin of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna; one brother; and one infant sister.
Mabel Strohbehn
Mabel M. Strohbehn, 95, of Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at the center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Kleine Funeral Home. The Rev. Lonnie Logan will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Among survivors is Gary Frahm of Grand Island, a nephew who provided special care.
Daniel Traxler
Daniel Anthony Traxler, 24, of Grand Island, formerly of Aurora, died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, from injuries suffered in an auto accident near Newcastle.
Services will be at 11 am. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora. The Rev. John Keefe will officiate.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mr. Traxler was born on March 25, 1974, at Glasgow, Mont., to Patricia (Grabowski) Traxler.
He graduated from Aurora High School in 1992. He worked in sales and lived in several states. He moved to Grand Island in 1996 and worked for Diamond Plastics. He began operating heavy equipment for a highway construction company in northeast Nebraska in 1998.
In high school, he was active in TADA, an anti-drug campaign. He enjoyed painting and drawing and was chosen to design the first Aurora courthouse Christmas ornament, which is an ongoing series. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and mudding with his jeep.
Survivors include his mother and two brothers, David and Patrick, all of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his father, David; and grandparents, Tony and Marie Grabowski.
Alfred Rutten
CEDAR RAPIDS -- Alfred A. Rutten, 80, of Cedar Rapids died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Ralph Steffensmeier will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with military rites conducted by Dan Cox American Legion Post 44
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., with a 3 p.m. rosary, Wednesday at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will continue at the church after 6:30 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
